To separate out aspects of this review, ambiance gets a 5/5 but food gets a 1/5 stars for me. Lola's is a nice outdoorsy spot that is perfect to grab a drink and watch sports games. When the weather is nice it's a great place to hangout with friends. The crowd there can get a little loud, but it's still fun. However, please eat before you come here. The kitchen is awful. I ordered the hawaiian nachos and what I received looked like a struggle meal I would make myself in college. The chips were not warm, the cheese was not even melted, and there was barely any meat. I asked the waitress if they could melt the cheese onto the chips and she told me, "we've asked the to do that before and they always end up burning the chips" so she brought me a side of queso instead. Lola's is a popular destination Downtown. It's conveniently located on Glenwood Ave with street parking and a small attached parking lot. A friend and I stumbled in for a night cap after having dinner in Smoky Hollow. We enjoyed spicy margaritas, Rum Punch & The Painkiller. I really loved the laid back beach hut vibes here. The music was such a vibe ! The cute Abuelas cooking mahi fish tacos behind the bar really made me regret not having my dinner here. The Mahi fish smelled so fresh and delicious. Our bartender was excellent. We enjoyed the company of 2 gentlemen who visited the bar until closing. Lola's is definitely a place I plan on visiting again. read more

I've been here a few times and it's a cute little beach style bar. It does get crowded in here so I would advise to come early or you'll be standing. Our server was friendly and we ordered a few drinks. I got a painkiller as well as a pineapple jalapeño margarita. Both drinks were good and a good price. I adored my experience at Lola's. It was fairly quiet when we visited, and the wait staff was really friendly. I ordered their signature nachos dish and a frozen margarita. The margarita was probably my favorite margarita that I've had over the last couple years. It was really delicious and refreshing. On top of that the nachos were just The ingredients tasted fresh and everything came together really nicely. It was exactly what I needed on that day and left me walking away from the restaurant extremely happy. The one thing I'll mention is that it's a fairly small shop. On a nice day, there is outdoor seating, but otherwise there is pretty limited seating inside. If you are a fan of nachos like myself, I'd make sure to not miss this place... Lola's Beach Bar is such a cool and laid back spot! This was the first stop on our bad hopping journey. The bar was already pretty packed, but we were able to find some high top seats! Before we knew it there was nothing but standing room. To drink I had their rum punch which was absolute heaven! I felt like I was vacationing at the beach at a tiki bar! We didn't get to try any food while we were there, but from what I saw and smell it seems like it would be very tasty! They have a variety of nachos and burritos which are perfect for soaking up some delicious adult beverages! Despite this place being busy the server was very attentive to us and checked in frequently for our refills. Tried to order a margarita with a REAL out of state ID. I'm 22 for reference. My ID was not accepted repeatedly. They pulled up my state's DMV website to verify it but they didn't even scan it! I'm not sure what led them to think it was fake or why they couldn't verify it as it is very much my real ID. My boyfriend from North Carolina who is 21 was accepted, but they kept taking his ID back to double check because they thought since mine was "fake" his was too. Wow what a blast to the past of college days during Spring Break at Senor Frogs. This place is fun. And had a mixed age crowd so my husband & I didn't feel like the only older people. The only food we ate were the Nachos and they were good. I would like to go back to try more on the menu. The servers are super nice & since the place is small they seem to all help one another during extra busy times so we never had to wait long. What a cool spot located off of Glenwood just around the corner from Hayes Barton. There is not a lot of seating so prepare to be sharing long tables with others. The food here was delicious, the burrito was a perfect size filled with so much chicken! The drink are great and honestly quite large for the price! Not pictured is the trio of dips (queso, guacamole, and salsa) which was nice! The chips are fresh and crunchy but be aware the salsa has a good bit of kick to it! No "wait to be seated" so I just found an open spot. Took a few minutes for a s server to come out and say hello but it certainly wasn't excessive waiting. Staff is friendly. The Margarita I ordered was the Angels Rita (1800 & Citronage). I asked for it to be made without the agave nectar or any sweet and sour. I like my Margarita definitively unsweetened. This is one of their middle-of-the-road options and not The most expensive. Honestly, I didn't really care for it. The glass has way too much ice in it, it was fairly weak tasting, and they still out in some sort of sweetened additive (guessing sweet & sour) anyway which pretty much guaranteed I wouldn't like it. Had o ordered it as-is I would have just chalked it up to my own forgetfulness but having asked for no sweetener added it was disappointing. I allow for the fact that my tastes aren't the norm on that and it's not the first time someone might have thought "surely he doesn't want ANY sweetener added" but, yeah...I don't. I took several sips but just wasn't enjoying it so I cashed out and left. No negative experiences with the staff or anything to complain about service wise, simply didn't enjoy the one drink I tried. We love Lola's! I'm so happy with what they've done to this spot. I've seen a revolving door of failed businesses but this cute taco place will definitely be here for awhile. I love the food. My husband can't have gluten so we love their romaine shell option. The trio of dips is superb. Great margaritas. My only complaints would be no kids menu and the seating is a little high and uncomfortable for smaller kids. I kind of think they're not wanting kids in the establishment which I get but it's a neighborhood restaurant so kids are going to be there. It would be nice to at least have kids menu options for them, even if it's a verbal menu. read more

A trendy gem located at Five Points in Raleigh is Lola's. It's a unique, fun, lively, and beach themed restaurant concept that I really enjoyed. Imagine a tropical tiki hut restaurant serving tropical drinks, margaritas, and basic tex mex food. It's amazing how efficiently utilized the space is at this restaurant. The bar and kitchen seamlessly blend together. Majority of the seating is outdoors which is fantastic during the brisk fall days in NC. Thus far Lola's is constantly buzzing with local patrons, and I will surely join them again to enjoy the happy and vibrant atmosphere the place provides. My friend and I ordered the Trio of Chips with salsa, guac, and queso. The salsa was perfectly spiced and fresh, which is the key to good tex mex. We also devoured the chicken quesadilla. Nothing extraordinary but the salsa really jazzed it up. The owner stopped by to say hello and even brought us some fresh jalapenos after learning about our love for spicy food. Unfortunately there were no drink specials, but hopefully, they deliver some soon to keep the crowds coming back. Staff is superb and attentive. Bathroom and the restaurant space was clean. They do have a TV to catch a game. They may even be adding an awning to make the exterior usable during winter months. Overall, it's fun at the beach in Raleigh...what's not to love? read more

Awesome vibe here. Reminds me of beachside bar/shacks in Cali. Probably some of the strongest drinks you'll find in Raleigh - they don't skimp on the content or the size, plus the prices are pretty low compared to most bars inside the beltline. Other than super strong, amazingly tasty and huge drinks, the food was way better than some of the reviews here would suggest. Only got the chicken quesadilla, but it had some great crema on top and the salsa for the chips was deep and smokey. Can't say much more than that about the food - I came here to drink and soak in the vibes. I did both, so this place gets a 5. Owner/bartender is super-friendly, introducing himself and calling me by my name for the rest of my stay - makes you feel very welcome. They also just got heaters for the outside seating area and will be getting flaps in a week, so this spot is going to be great year-round. And if you smoke, the place is the perfect size to head out for a quick cig without feeling like you're going on a journey to the Swiss Alps or something. Overall, highly recommend for a night of chill drinks. Wish it were a little closer to me - I'd be a regular for sure. read more

It was very confusing to get a plate of nachos with cold shredded cheese on top. I've read that the tacos are also served cold, and that's just weird in my opinion. The drinks were good, though weak. I'm going to assume this place is popular for the bar aspect because my steak tacos which was called 'Hang Loose' weren't good, neither was the chips and salsa. What a great addition to Raleigh! Raleigh doesn't have a beach themed bar. And it really does feel like you're at the beach. Stopped here in the way home from a pop up at Moore Square. It's sit yourself, which wasn't a problem since they weren't busy. We were asked if we had been help after 5 mins of waiting. What Lola's is... a really fun, well-located surfer bar with a nice vibe. First, the food. If you're looking for good, authentic Mexican, you won't find it here. For a place which only serves Mexican, they can do better. Right now it tastes like the Mexican food you'd get if you ordered tacos at Applebee's. We tried the tacos, quesadilla and nachos (which is really all of the main courses they have). None were very flavorful, and all were a bit overpriced. Even the nachos, which 2 servers told us were amazing, were, well, not amazing. They were good, but not enough cheese (which wasn't even melted), and the chips are too thin so they break every time you pick one up with some toppings on it. Now all of the other stuff. Wait staff on our trip there was fantastic. Really outgoing and patient, and always a smile on their faces. The outdoor vibe on Glenwood is great, and works well with Third Place and Lilly's right down the road. Can be a bit hard to find a seat on crowded nights so that could turn a few folks away. Will be interesting to see what Lola's is like after the initial crowd dies down and the weather gets cooler. If they can improve the food quality a bit, they could find themselves turning into a great take-out spot for the community, rather than the bar w/ some Mexican options which it seems they currently are. read more
