Simply as good as it gets. Everything was fresh and seasoned perfectly. Wife had the chicken swarma and loved it. I had the chicken ghallaba and it was excellent (huge portions). The grilled vegies were tasty and cooked perfectly. The fresh naan bread is the best in southeast michigan. Staff was attentive and the place was clean and attractive. Not fresh food! I went to Taboon Linden Rd and ordered chicken shawarma plate. When the waitress brought the order to the table, the chicken shawarma was cold and taste like overnight. This particular location is terrible because I went there three times and wasn't satisfying. read more

Sadly, Taboon is slipping in quality of food, atmosphere, and service. It seems to be run by the waitresses now, who are all calling to each other from across the room as if there are no customers. They almost make it seem as if we are an inconvenience to their conversations. Saturday at lunch, one waitress was tossing the bread into the oven, while also flipping her hair back with her hands. not appetizing to see that. After paying and leaving, we drove around the back to see an overflowing dumpster and a really filthy "break" area (I guess) that made me wonder what the kitchen looked like. I love Taboon! Of all of the Mid Eastern places in Flint, and there are several, this is my favorite. I've never had a bad meal here. I usually get the Shish Tawook sandwich, which I love. The only thing is, I did get it once where the chicken was slightly undercooked, so I usually ask for it well done. My husband loves the Falafel sandwich... but the best thing, in my opinion, is their bread! We always get a monkey dish of hummus, and the garlic dip that they serve every table, and we're happy!! read more

Well first of all, this restaurant is not located right outside of metro Detroit as Dee T. stated. It's in Flint, MI, which is about an hour away from Detroit. And it wasn't a Ram's Horn, but rather a Ponderosa before it was Taboon's. I love going to this restaurant. The hummus is amazing. But what I really go there for is to smoke hookah. It's not expensive and they have some amazing flavors like mint and lemon. The atmosphere is comfortable as well and the waitstaff is very friendly. read more

Just tried the new restaurant in Saginaw, I think they are related, but I am not sure. I was not sure what I was in for, and I did not know what to order, so the wife and I got one of the combo plates for two. As far as I am concerned, you cannot go wrong. Food was great, service was excellent. I agree with Paula M. I cannot speak to all of her comments, but the Fatoosh salad, humus, garlic dip and bread are all beyond anything you could ask for. Well, I have been to Taboon 3 or 4 times. Each time a little less satisfied. We we went yesterday for my b-day dinner, thinking I would like something different. Sub-PAR-Place needs a good cleaning. Dirty menus, dirty bathrooms. They serve fresh juice-but out of apples, mango, papaya. And out of cream for coffee. I dont get it. Food was over priced for the quality. My fatush salad was way over dressed, with burnt deep fried pita chips. We ordered the family style tray which was dry and over cooked. The rice was best thing. Even the water tasted funny. They added 20% gratutity to the bill for a party of 6, which I felt was rude. Gratuity is not a line item on the check it is based on the level of service, not a given, Will not go back again. read more

Ive been here before, many times and never really had any issues. I don't know if the place is going down or maybe they just put all the crappy employees on Wednesday nights. When we got there the host meet us and she was very nice and seemed to at least kind of know what she was doing but our waiter was awful! He seemed to know nothing at all. Almost seemed like he needed a trainer next to him to keep him going. To start my grandma asked if they had cocktails and he said NO, I pointed at the bar and said yes you do! He was like "well ya but the bartender went home soooooooooooo" we managed to put a drink order in but he had literally no idea what a Bacardi and coke was or moscato. So I had to get up show him. Mind you I look very young and just turned twenty one, but I didn't get ID till much farther on. This was the biggest NO No I've ever seen. To top it off he couldnt seem to understand my Id ( since it was vertical and had a paper attached) but it turns out he wasn't even supposed to touch liquor the host had to come over assist and yell at him. We then proceeded to order food, I asked if I could get the veggie cabbage rolls and again he was like "ummmmmmmmmmmm if we don't have any is lamb ok" obviously not someone who eats meat isn't going to order veggie cabbage rolls because they are probably plain so obviously I was vegetarian so I said no and he just didn't know what to do, I told him if they didn't have any he would need to come back and tell me not make me order 2 dishes (just in case) then my grandma ordered grape leaves and he said they were out, mind you we didn't even specify what kind. How in the HELL is a middle eastern place out of one of its hottest commodities. As with the drinks and the food, if your going to offer it at 2 o'clock then you need to offer it at 8( when we were in) I work at a movie theater bar and no matter how slow we are your ass is stuck there because everyone should have the option if it's on the menu ( this isn't McDonald's you can't just say the machines down) get your staff trained(especially serving drinks don't be stupid)and get your food prep in order. I have been to Taboons (the Flint location, near the mall) a total of five times... Out of the five times I have gone, twice I waited for nearly an hour and was not seated. A couple of years later, I went again- (you know, third time is the charm) was seated and waited 30 minutes before even getting a drink order, after which I left. About a month ago- again, I re-attempted (after being convinced by friends who happen to enjoy this restaurant) and was pleasantly surprised to have decent service and to actually have been seated in a fairly prompt manner. I thought perhaps... management had improved. A couple of evenings ago, some friends, my husband and me went back. We were seated, and served in an excellent and prompt fashion- all was well. However, when my husband paid for dinner- we waited half an hour and did not get his credit card back. Tired of waiting, my husband asked our server where his card was so that we could leave, the waitress gave a flurry of excuses and said they could not locate the card and were trying to look for it. We waited for another 20 minutes before my husband became very flustered and asked to speak with the manager. The response from the ladies at the cash register was that she was "Not there." So, not only did the wait-staff manage to lose my husband's credit card, there was no management or supervision available to speak with. When I asked for the manager's phone number, they gave me Taboon's number and told me to call the manager in the morning. The wait staff simply continued to blame the young lady running the cash register and said that she was not properly trained and was poor at her job. This, in my opinion was a horrible excuse- how poorly managed can a restaurant be?! After having sat in wait for over an hour over the whole mess, we left and had my husband's card deactivated since there was obviously no other resolution to be offered. When my husband called the manager, she told him she had not been informed of the situation- but found his card lying on the counter when she got in- and every time she attempted to run the card it said it was denied. Which begs the question, if they couldn't find the card while we were there- where was it? Did someone attempt to steal it? How miraculous it was that it magically reappeared when the manager shows up the next morning... I will NEVER return to this restaurant. If you want fantastic middle-eastern food in Flint, where they WON'T lose your credit card and you actually WILL get seated with fantastic service DO NOT go to Taboons!!! What a NIGHTMARE! read more

This is an excellent Middle-Eastern restaurant. I had been afraid to give it a try, as some of my friends did not recommend it -- however, their reviews were entirely unfounded. The fresh baked pitas are excellent, especially when paired with the fresh hummus. The garlic sauce is very strong and their shawarma is wonderful. The shawarma sandwich is also excellent, and very much recommended, with the traditional pickle bringing out the excellent flavor of the meats. read more

I had high hopes for Taboon, but I was left disappointed. I ordered a half order of hommos and a falafel sandwich to go, which took about 25 minutes even though there were only two tables of people in the restaurant who already had their food. Maybe that's how long it normally takes there, but I was surprised at how long the wait was for such a small, simple order. The pita and hommos appetizer was very good and the falafel balls were good inside the falafel sandwich, but there wasn't any lettuce, two small pieces of tomato and a LOT of pickles. I know pickles are optional in a falafel sandwich, I was just caught off-guard by the tomato/lettuce/onion to pickle ratio. With more lettuce, tomato, onion and tahini sauce, and no pickles, I think this would be an excellent falafel sandwich. Next time I will call well in advance and make some minor alterations to see if Taboon will be my go-to falafel destination. read more

Went here a few weeks ago, service was horrific. Waitress had no idea what she was doing, when asked simple questions like what kind of wine they had she asked my husband to 'list off different kinds and if they had it she would tell me'. Anytime I asked a question she didn't know (which was almost every question) her response was that 'she hadn't worked there in so long she didn't know'. I'm not sure if the place was in desperation for a server that night but this woman should never be allowed to work there, ever again. She forgot my husbands soup, forgot my tabbouleh, took about 20 minutes to get our drinks, the list goes on. When my meal came out which was supposed to be beef shawarma (and definitely was not) I explained to the food runner (not our waitress) that it looked like either chicken or lamb but definitely not beef. She apologized and took it back to the kitchen, our lovely waitress then came out of hiding and said the beef was overcooked and she HAD to send it back. Um no, first of all it wasn't beef, at all. Second of all I was the one that sent it back, you were nowhere to be found. Once my meal did finally come out, 15 minutes later it was not tasty, hardly any flavor and tasted like microwaved steak. We have been here several times in the past and never ever had an experience like this. absolutely terrible. the severs were rude and acted like they were too good to be here. we were given bread 10 minutes after asking for it and were given no plates or silverware. we had to take plates that were left on a close by table. nobody was sure what they actually served. drinks went unfilled for 15 minutes at least and the table was visited maybe 4 times in almost 2 hours. once we were ready to leave we realized we hadn't even been given the bill ever after our waiters saw that we were clearly finished. I have to say that coming from Houston and experiencing some of the best cuisine I have had in my life aside from Europe, this place did a incredible job with the Greek salad. It was better than my experience in Greek town and the lamb chops were very good and I typically shy away ftom lamb. The reason for 3 stars was the chicken Shwarma. Usually great food and service. Today was a let down. The bread was raw, they were out of most ingredients for smoothies and service was extremely poor and slow. My entree was awful.... I got the vegetarian platter (for 2 because they don't make a single one!) which for $26 is a bit steep, but i get all my veggie faves. I asked for a booth, they put me up front where it was very cold on this windy winter day. So I made sure to get a coffee . Here is what was great- the cabbage rolls. OMG. In the past they've been mediocre but they've improved so much . The bread hot from the taboon has been a long loved staple of this place! The grape leaves were prety standard along with the hummus, tabouleh, & fatoush, i was not happy with the garlic dip today, not sure if it was too fresh or too warm (it's a delicate balance to get it just right so not a big deal). Here is what I was let down by- the majadra (an absolute fave usually) it was not cooked right, it tasted wrong, it had a ton of bulgar in it and was missing the yummy onions and yogurt that usually accompany it. Top choice for Lebanese in the flint area due to the total package - freshly baked hearth oven bread, pretty solid fattoush and tabbouleh, and perhaps the best hummus outside of the old country. The only thing that could make it better would be that they use whole-wheat flour for their bread, but that's just nitpicking. Seems like bad service is a common theme at this particular location. The first time visiting this location was awesome (we came here because of the Groupon), our waitress was prompt and attentive, offering perfect recommendations. Sadly when we returned two days later on Sunday, 11/22/2015 we had the worst service we've received at any restaurant in years! Linda was our waitress and before she even approached our table she was yelling across the dining area about killing her manager?? I'm sure this was suppose to be a joke but it was so unprofessional. Next she complained about having to work with "dumb and dumber" being two other waitresses. After taking a seat at our table, she proceeded to talk about how another coworker was annoying because she couldn't understand English and spoke broken English. This definitely rubbed me the wrong way because my husband (who was sitting right there!!!) struggles with English because it is his third language. He surely understood what she was saying then BUT he loved the food so much from our first visit he was willing to overlook this. Too bad we didn't walk away at that moment because our food was awful that day as well. To top it all off Linda never did follow-up with me about the questions I had regarding the falafel plate or the smoothie I wanted. Oh well, by the end of it all I didn't want anything else anyway. If you are willing to risk poor, unprofessional service then feel free to dine here but me and my money will go somewhere else. Spoiled chicken, too salty beef, and totally cold to the touch! 2 of the 3 meals were returned untouched. So while one person ate dinner, the other 2 sat. Did we want something else? Not! How about some grilled veggies to munch on till he is done? Businesses have one chance to make a repeat customer, and charging them for the compliments that come with the meal is not going to make that happen. It is not the good appetizers that bring a person into a place, it is great food; if the food is returned, do not add insult to injury to the dining experience by charging them for the soup and salad, they could have gotten at home. read more

Ate here a couple of years ago, and it was better. The food, I had fried kibbe, lentil soup, and lamb shwarma, was very bland. The kibbe tasted like it was previously frozen, the shwarma was tough, and full of gristle, and the soup, was also bland. The only saving grace to this meal was the bread and garlic butter. This is a favorite for me and my man when we need a special night out. Its always pretty quiet which is great when you want a nice relaxing meal. Each dinner was enough to feed two people, so totally worth the price! Tonight the blender was broken (should be working tomorrow) so we couldn't try any blended drinks, but our waitress was more then helpful in choosing something else. The carrot apple juice was fresh squeezed and delicious. Bonus! As the last customers of the night they sent us home with a bag full of bread and a container of garlic spread! I very rarely write reviews, but after my first visit at Taboon today for lunch, I feel I need to give them the credit they deserve. I had a business related reason to be in Flint and am very picky about where I eat nearly always choosing local and organic restaurants. Flint has nothing to offer in this category so I looked at reviews for Middle Eastern food and found Taboon. I was impressed with the reviews and having eaten at many Mid Eastern restaurants over the years, I suspected I would like it but nothing more. Boy was I shocked. This is hands down the best Middle Eastern food I've had. Extremely fresh, juicy, well balanced and perfectly spiced. I was torn between two sandwiches or a sandwich and soup. I found the soup and sandwich combo on the menu and decided to get the Tawook and Tabbouleh sandwich plus Hommus and the crushed lentil soup. The sandwich was big and I would have been hurting if I had eaten two - I can eat, but that would be pushing it. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked, slightly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and tasted like real chicken... wonder if they get it from a local farm. The Hommus had great flavor as well as did the Tabbouleh which was extremely fresh. The soup was equally as good with just the right amount of spice and the freshly cooked bread with side of garlic complimented the soup just right. As far as wait: I walked in around 12:30pm on a Friday. The place was fairly busy but not crowded. I ordered carryout and was told it would take about 15 minutes. An honest 17-18 minutes later, my food came out so no complaints there. If you're in the area and like Middle Eastern food, make sure you visit Taboon's!
