It's so unfair that the best Taco Bamba location imo happens to be the one farthest away from me. We have friends who came to visit us in the DC region, and fell in love with Taco Bamba when we brought them to the Vienna location. They would then make a point to come visit one of the locations (Springfield, Landmark, Vienna) anytime they were visiting. It was simply meant to be that they happened to relocate to Raleigh where a Taco Bamba location exists, so that now WE get to visit THEIR Bamba. Their Raleigh location specific tacos are truly amazing. The Queen Bee and Sweet Baby Jesus are delicious. It's also nice that this location has a really nice outdoor seating area. There's ample seating both indoor and outdoor, and despite it usually being busy we always manage to find a table. read more

Day after Xmas and I awake craving tacos one in my favorite dishes. Today its food as medicine I find spicy Pico and salsa really great to flush out sinus issues. The Jeffrey is something I longed to try. A spring roll filled carna asada, chorizo and al pastor meat mixture full of Mexican flavors and a hint of Chihuahua cheese make this Mex-Asian fusion a filling, tasty treat that has a Serrano Verde salsa on the side if you want more heat. Refried black beans were so creamy smooth I couldn't get enough of these beans I added it to my taco and dipped my spring roll in this yummy mixture. The chicken tinga taco had so much protein I took out half of portion for later. You can see fresh onions and cilantro garnish the top of braised chicken that is tender, juicy all tucked inside 2 corn tortillas. My husband was working nearby and he stopped in here a few times for lunch and he told me we had to try it for dinner. I was not disappointed! I downloaded the app and received a free chips and guacamole. We also ordered a side of queso, the Bamba Taco which was steak and chorizo, Alpaca chicken taco, Catfish taco and the brisket taco. Everything was excellent, the flavors worked so well together, you didn't even need to add salsa or hot sauce. There is also a salsa bar and everything I tried was delicious. These tacos are SO good that I've been wanting them since I first tried them. I came by on a whim after going to the hair salon next door and decided to try a bunch of random tacos. The outdoor tables were nice, and bug-free which was nice. Here's the breakdown of my lunch: Pollo al Carbon Decent corn tortillas, doubled Decent onion and cilantro Salty, a bit messy, seems to have a chorizo component to it which may account for the saltiness Good taco $4.50 Al Pastor Decent char, a few pieces of gristle Most of The pineapple pieces were inedible because they were from the center of the fruit. Salty as well, but overall nice spice level Average taco $4.50 Carne Asada A bit of char Salty Very very good pieces of steak, but no real flavor after the hit of salt. If there's a marinade it's super dilute or not evenly applied. Fix the marinade issue and this could be one of the best carne asada tacos in the area. Slightly above average taco overall $5.00 La Bamba, like many "upscale" taco-centric places charges for chips and salsa (like $3.25). What is that all about? Seriously, just stop. This restaurant is spacious with a lot of seating. After placing your order at one counter you pick it up at another one. I asked if I could substitute flour tortillas for one of my tacos two tacos. The clerk told me that she could but didn't tell me that there would be an additional charge of 0.50 cents to do so. I don't mind paying extra but I would appreciate being told that there are extra fees to do so. The tacos were filling & had a lot of meat. They tasted good but the Barbacoa was a little salty & the lamb birria didn't come with consommé. There is an extra charge for it. Taco Bamba was pretty good! This was my first time there and I got the 'ol dirty brisket quesadilla as well as a torta tradicional with carne asada. Both were tasty. It's a little bit pricey but on par expectations for anything in the Whole Foods shopping center. For my tastes, the brisket quesadilla was a bit too oily and needed the side of cream to cut the greasiness of the meat. Unfortunately I think the grease got to my stomach. I've got a stomach of steel so I probably will go for a different menu item next time. The torta (sandwich) was pretty good, and I have no specific feedback about it. Pretty standard, and the bread was great. Next time I'll switch up the meat for a bit more flavor. We found the outdoor music too loud, especially for the residential neighbors just over the fence, I imagine - and an odd mix: some great summery music like The Police and ELO but salted with a jolting head-banging selection of Disturbed and obscure AC/DC worthy of a mosh pit. It was hard to ignore, along with the staff SHOUTING everyone's order number every five minutes - would be nice if they could just get some number tents. The calamari was tiny, chewy, and too salty; mainland Spaniards would not approve. The relish topping it, however, was inventive and somewhat saved it. The first bag of chips we were given were stale and we had to ask for a replacement. The tacos are small but filling. We tried the catfish, which we were assured was not cornmeal but flour battered - they were mistaken. The mushroom taco was overly spicy barbecue that my spouse had trouble finishing. We did see someone enjoying a delicious looking cob of elote, and wished we'd ordered it. The salsas are the stars, and were all quite good and fresh. Loved the little outdoor bar scene. It was over $40 for two people for lunch, which we felt was a bit steep. We appreciate the investment in Ridgewood, and it looked like people were enjoying their meals. Cool place. Tasty eats. My favorites are the Baja fish taco and the lengua taco. I heard from a rude and condescending customer to the employee that the quesabirria was "surprisingly good. This week, at the urging of a buddy, I tried the Raleighto, which is the hot dog taco. It was amazing! The idea of a hot dog taco sounds blechy, but Taco Bamba nails the execution. He even gave us a sample of some carnitas. It was so good that I knew I had to order a taco with that on it. Both of my tacos were excellent. The Queen Bee was bursting with flavor and the Carnitas on my second taco was also excellent. The food tasted like it was made with only high quality, fresh ingredients and the combinations of flavors that I had were unlike other taco places I've tried. The menu can be a little overwhelming (we like options, so not a problem), but if you're indecisive, like me, it may behoove you to figure out what you'd like to order before you get there. While they do have a few paper menus, expect to view the menu located on the wall. The bartender noticed we were in struggle land and provided a couple of the paper menus. While we stuck to more of the safe Americanized options, this is a chain restaurant so don't expect super authentic tacos. Do expect a good product in a lively space with some good outdoor seating. Salsas we're solid. I liked the verde salsa the best to pair with the empanadas, queen bee taco, and nachos. I would probably prefer a different salsa to pair with something else. We loved this place for lunch today! The menu had so many options it was hard to decide. My friend enjoyed his choriqueso torta, but found it a bit messy. He loves spice and said the spice level was decent after adding sauces from the sauce bar. I chose a specialty taco--Kiss My Grits! That's right! Shrimp and grits in a corn tortilla! I'm usually more of a taco traditionalist, but this really worked for me. The shrimp and grits were so good I could have eaten them out of a bowl. My other taco, pollo al carbon, had perfectly-grilled chicken with cilantro and onions. The traditionalist in me loved it. There are plenty of seating options, but I can foresee the area feeling tight during peak hours. The outside patio is really nice when there's a breeze. The menu is really extensive. I thought it was a bit too much, but in my party of 3 people who all ordered different menu items enjoyed their food. I had the Cubana Tortas ($14) and it was tasty and flavorful.
