The food is pretty good here. It's not the best in Knoxville, but the staff is friendly and the food is good.

I have driven by here for a year hesitant to stop in. From the outside, I was like how good can it be it's in an awful spot and looks small. Then I read it was voted best Mexican in Farragut. I was like most people up here dont know what good ethnic food is as we have tried some that people say are great and they are not. Too many chains here that dont represent the category they want to be in. So what evening the family and I decide to bite the bullet and go. As we walk up, I'm like well may be there's hope. We are greeted quickly and sat. Our server comes very quickly and gets our drink orders. As we sit there, I notice something I have never seen. Every single person working is moving at warp speed. These folks are hustling, not one all of them. On top of that, they are all stopping by each table. One would walk by our table and see something that needed attention and stop and see if we needed it taken care of. I spoke with a coworker that went a few days later and the experienced the same thing. Then the food was actual very good also. I got the burritos. We have found a new place to go or the regular. This place never disappoints. I'm not a drinker but for flavorful food this is the spot. The owner is from Oaxaca, a region in Mexico known for excellent food. I usually get one of three things here: 1). The street tacos-some of the best in Knoxville 2). The Molcajete -- filled with shrimp, chicken, steak, chorizo, fajita veggies, and the pork! The pork in that broth is bath worthy. Lol 3) The Boys Pollo- chicken breast flattened and grilled served covered with chorizo and shrimp. Ask them to add a piece of steak along with the chicken for a local off the menu gem!! read more

Taco Boy is a real Mexican joint. Warm, friendly, reasonable and good Mex food. We have been several times and enjoyed it every time. Oddly, while the food is real substantial Mexican maybe part of the reason we go back for is the friendly Mexican atmosphere. Never fancy but welcoming. The staff are as nice as they can be and as accommodating as they can be. Cannot say their menu is very unusual but we must complement the food prepare guys on an excellent job. WOW! As someone from out of town who was craving Mexican food following the Thanksgiving holiday, my family and I stumbled on this place and I am so glad that we did. We went during happy hour which has a special of 2 for 1 margaritas - I should just end my review here because it does not get much better than that. The margaritas were okay - a lot of sugar but I guess you can't ask for very much when they are made from the margarita mix. 1) FOOD: the chips were off the wall good. They served them with homemade salsa and bean dip. It was nice having a hot and cold option for dipping purposes. Also, I ordered a Taco Boy combo of the chile relleno and enchilada which just came with more delicious flavors. Pro tip, they will also bring you more salsa and chips if you ask for it 2) SERVICE: Everyone was so nice! They were attentive, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and efficient. They were able to answer questions that we asked regarding menu options as well. 3) ESTABLISHMENT: the restroom and restaurant itself was clean. Before you order, go to the bathroom. On your way, you will pass what is either the kitchen/slash janitors closet. I unfortunately didn't go the bathroom until I was leaving or I would have left immediately. The beans were runny so was the cheese sauce. This was such a great night! Sadly, we left Knoxville before Cinco de Mayo or we would have definitely been here then too! The service was uber friendly and top notch! The menu had a good selection and authentic feel and they were clean! (y'all know how I hate sticky menus = dirty menu = dirty kitchen). Taco Boys was clean and nice. Music and TVs were at the perfect sound level too. It looks like a lot of locals drink here as well...which is a very good sign that they are doing things correctly. My family and I love coming here !!! We have family dinners most Sundays and let me tell you some of the nicest staff ever. They are so attentive and recognize us every time we walk in the door, even when I come with friends!! The chipotle chicken tacos and acp are always bomb !!! The tacos come with limes, cilantro /onions, and a spicy jalapeño salsa (i'm not sure the actually name but it's soooo good). This is if you get the authentic street tacos, it doesn't come with the beef tacos, but they will always bring you whatever you need!!! Definitely recommend to anyone in knoxville!! read more

Not sure about the name of the restaurant. It makes me think it would have some sort of bizarre pizzas and burgers in tacos or something, which don't get me wrong would be cool but this place, to me, was a Mexican joint which happened to have some TVs and a bar. Semantics, right!? Anyways... If your reading this, forget what the name of the place is and give it a shot. The food was quite delicious and definitely more authentic than your typical east Tennessee Mexican... Wait wait wait, I have to clarify, when you open the menu there is a page (the first on the inside?) that has real food (i.e. tacos, tortas, molcajetes, etc.). Do yourself a favor and order from that list, oh and grab an horchata. The balance of the menu is what drives me absolute bonkers about all these American Mexican places. It contains what people come to 'unfortunately' expect (i.e chimichangas, etc.). Horrible compared to what you could get if only you would let yourself live.... You alive? Good. Eat from page one! REAL Mexican is incredible so please give it a try and order of the first page! :) The servers were nice too. Unfortunately, I do not agree with my fellow Yelpers on this one. We came here a few months ago and felt the food was only average. Considering they propose to be authentic Mexican, we thought it was pretty lackluster. So we gave it a break and came back tonight. Sadly, our original assessment was pretty accurate. First, I will say that the third star is solely for the staff. They are incredibly friendly, although our waitress wasn't very attentive and we ran out of drinks (a sacrilege in Turkey Creek dining) but their attitude was happy and inviting. So on to the food. I usually judge Mexican restaurant by a couple standards: chips and salsa, fajitas, and the chile relleno. First impression is always the chips and salsa. The chips are not made in house and the salsa is flavorless and watery. Watery I don't mind, but the flavor base just wasn't there... at all. They do bring you a bonus of refried beans with a little white cheese on it, but alas, the beans taste like they are from a can. The fajitas are no better than you would get at a tex-mex place and maybe not even that good. The only redeeming factor is the fairly fresh guac, and not everyone likes it. The chile was just OK. Breading was fine but the chile itself had a weird frozen taste to it. Again I suspect it's not made in-house. Tonight I had the steak fajita chimichanga. The steak was tough and not very flavorful. The chimi itself was not even crispy on the edges. I realize it's drenched in white cheese, but there's a difference between being covered in cheese and being a sloppy, soggy mess. Theirs is the latter. My wife got 2 tacos off the combo menu and she said she basically had to choke them down. The meat was incredibly greasy and tasted old to her. There's a lot of room for improvement here in the food. For the price they charge, it should be a lot better. With a similarly priced Mexican place like La Parilla right down the street, I suggest you go ahead and pass on this one and go to the place that cooks with some care and passion. I love that everyone is friendly, but you can't eat attitude and after all, that's what you want to go home with in your stomach... good food. read more

Wow...this was good. My son and I came here on our way out of town. I like that they bring queso and beans with the chips also. We had the fajitas. It was little on the dry side, but it was still good. I wish they gave more guacamole, as it was very good but very little of it. Beans and rice were good. read more

An awesome place! Love the food. We ordered our favourite steak fahita, hot wings and churro with ice cream as dessert. The steak are so tender and juicy and made us feel warm in this cooling down October. I am a ice cream fan and were soooo satisfied with the churro icecream. This is my new favorite Mexican Restaurant!! It combines the best food with the best Margaritas, you can't lose. The margaritas taste just like Chez which everyone knows is the best in the city. Chips are crispy. Salsa is quite hot but I like it that way. There is a bit of a language barrier which can cause some ordering problems. I asked for no cheese and got cheese.
