Let me first say. I held off on trying this place for a long time. Because I am not into sports in any way shape or form. The name through me off because of the whole sports bar theme. However I'm glad my wife and I met some friends here one night a year ago and gave it a try. The food is the real deal. They have your usual Tex-Mex offerings, but they also have some real deal Mexican food. The Carnitas plate is our favorite. They also have a great selection of meats for the tacos. Everything is excellent. Their drinks are very reasonably priced. If I was going to suggest one thing. I would suggest play music more geared to an older crowd. It seems like every time we have been the music is some kind of electronic stuff. If they played something more mellow and relaxed it would make for a better atmosphere. We were driving through Knoxville on Easter Sunday. Most of the places we would typically stop were closed. Yelp led us to Taco Boy and we are so glad. The atmosphere was clean and fun and the food was excellent. I highly recommend the Boys Pollo. My husband and kids all had enchiladas and said they were great. The prices were fantastic. I don't know what I was supposed to get here, but what I ordered was not good. I got a torta, which was a whole lot of bread, a few chunks of meat, and maybe a little avocado from the knife they cut the bread with? We order the burrito chicken Mexicano and the chicken chimichangas. The chicken burrito was unimpressive, it had maybe 2oz of actual fajita chicken and the rest was filler with unflavored rice and sparse beans. The verde sauce was really good but the cheese queso lacked any flavor. The chimichangas were actually the worst we have ever had. The meat was flavorless boiled chicken and barely flash fried with the same ol bland rice and beans. The guacamole was also pretty blah. The salsa was zesty but had a odd sweetness to it. Have been wanting to try this place for a while as I am a taco hound. They give you both salsa and a bean and cheese dip when you arrive. Both are very good. The menu has a lot of authentic Mexican food.I ordered 2 Pastor tacos and a chorizo taco. It took a while to get the food. Tacos where good and they came with a nice hot habanero sauce. Amazing food. They brought out cheese dip with refried beans in it! All I can say there is wow! I decided on getting the enchaladas ranchero. I went to this place recently and was disappointed. I feel bad giving them a 2 start review but 3 stars is "A-OK" and I do not feel it was up to that. Perhaps because I thought it was a Mexican restaurant and sports bar but it seems like it's really a sports bar that happens to serve some Mexican. It definitely does not seem to be their focus. I didn't think the menu was that exciting and our dishes were not really that great. They were edible, the service was fine, the place was sufficiently clean/lit/etc but I have zero desire to go back there again. I didn't think the margarita was very good which is surprising considering the bar emphasis. I think one thing that was disappointing to me (that might not bother others) was how americanized and bland the food was. I have been on the hunt for a great taco spot in Knoxville, but this place is not it. The salsa was mediocre, and chips were just 'ok'. The tacos were tiny, so it's good I ordered 4 of them. I ordered one asada, one carnitas, and 2 pastor tacos. They were 2.50 each (a little pricey for the size), and came with lime, chili sauce, and pico (minus the tomato, which I thought was strange). The asada had a great flavor, and the carnitas was very bland and a little dry. The pastor was ok, the sauce had a nice flavor and the pineapple gave it good flavor as well. I also ordered the chorizo fundido, and expected more of a queso instead of a sizzling fajita entree dish.. Ate here today for lunch... Food is good, a little bland if you ask me. Rice better than beans, neither outstanding. Burrito was just basically fried ground beef, soft tortilla and a little cheese, and not much spices/flavor. Taco was fine again lacking flavor. Tried my wife's tamale, reminded me of a store bought frozen food tamale, just OK. This is a 3 star place, but because of good price and good service will propel rating to 4 stars. read more

I work at a business in the same plaza as Taco Boy and we LOVE the food. I order takeout at least once a week and the staff is always helpful and friendly. Don't let the small strip mall location fool you - this place is a hidden gem. I had the shrimp and rice, and it was fantastic - the vegetables and tomatoes were delicious, with a little kick but not too spicy. Excellent service, great food and reasonable prices! The chips were warm and fresh tasting. They even gave a bonus cheese and bean dip (in addition to the salsa) that was delicious. I ordered 3 tacos. One beef one chicken and one steak. Dreadful. The chicken and the steak were nothing more than dried out meat on a tortilla shell. The waiter apparently didn't understand me since he was just learning the English language. The one complete taco I did get was bland and tasteless. One of the best tacos in knoxville! I don't give 5 stars often, but this place definitely deserves it. The meat selection is surprisingly large. The food at this restaurant was absolutely terrible. When we ate at this restaurant the tacos were terrible we sent them back and had to pay for them anyway. We been asked if we could get some more tacos and we decided to cancel it before they got there we never even saw the tacos and I had to pay for those as well.The ground beef was unlike anything we've ever tasted The service was terrible the employees were not nice to us. When we talk to them about this they complained about how they would have to pay for it. And we decided to pay for it anyway. And none of us have left this restaurant happy. read more
