This location has one of the cleanest lobbies in the area, the tables seem to be wiped down regularly and the fountains aren't covered in wasted product like at some others around. Some of the food items such as the Doritos Locos tend to be stale but for the price you pay, the quality matches. I'd like to rate them higher, but on my last visit I walked up to the counter and waited 5-7 minutes before an employee approached me for service. My most recent visits to this location has been through the drive thru I either get this older Hispanic lady or heavier set Hispanic man with glasses and receive the rudest service. These disrespectful drive thru workers don't wear the usual associate uniform, so I'm guessing they are managers or are some kind of a "lead" team member. I understand fast food can be extremely fast pace and be stressful but without decent customer service you won't have any service. Especially being a member of management you should have the highest standard of great customer service. What can I say? It's Taco Bell. If you've been to one, you've been to all. Obviously if you're a fan of traditional Mexican food, this place is not for you; however, if you don't mind dehydrated beef reconstituted into a watery soup of meat, prepare to be delighted! When lunch is on a budget and quantity outweighs quality, Taco Bell reigns supreme. Yet most unfortunately, spiders do not, reign supreme that is. Perhaps they do in the evolving story line of the MCU but in the dining room of a fast food joint, they aren't much appreciated. As the typical reader can surmise, I had an unwelcomed guest (with 8 fabulously creepy legs) join me for lunch. Let me stop your wondering and wandering mind now; no, it was not discovered inhabiting my order of soup meat. I found it slowly rappelling from the dining room ceiling. It's clear planned destination was my steaming flour tortillas that helplessly laid in wait upon one of the Bell's signature purple tables. Although I eventually behaved as any person would that had been interrupted, intrusively and unexpectedly, by a dangling arachnid, I initially sat with delay. I believe my hesitation was born from the bosom of confusion. You see, my unexpected visit took place less than a week before All Hallows Eve. In those, perceptively long but realistically short, seconds I wondered, did the good people of the Bell really bother to take their Halloween decorating to this next level? No!! Shawn, my internal voice yelled with an overuse of exclamation marks we have all grown to love in text and e-mails. I reacted, correction: I overreacted, like any person would. I lunged from my seat, shouting some incoherent words and; subsequently, sounded like a lost, scared baby yeti to any whom stood witness. I frantically swung my arms across the table in an attempt to displace the creature and; subsequently, appeared like a drug addled crazed man punching the air. While audibly rambling or quietly mouthing curses (my memory serves as unreliable when recording events under stress), I quickly squatted to the floor to verify that I had moved him from a crash course with my meal and; more importantly, to ensure I had not killed or injured the hungry little fella. Upon feeling the eyes of the other guests burning into my back, I returned to my seat and; more importantly, my slushy, meaty (at least 35% meaty) entree. Perhaps, I wondered, to my fellow patrons I may have first appeared as a tweeker on a meth binge. What else is one to make of such erratic behavior; however, it was my abrupt return to the table in such a calm state that may have shifted their mental images from meth-head to the poster child for temporary acid flash backs. I know if the shoe was on the other foot and I saw a man scattering around at nothing, my first thought wouldn't be, oh! he's probably just swatting away a spooky pest that's too small for me to see from my vantage point. In any event, these silent reflections led to a smile and a silent chuckle that I shared with me, myself, and (no, not the spider) I. While most may find this to be a jolting and horrifying experience, as aforementioned, I, seeing as no harm was done, was pleasantly amused. I feel those same people that would rant about said "disgusting" visit would nonetheless leave a scathing review. To them I say, get over yourself!!!!! (with special emphasis on the overuse of the punctuation). Remember, this is Taco Bell, was never and will never be Michelin rated. Furthermore, and this is their appeal, don't strive to be. Yes, perhaps, if there was an infestation of spiders and maybe if my dining companion was a brown recluse, I would be of a different mind. However, I'm happy to report there wasn't and it was not. In fact, I have since visited the dining room again and have not found any more creepy-crawlies at eye level suspension. All cheap sarcasm aside, I am proud to declare that no spiders were injured in the making of this review!!!!! P.S. Two tales of two Taco Bells... This will be the first one, which begs the question; Why would Captain Pie Hole in his lofty eminence and with his legendary (in his own mind, at least) reputability, squander his precious time and erudite wit upon a fast food outlet belonging to a national chain? Well, partly for revenge, and partly because having discovered that one chain store can differ greatly in quality, value and service from another, he owes it to the really good one, which will be described in a different review, to make the distinction. I described to the manager on duty at the offending venue what actions I would take in regards to such a grave lapse in human decency, let alone, customer service which this review is concerned. At that time, she didn't seem to care, even when I threatened to unlimber our dreaded Sarcasmatron device, and trumpet news of their rancid malfeasance far and wide on yelp.com. (For technical details of the deadly and reasonably unpleasant Sarcasmatron, see the Captains FIRST review of Bill's Cafe dated 8-18-2009, NOT the follow up review dated 8-22-2009) Maybe she thought I wasn't serious. Maybe she thinks I won't send a copy to their corporate headquarters via the national website... BWA HA HA! Ahem... My wife and I patronized this place on and off for years. Not because it compared well with other Taco Bells but because it was located conveniently between the Fremont Bart Station and our home along with many of our favorite shopping venues. Because of this, we put up with the rather indifferent service along with meat and bean portions which seemed much smaller than the norm. Indeed, they were ludicrous compared with the corporate promotional pictures of the various items plastered all over the joint. I even remember for a while, a portioning standard poster issued by the corporation being placed in full view of customers standing at the counter! Despite this, the staff blithely dabbed and smeared portions which did not come near to these guidelines. There's nothing like suspecting one is being cheated and then seeing undeniable proof of this provided by the very proprietors committing this flummery! Yet there they were! On our last visit, I didn't notice the poster being present, although I could have been wrong. Anyway, due to apathy, or fatigue etcetera, we continued to suffer these indignities from time to time, without complaint. Until... A couple of months ago... "That's right Cap'n! Tear em a new one! The sarcasmatron isn't overheat'n since I beefed up the cooling system, so rock on wif yer bad self!" (This, from Ma Megabyte, the Captain's matrimonial unit, partner-in-crime and inter-human/alien technologist) Thanks Ma! Here goes. I had placed my order for 14 "fresco" crispy tacos and waited for the order to be prepared, trusting the staff to get such a simple order right. For those unfamiliar, Taco Bell, in a laudable effort to provide lower fat and cholesterol menu choices, allows one to order many items with the usual cheese and sour cream to be replaced by a simple pico de gallo, or chunky salsa made of fresh chopped tomatoes, and onions with a touch of cilantro. Yum. We actually prefer these to the originals. After driving 8.4 miles from the place and arriving home with dinner for myself and a very tired and hungry Ma Megabyte, we discovered upon opening the wrappers that cheese had been applied to our "fresco" tacos, and no pico de gallo was present! Just that and the usual anemic servings of filling. What made this half assed performance even more galling, was that when I ordered, the place was practically empty, not busy at all. I phoned the manager and after explaining my issue, she said, "Bring em back, we'll give you new ones." I explained that it would be necessary for me to drive 16.8 miles round trip on surface streets to do this, and I felt it was only fair that I not only receive a corrected order, but a refund besides. The "lady" reacted to this with raucus laughter and replied, "We're not in the business of giving stuff away free. Ya shoulda checked em before ya left!" Somehow maintaining a semblance of calm, I asked if the loss of a regular customer, a miserable review on yelp, and a complaint to the corporation was worth saving a few bucks by refusing to make this situation right? She said "I don't care what you do mister, bring em back or not. I'm busy"... Click. Well, seeing as this is the first review ever posted by any one for this joint, which has been in business for years, I guess apathy is rampant out there, even among yelpers.
