    Chicken taco (w/ combination meal)
    Priscilla R.

Do not come here if you expect to eat chipotle flavored or Americanized "Mexican" food. Food: I went with the combination option of enchilada, tostada and taco. I wanted to try enough of the menu to give this place a fair review since it has low stars. The food tasted like something I've had when visiting Mexicos local spots or NYC Queens food trucks. The flavors and seasoning are authentic and ingredients are fresh. I liked my meal. Price: I thought for $13 I did not get much food. I saw a review that said to come for lunch to make it worth your buck. If I come back I'll definitely do that. Ambiance: there is authentic Mexican music playing. The servers are singing along. It gives a very homey feel to the place. It's nothing fancy but great for a quick bite when you don't feel like cooking. Service: our server was great! Friendly, fast and have great recomendaciones. The food came out very fast and she took our drink orders quickly and brought chip refills before the basket was even finished. Will be back

We've been ordering here for awhile. The chicken chimichangas are decent enough. Food was always ready fast and it was reasonably priced. But after venturing away from the chimis a few times now everything has been a miss. The fajitas come out with chicken whiter than me, same with the ACP. Someone's uncle Chad is in the back flinging these up and they forgot to teach him how to season. I ordered some Al Pastor tacos. $14.99 for whatever this is. Big chunks of flavorless, extremely dry meat. Where's the pineapple? I'll miss the convenience of this place, but I'm gonna have to tap out. Please let me know if this place turns around cause I'm actually sad for them about it.

Yum! My hubs and his fam love Mexican food. We've tried a ton of places over the years. Solid fare from La Cocina tonight. Their prices were super reasonable compared to other local places and the food options were nice and diverse without the menu being too big. I had to call with a question about the menu for my hubs family and the person who answered was super friendly! Everyone said they loved their food. Definitely will be grabbing food from here again.

I was in a rush to get some late lunch in and stumbled upon this place. I really wanted some Mexican food but looking at the reviews I was a tad bit hesitant. I figured why not try it out for myself. It took a while for me to initially get serviced. I received chips and salsa long before receiving something to drink which was a little odd. The vibe wasn't really to my liking either, majority of the servers were sitting on their phones in plain sight.. Just the beginning of everything was a little slow for my liking but once I put in my order the food came out fast. Now, being that I do eat ACP a lot this one was my least favorite. It lacked flavor, seasoning and just some overall love. The cheese sauce didn't really stand out to me at all and it wasn't enough of it up there. The rice was a bit clumped up so I wasn't really a fan of that either. But all in all for the price and the fact I was starving it wasn't bad. 5/10!

Don't listen to the bad reviews. Give it a chance, if you are in the mood for Mexican!! We did and it was a great meal!! Go for lunch, otherwise prices are a little high for the food, but it is near the airport, sooooooo you know, they need to be in the game. Great service and great food!! I am a picky eater, I won't try to hide it. I love how their menu listed my favorite, ACP!! It was just want I needed! I also recommend their frozen margaritas! 1/2 a pitcher was plenty for two, though again .. the price was steep; $18.95. Go try it out!!

Standard Mexican fare at reasonable prices. Definitely not bad for a quick meal or take out. The burrito de la Roqueta was satisfying and a very large portion. The interior of the tortilla had a nice mix of steak, queso, and tomatillo salsa topped with fresh pico de gallo. The rice was nothing special. My husbands Chile relleno and tacos were standard also, good but nothing particularly noteworthy. My margarita (large on special for $7.50) had a strong flavor of sweet and sour mix and very little tequila taste which was a bit of a disappointment for me but for the price I thought it wasn't too bad. I noticed they have some excellent beer specials going on during the week as well. Service was excellent and staff was prompt and friendly.

I don't go here often, though it's near home. I stopped by one evening on the way home from work, and had the burrito deluxe (chicken), a side of refried beans (extra), and a frozen mango margarita. The burrito deluxe was so big that I didn't need the refried beans. I ordered the medium sized margarita, and it was yummy, but bigger than expected, as well. I would've done fine with the small. They bring chips and salsa to the table early, but they're just okay. Save the calories for entree.

My favorite Mexican food in Raleigh to date. I should caveat that I'm from Southern California, so my taste in Mexican food skews more that direction than the Tex-Mex style. As a result, I have had a really hard time finding what I like (recommendations please?!). However, La Cocina seems to blend both styles fairly well. Personally, I love the little salsa cups you get so everyone can have their own, and the lunch menu is fast and reasonable. (Wouldn't recommend their plain margaritas, the mix is not good. However, the frozen ones are exactly what you would expect). Oh, and they have an outdoor patio in the shade which is dog-friendly!

While the food is on the pricey end, the portion sizes make up for it and the quality is there. On my first visit, I tried their Tres Amigos dish. It is basically a mix grill with shrimp, steak and chicken. It came with rice, beans, and veggies. The meats were super flavorful and the rice and beans were actually great! I hate it when a Mexican place just dumps overcooked rice and goopy beans and calls it a day. The veggies were very clearly frozen and came from a bag, wasn't all that excited by that. I think arroz con pollo (ACP) is one of the simplest, yet, most delicious Mexican dishes. It is chicken, cheese and rice, how can you mess that up? Mamacita does their ACP justice. The chicken is tender, there is a nice balance between the cheese and rice, and it is just a great combination altogether. They also do a decent job with their birria tacos (although wasn't the biggest fan of the consume) and their churrasco plate. They even top it with a legit salad, not just the chopped lettuce and tomato. In the end, I am always full and satisfied with the meal. I certainly think this is worth a visit. Oh, I forgot to mention everyone's favorite thing about the place, they have a robot server! Definitely very cute.

I usually rotate between the tacos, enchiladas, and molcajetes, and while the tacos themselves are just okay, the overall experience is solid. The fresh chips are easily some of the best I've had at a Mexican restaurant (warm and crisp). Add queso to those chips and it really seals the deal. They more than make up for the tacos being a bit underwhelming and are honestly reason enough to come back. This is a great neighborhood spot if you're looking for authentic flavors, generous portions, and excellent chips and dips (biggest downside is no liquor aka no margaritas). Not every dish is a knockout, but the highlights keep it comfortably in 4-star territory.

I was really one mayonnaise filled torta away from missing out on my favorite Mexican restaurant of Cary. The food is some of the freshest and most authentic in the area, and is consistently spot on. Forget heavy burritos or overly sauced enchiladas, this place is the real deal. When you come to Esmeralda Grill, you should really focus on the meat heavy dishes, whether it be via land or sea. There are so many different options to choose from, from both categories. When thinking seafood, expect the full fish. If you find yourself with the fresh grilled tilapia, you will receive a delicious whole fish that tastes as if it was caught that morning. It is such a fantastic option. I also appreciate the camarones a la diabla, or Diablo shrimp. The shrimp are plump and juicy, the spice of the dish is excites your taste buds and is a great dish. My favorite entrees are the land meat dishes though. El Trio Perfecto is my go-to order, it is grilled steak, chicken and pork all on one plate with rice, beans, salad, and tortillas. The Mexican spice rub on the meats is absolutely mouth watering, the flavors are so bold and tasty. The meats are all cooked to perfection and the portions are gigantic. You can make different tacos with the various meats, it is seriously one of my favorite Mexican dishes. I would highly recommend this! Additionally, Esmeralda Grill has so many other wonderful dishes for different flavor profiles. My grandparents are pretty particular about empanadas, but simply cannot get enough of Esmeralda's version. They also make some killer tacos, and some very affordable ones if you were to come on Tuesday! The moral of the story? Don't base your opinion of a restaurant after a single visit. You don't come across a fantastic hole in the wall every day, Esmeralda Grill is one that every Mexican food lover should know!

The staff really get into celebrating the birthdays, and that part was really fun! However, it took close to an hour for the server to ask us for a food order - including appetizers. Service was around a 3.5, friendly but slow. We wanted to start with the dip trio, but after waiting about 55 minutes from when we sat down, we had to flag down our waitress and ask if we could put in the order. She then came back to take the regular food order, not leaving a whole lot of time between the dip coming out and our food coming out. The dip trio was OK, the queso was the best part. I'm not sure if the dip was supposed to be a cold dip or a hot dip, but it was like a lukewarm. I got the chicken and steak fajitas, which I would give a 2.5 out of five. The meat was a bit chewy. Overall I'd give the food a 3. The drinks were a bit too sugary and not well balanced--more filler than alcohol--so I'd give them a 2 (tried a sip of friends, the house marg, mango marg, and drink that comes in a little bathtub). It's a really nice spot for a party/celebration atmosphere, could be very fun for a bday, but you'll need some patience and to keep your expectations at bay for food. They also add a 3% credit card fee when using card, which I personally dislike. In general, I don't tend to patronize businesses that do that.

We've recommended this place more times than I can count, so it genuinely pains me to write this. Today's Sunday brunch was a frustrating experience from start to finish. The wait was long, which we've come to expect and honestly never minded because the food made it worth it. What made today different was the service. One person in our group never had their order put in. We only found out when everyone else's food arrived -- after an already lengthy wait. Getting our server's attention to correct it was its own ordeal, and by the time the missing order finally came out, the rest of the table had long finished eating. To top it off, the music was blasting at a volume that made it impossible to hear each other across the table. At Sunday brunch. We asked our server to turn it down and were told the manager said it couldn't be done. I genuinely don't know what to do with that answer. The food, as always, was good -- and that's the only reason this isn't a one-star review. We'll give it another chance because the kitchen hasn't let us down. But the service today was unforgivable, and someone in management needs to know that.
