I haven't been here in a couple years and they still serve great food! They have a separate full bar with a lively clientele on an early Friday night. The place is casual and a fav with the locals. I had a New York Steak which was cooked perfectly! I love the open flame kitchen area where you can watch them cook! The dinner includes a one trip salad bar with a baked potato and garlic bread. I'm so glad I was able to sneak in for an early dinner on a Saturday, it's usually absolutely packed and it sure got busy as I sat! You get choices for your sides and I will always always always say, pick the salad bar and baked potato, you will not regret it! Their baked potato is definitely one of my favorites I've ever had in a restaurant and that's saying something! Here is my tip for when you get the baked potato, go to the salad bar, throw some cheese, bacon bits or green onions on it if you enjoy those on a potato, that's what i did in the photo above. They also bring out a grilled garlic bread that's irresistible, my diet can start Monday for this bread! I also absolutely love their steaks, they cook them on this beautiful open fire grill in the middle of the dining area that is incredibly charming. I'm not sure why but I just think it makes it taste better! I chose a medium size New York cooked medium rare and it was cooked to perfection and came out HOT unlike some places where your meat sits under a heat lamp... My compliments to the chef on the grill, at one point she was juggling at least 10 other steaks and still made mine perfectly! Our server Leslie and everyone else who checked in was friendly and efficient even though they were definitely busy juggling plenty of large parties and birthdays. We felt well taken care of even if we weren't the big table which felt nice. Overall we will absolutely be back the next time we visit PV because the food and service were both fantastic! read more

Stopped by today for lunch. Had the french dip and not on the menu, Onion rings. The bar tender went back to the kitchen and spoke to the cook and they used the bater for the fish and chips. I personally love this place. Unpretentious, nostalgic, divey vibe with good food! The fried shrimp and New York steak were both impressively good. The salad bar is also a throwback, and hit a craving I didn't know I had (bacon bits, beets, beans, ranch... yes please!). I'll only agree with the previous reviewer that the cocktail sauce should be freshly poured for each order. And bring your own wine to have corked if you you're a wine person. Steaks are seasoned deliciously and cooked on the conservative side, so if you're really fussy about too much pink, go medium. We were here for my birthday earlier this month and headed back Saturday for my son's birthday. It's my new favorite steakhouse in the area. Keep up the good work, guys! read more

Did not know they were open for lunch. Went in with a group of 7. Sat in the bar area as the dining room is not open during lunch hours. Everyone loved their meal. Ambiance could have been better since we were in the bar area. Might consider opening just a portion of the dining room for lunch away from the noisy bar area. read more

Be sure to make reservations for this little gem! We love local hangouts, and this fits the bill. Expect to appear knowledgeable about when and where to enter. Thankfully, we were greeted at the bar (and duly reprimanded for not having a reservation). Pretty neat system, though. Each reservation has a pre-assigned table, and we didn't see anyone else come in after everyone arrived. Amazingly diverse specials, and we stumbled across Wednesday night beef ribs, and boy, were we glad to find those! Savory-sweet, sticky deliciousness, just like beef ribs should be. Abandon all etiquette and dive into those! We were told to arrive early on Sundays for prime rib... reservation already made! Our original choice was rib eye, of course, so we got one of each order, ribs and steak, and shared them. Again, steak exactly as it should be: flavorful, tender, and plentiful. Heavenly. Service is spotty because of how busy it is, but after our food arrived, we didn't care. Busy eating! We did manage to get drinks from the bar, though. Don't skip dessert. We had the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, which did not disappoint, and we're cheesecake afficionados, so our approval is well won. read more

My partner and I received a gift certificate from my daughter. This being our first time there, we were excited to try it out. What a horrible experience. First thing, it took the waitress 15 minutes to come over to take our order (no they were not busy). The whole time she was chatting up a storm with some guy, then went to another table to chat with them. My partner ordered the special ordering it medium rare, I ordered the prawns & steak...medium. When we finally got our food, his steak was cooked just right, my steak was cooked medium rare not medium, the prawns were so greasy and the cocktail sauce was so thick I had to put it on the prawns with a fork. The waitress did not come back and check on us until "after" we finished. She did offer to have the cook cook my steak more. By then we were done. Did not apologize for the steak not being cooked liked I ordered it. I was told by a friend that has gone there for years, that the food had gone down hill over the past few months. I believe it. I have been going to this place as a kid since the mid sixties. It was a great place with quality meat and you could grill your own steak on their grill. Very nice element an good rustic atmosphere. Unfortunately for me and my friends that isn't the case anymore. We went last week and we ordered medium rare $29.00 rib eye steaks with all the trimming. It literally took an hour to get our food. It was not a busy evening either. When we got our food the steaks were cooked medium well,, they were luke warm, AND I doubt they were even rib eye steaks! Worst piece of meat I have ever eaten. I hate to waste food but it was absolutely terrible. My rice pilaf wasn't even all the way done. We complained, and they comped the meal. We did tip the waitress but I will NEVER go back to The Tack Room under that manage! Very disappointing indeed! read more

However the rest of our party had wonderful dinners....two incredible large pork chops, shrimp, calamari steak, 2 huge hamburgers, chicken, etc. I will go there again but know better than to order steak! I ordered the calamari strips and shrimp. Approx $22. When it came there were 3 shrimp and 3 calamari It was so heavily breaded. I took the breading off and the fish pieces were cold and small. It was pretty gross. The cold draft was terrible. I actually got up and stood next to the bbq and had a nice chat with the chef. Very nice lady. I should have had a steak. Here is my honest review of the famous Tack Room. This place has been around for many years and it is all about the locals. I really mean it.... Locals! This is a good thing and a bad thing. There are two areas to consider here, one the bar, the other the restaurant. Let me break it down. Bar......... Old people serve the bar, only beer and wine, but they have other drinks there... just that know one knows how to make them. Get some fresh people in there and this place would really be good. Treat all people as local and equal... for now.. I give a 2 stars . Restaurant....... Each time I come to the restaurant I love watching my steak being cooked on the open fire pit in the dining room. You can stand there, talk , ask dictate how you like your meat cooked. This is great to me, to have that much control in your food and not be at home. I love this concept. I really enjoy this place but have had some issues on the bar side.... Ummmm NO my Yelp friends you need to use my secret yelp mobile personal phone to talk about that. But.....This place is not perfect. I do like it. I want to make it better.. so here is what I suggest. Lets visit this place as Yelpers.. also make sure that the owners know we are looking .... At 8:15pm I called to verify Tack Room was open. I called after we had been to four establishments that had hours posted as open but were closed for various reasons. They said they were open and I was literally in the parking lot right next to their parking lot. I sent my girls in for a menu, we were there at 8:30 ready to order at 8:35 RIGHT AFTER ONE OF THEIR WAITRESSES OUTSIDE HAVING A SMOKE BREAK TOLD ME THEY HAD BABY BACK RIBS AS A SPECIAL. Trying to order the person who answered said the grill was closed. I said, what?! I'm literally outside right now and your employee JUST told me about your ribs. He said you can talk to the cook. In distinct chatter through the phone. A woman gets on the phone, the woman that I had just seen outside, "Sorry the grill is closed" long story short I explained in a very disappointed, frustrated voice that I had just been to four establishments that had closed early and I have two girls I'm trying to few. All we wanted were three very easy plain cheeseburgers, meat, cheese and bun. That's it. I was so shocked that a small town joint would turn down a $50 ticket I expressed my disappointment and was told I could go to Taco Bell down the street. To which I replied, "Did you really recommend going to Taco Bell in lieu of eating at your restaurant?" Well if that's the backup for this place I'm glad we didn't get to fulfill our order.
