I / we have been eating breakfast & lunch on a weekly basis including a Bible study / fellowship luncheon with a group of men every Wednesday at 11:00 am for the past several years. Here are my / our experiences and observations: 1. After trying just about everything on the breakfast/lunch menu, I have yet to had a bad meal. The food is always done just right and the flavors excellent. 2. The service is amazing; when your not looking the coffee mug, water or cold beverage glass is always kept full. Often the waitress will come around to check if all is okay. The waitresses are very well dressed and groomed with personalities to match. 3. The restaurant is very clean with a touch of home environment. What are my favorite meals: Breakfast: Their "Waffle (plain or Belgian), eggs (cooked to your liking), bacon or sausage (patties or links) combo" is awesome. Lunch: They are known for their burgers, fry's and onion rings - the best. The same can be said for their Patty Melt and French Dip sandwiches. Awe heck, all the sandwiches are GREAT! They offer a couple of various flavors of soups daily, all very good, especially their Lobster Bisque when available! YOU KNOW A PLACE HAS TO BE GOOD BY CHECKING OUT THEIR PARKING LOT. Good meal, though I ordered two of the same meal to go, and they prepared one. I should have picked up the problem, when I got the bill, but I was on cruise control, at that point, and there were two boxes in the bag, so I figured everything was copacetic. I was disappointed, when I opened the first, because I'd wanted pancakes with the meal, and there weren't any. Humpty Dumpty remains my favorite takeaway but this time I eschewed the drive-in and had the whole diner experience. I had some time to fill while my windshield was being replaced nearby and I was able to have lunch at a leisurely pace without feeling rushed. The menu is fairly traditional, but much more extensive inside. The prices are excellent for the quality and portions. I had fish & chips, which was served with salad and fries and a roll and butter--3 pieces of fish and all this for, like, $16.95! Never have I ever seen a drive through diner! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and appreciated the convenience of the drive through. I ordered the french toast meal, which was delectable. The french toast was eggy and warm and sweet. I appreciated the accompaniments, like "maple" syrup, butter, ample napkins and utensils. I also appreciated the ample coffee and frapuccino options, with an array of milk alternatives available also. Service was super polite. Service is always nice and friendly. Even if there is a wait at the door it goes pretty quick. It's a place that anytime I go to Grass Valley it's where I will go before I hit the road to head home. After a long morning of driving up to Grass Valley, someone recommended this restaurant to us saying that it was the best and I think it's fair to say I did not disappoint! We were immediately seated and our orders were taken right away! It was a very homey, small town breakfast joint that was very lovely. My boyfriend ordered the Humpty's breakfast while I ordered the grilled turkey sandwich with a side of cottage cheese. They were DELICIOUS! Probably the best turkey sandwich I have ever had! My brother moved to Nevada County a few years ago so he's constantly on the lookout for places to check out. During my most recent visit, he recommended we grab breakfast at Humpty Dumpty before heading home. There was a line when we arrived but we were seated within 5 minutes. I ended up getting a bacon cheeseburger, cause why not. My burger was cooked a little over (well done), but it was exactly what I had in mind. A no frills type of cheeseburger and didn't try too hard. Simply a basic but flavorful bacon cheeseburger and the fries were hot, thick and crunchy! This time I decided to try breakfast and ordered the mini breakfast with eggs, bacon, and blueberry pancakes. The pancakes weren't my favorite, but everything else was tasty and fresh. What really stands out here is the service -- everyone is so kind and attentive, and it feels like a real local spot. Only thing I know is they renovated the property in the early 2010's. The other thing I know is they were around as a local diner for at least 60 years. They have tables and dining facilities on the 2nd floor. Food is your local diner does well. They make their own hollandaise sauce for their Eggs Benedict. Waffle and pancake batter home made. Free coffee refills and you would need to ask for water as water is brought to you on request. Service is your local diner does well. While I'm sure each server has their own area, I noticed they all work together by pitching in to their co servers area. Price point keeping up with inflation; that's all I can say. If you're in the Grass Valley area and looking for a meal, albeit breakfast, lunch or dinner, and you want a diner atmosphere, go here. Today (dec 19th) my friend and i decided to go out for bteakfast on a cold and rainy day. Humpty Dumpty is the locals favorite for a big bteakfast! It is located on Main street in Grass Valley. Today i shared the humpty dumpty special .2 eggs scrambled with 3 strips of bacon with hash browns AND 2 pancakes! Such big portions! Love the crispy bacon! My friend got the meatlovers special (technically not on the menu). Full of sausage and bacon and ham. Huge! Also got a side of biscuits and gravy to go. They are always busy but they get the order out quickly! They also have a drive thru and counter seating. If you have friends coming in for the holiday then this is a great place for groups!
