When in Flint eat Lebanese food. That was my goal for our weekend trip. Being half Lebanese and there not being many Leb restaurants in Toronto I chose Taboon as a place to go and I'm glad I did. My husband ordered the baked kibbee with laban and fatoush salad. I had the lamb shish kebab, taboulli, and rice. The salads arrived, big and fresh, they looked and tasted great. Fresh, hot pita and the best garlic dip that I could have eaten all day. The entrees were really good, my husband described the kibbee as fluffier than mine. I really liked it, no pine nuts but that's understandable considering the price of those things. My lamb was medium rare just as I ordered, the rice fresh and light, buttery with vermicelli. Very flavorful food, large portions and that homey Lebanese taste that is hard to achieve unless it's made with love and care, which it was. Service was relaxed and very good. My husband and I went to Taboon recently and we definitely will NEVER return. The food was awful. My husband got chicken shawarma and it was gross; it had large chunks of chicken skin and was greasy. The ladies bathroom smelled like a porta- potty. When Taboon was on Hill Road many years ago, it was a favorite place to eat, but it has really gone down hill. read more

Scenario: You're in Flint and you're a vegetarian. Pickings are slimmmmmm! SO being a lover of international cuisine, I tried Taboon after visiting The Valley and I've been pressed ever since! I'm very picky about falafel, but of their's I approve. Its not too dry and is perfectly spiced. Grilled vegetables are healthy and are never overcooked... add the almond rice and I'm easily satisfied. I usually order a lentil soup for my toddler and she LOVES it too! The warm bread is so delicious and they make sure you get plenty of it! Some nights there is live entertainment and if you have children you can make a good cultural experience out of it. read more

First off, I would give them 5 if they were consistent. Secondly, their bread and garlic spread is always great and fresh, but when it comes to their food, almost every time I come here they bring it out cold and sometimes undercooked; I've had to send food back 4 times. I don't know if they expect Americans not to know how the food is supposed to be, but they really need to fix that. I LOVE this restaurant!! The home made pita bread is amazing as is the garlic dip! The Fatoosh salad is also wonderful! So yummy!!

Not that impressed! The waitstaff at the front were super rude and acted like I was taking up their time. Tried to use my Groupon but was told that it could not be used for my order. I usually come here for dinner. I have never been dissapointed. The food is delicious! The sharwammas, soups, fatoosh salad, hummus, garlic dip, stuffed grape leaves and the bread are all yummy. They bake the breads fresh in the oven right in front of you to see. The service is always great too. Usually, the waitresses provide us with great service. The last time I went, we noticed a little fruit fly land on our hummus. We told our waitress and she promptly removed the hummus and brought us a fresh serving. I would give 5 stars if cleanliness didn't catch my attention here. Sometimes they fail to clean out the area between the booths and windows. Nothing drastic, just napkins or wrappers. It is annoying to eat a meal with garbage lying around. I still enjoy this place though. I am always craving the food here. read more

Was hesitant to write this review but after back -to-back horrible experiences, here goes. ZERO stars. 7.20.12. Two top. 4:30pm. I wanted majedera and Taboon's is superb so off we went. Husband ordered Fattoush Salad with feta. Guess what I ordered...? Bread came cold and hard as rock. Clearly, it had been made some time prior to our arrival and I was stunned that the waitress would attempt to serve it to us. We sent it back and asked for fresh bread from the brick oven. She apologized. She came back a few minutes later and told my husband they were out of feta. He said fine, go with no feta on the salad. She came back a few minutes later and said they were our of majedera. I looked at her strangely, because it is a simple dish made of lentils, course bulgur (their variation), olive oil, spices, and fried onion on top. How could they be out of these ingredients on a Friday evening? I ordered a small tabbouleh and fried Kibbeh balls. The bread arrived; it was wonderful. Salads arrived with the pita bread on my husband's burned to a crisp. I helped him pick out the burnt remains. When the waitress arrived with the Kibbeh she clearly saw the stockpile and suggested replacing the salad. My husband declined and just wanted the meal over with. The Kibbeh balls arrived hot and inedible. The exterior was course and grainy due to lack of soaking the course bulgur and too little ground lamb to help moisten the bulgur and hold it together. I took a nibble, because it even looked grainy, and shoved the rest aside. I explained to the waitress that the Kibbeh was inedible and why. She apologized, said they had new cooks, would relay my comments, and take the expense off our bill. In the mean time, I overheard another waitress say to a customer that they were out of what he ordered. I helped finish my husband's salad and filled up on bread and pondered the problems: running out of ingredients (particularly on a Friday night!) made me wonder if they had not paid their bills and consequently did not have product delivered. Cold bread, lessening of ingredients (ie ground lamb), made me question their reason for cutting costs. Taboon also recently opened at another location in Grand Blanc and might be stretched too thin. 8.17.12. Four top. 6:30. Bread fine. I ordered majedera. The waiter said he wasn't certain if they had it and said he'd find out. When he came back to take our orders the second time, I ordered ...majedera. He forgot to see if they had it, left again and came back. They had it !!! Life is good. Salad fine. Waiter forget a cup of soup that came with one dinner and then said he could not reduce the dinner price. After some back and forth fussing, he took $1 off the meal. My salad was fine. Majedera arrived. It was a cup of overcooked, cold, mushy lentils on a bed of lettuce. No caramelized onion, no bulgur, no firm glossy lentils sauteed in olive oil. :( I was crushed. It looked bizarre, tasted even worse. (Yes, I tasted and so did my husband.) We shoved it aside but weren't about to complain to the waiter and get into another fuss. A restaurant we faithfully supported for years when they were in their first Grand Blanc location is no more. Inedible food and lousy service. Bummer. I'll go back to cooking our own Mideastern food from the cook book inherited from my Palestinian mother-in-law. read more

The puffy pitas are the main reason we visited this place. We were told but a friend a must try because they are warmed up in a stone oven. This is true and the bread was very hot and tasty. We ordered some hummus with lamb and it too was very good. The garlicky spread was excellent. The shawarma plate was just okay. Lots of rice and chicken, plenty to take home. Another in our party orders the chicken shawarma sandwich which looked much more appetizing to me and probably would. Have rather had. The bathrooms could use a good cleaning and updating in this place. Lots of signs of wear and tear. The wait staff was very polite and friendly, but service was slow...in fact part of our order did not show up with the rest so we had to find the server after about 10 min to ask where it was. May have been an understaffed day as it seemed only two waiting lunch service tables was not enough. In summary the food was good and warrants another try in the future. read more

it's hard to find good ethnic food in flint, which is why i'm giving taboon a five. aside from it's location it's more realistically a four. the first time we visited taboon was while we were picking up our puppy west of flint. we stopped in for some wraps. we got falafel, shwarma and a grape leaf wrap. the grape leaf wrap was actually really good, though i don't get those often. the shwarma was pretty standard, my boyfriend, who ate it, said that he doesn't really eat shwarma but like it. The falafel was a little small, but really cheap and totally adequate. the second time we went in we got a veggie platter. we were also very drunk and they were exceptionally nice despite this. the garlic dip is awesome! read more

Normally I would give this restaurant a much better rating but a recent visit has me questioning if I will come back. I came here for a meal with family recently, as I have many times. The servers were not as friendly as I remember them normally being. The restaurant seemed not very well cleaned either. The bread was very good as usual, but the hommous seemed watered down. I ordered the lamb kebabs, cooked medium well. The lamb was almost raw on the inside, and given that I am pregnant that is a big issue. I sent it back to be cooked more, and when it was brought back some of it was burnt and some of it was still raw. Very unsatisfied. The booth I was sitting in also had an unpleasant odor, while I was sitting there I kept smelling it which is obviously not something you want when you are eating. To top it off, when I went to use the bathroom, it smelled like raw sewage. The drain in the floor was full of something, and the smell was bad enough to induce gagging. Also there were dirty cleaning implements on the floor behind the toilet, as well as a plunger with obvious fecal material on it. If the bathrooms are that dirty, I don't even want to know what the kitchen looks like! Like I said, I've eaten here many times in the past and it was always satisfactory. Work lunch here recently was solid. App trio with hummous, baba ganoush, taboulli, garlic sauce, and pickle/raddish plate was quite amazing. I enjoyed a shish tawook sandwich and lentil soup. The other 2 options nearby in Flint may have just lost, although I still enjoy the one in the old Moy Kong spot as a place to sit down at for lunch. I am not surprised by some other awful reviews here....all family owned places have bad periods in operation. Last week was my first time to eat here and I can only say it was quite incredible. I typically enjoy the food here a great deal, but the service during my last encounter with Taboon was simply unacceptable. I had ordered multiple entrees and an appetizer through the Flint Food Express service, and after the delivery driver left we noted that all of the sides and the appetizer were missing from the order. The FSFX app has no contact method to report issues, so I called the restaurant to inquire. They hung up on me. I called back and they would not confirm if the missing bag had left the restaurant, nor did they provide a method to contact the FSFX service to inquire with their services. The staff was rude and completely unhelpful. I will avoid them in future. read more

having recently moved from the middle east to the US. Taboon is nowhere close to authentic middle eastern food. BUT I still enjoyed the food, we had the a mixed beef and chicken shawerma platter, a mezza combo and taboon grill combo. the portions are definitely amercanized, 1 platter is enough for 2 in my opinion. I do have some complaints, the food could use more seasoning, the garlic dip is toooooo garlic-y, my mom makes better falafel at home. but overall, i'm coming regularly to this place to satisfy my homesick cravings! 1 last comment, the place suffers from an identity crisis, there's some arabic music playing near the bar which I enjoyed but what's with the guy playing the guitar for live entertainment?! and I literally did not see any middle eastern person there! Really good food and service. Delicious oven fresh bread and divine garlic butter. The hummus and lentil soup were the highlights of my night. My partner had the lamb chops and thought they were cooked well, small portion, but good. The cocktails were pretty lackluster, but that's ok, food made up for it. A lot of people talk about decor, it's fine, it's nice. I've been into a lot of middle eastern restaurants that are far worse than this place, trust me. This was a pleasant surprise - we pulled off the highway for lunch between Grand Rapids and Toronto, and were expecting to have to get fast food. Instead we got good Middle Eastern food, hot fresh pita, and really sharp garlic sauce. My colleague and I both got lunch specials - I had the Wednesday "Chicken with Potatoes" with a house salad, and he got the "One Shish Kabob" with soup. The kabob was a beef kabob. He said it was good; not much else to report. The chicken was not what I was expecting, but it was good - it was a bowl of cubed chicken breast and potatoes in a tomato sauce, accompanied by rice with slivered almonds. I was surprised because the description was "baked" and what showed up was "stewed", but it was tasty. Overall the menu is extremely varied; if I lived nearby I would have fun working through it. So the food is good, there is plenty of it, and the extremely fresh bread is a huge plus. For lunch, they could have been a buck cheaper, but that's a pretty minor quibble. Good road food for us, solid Middle Eastern for the people of Flint. A win-win. read more
