I hate to give bad reviews when the service was good, but the food was just not good. They were friendly and prompt which was great. However, I ordered the sampler platter which came with a quesadilla, two steak flautas and 6 hot wings along with pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. The fried food was clearly left in the frying for way too long and the fryer oil must have been old because my food smelled like rancid oil. The guacamole was wet and runny, but the sour cream pica and quesadilla were good. I also enjoyed the chips and salsa and they were quick to ask if we needed more. They should have never served my food. I can't imagine they couldn't tell there was clearly an issue with it being cooked to death and smelly. If you look at the picture it's clear at least that the Flautas are way overdone. The wings look ok, but they were just as bad. Both items were hard and nearly inedible. read more

This is actually one of the few places I enjoy going to because of great food and even better service. The team is nice and friendly and greet you right as you enter and seat you immediately. They've got excellent beans and rice, carnitas, chili verde, and beef cheek. The carnitas and beef cheek in tacos are delicious. This has to be one of my best hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants! You might struggle with choosing between the Cuban restaurant right next door or a cup of coffee but Taco Boy is definitely the better choice. The venue is rather small inside almost reminding you of a waffle house but if you can get a seat at the bar or you have to wait it is definitely worth it. I would recommend something on the menu but almost everything is good especially with arroz y Frijoles (Rice and Beans) All the servers are bilingual and can help you and guide you through the menu if you're not sure what a dish might be or consist of. The drink specials are quite amazing and alcohol never runs out at this unlimited bar. If you need something strong for "one of those days" definitely ask for a cocktail strong (fuertes) and I've definitely noticed that they have some of the strongest drinks around town. Bathrooms here aren't bad but it is weird because you do have to walk by the kitchen to reach them. A great starter for you would be the chips and queso I know it seems very basic but this queso is beyond amazing. If the cheese is too strong for you then complimentary bean dip is given. Either is a Euphoria of yummy! Take your time, don't be in a rush and definitely enjoy the culture, spirit and atmosphere of this small and easily passed Mexican restaurant. First time here. Huaraches were good (Carnitas), but nothing to write home about. They forgot about my extra Habanero sauce after specifically reminding them. Something was obviously wrong with the draft beer system. I sat at the bar and nearly all beers out of the many taps were pouring foamy and the bartenders were constantly having to pour the foam out and top off the glasses. I doubt it was a pressure problem and most likely they were having a problem with the cooler keeping temp as all 3 of my draft beers were the opposite of cold. It's too bad really, I had high hopes off a friends recommendation and the reviews, but it was not to be. If you want consistently good Mexican food in the Knoxville area, hit the places below in order: 1. Abuelos 2. Soccer Taco (Northshore or Bearden Hill) 3. Chivo Taqueria 4. Chuy's (Tex-Mex, I know, but delicious and consistent) 5. Fiesta Garibaldi Anything else is forgettable. Take it from a long time resident (2008-2020). All others are forgettable. read more

Taco Boy is a classic example of how you can never judge a book by its cover. If it were not for the outstanding Yelp and Google reviews, we never would have tried this place last weekend. We happened to be spending the night (to get our new puppy...yay!!) and there were a lot of choices close to our hotel. Whenever I am going some place new, I rely on my fellow Yelpers to guide me to a good choice. Thanks team, in spite of the name, the location in a strip mall, and the general look of the place that just told me that it wouldn't be my thing, we took your advice and I am glad we did. Everyone had a great dinner and the GIANT large margarita is super solid though absolutely NOT recommended if you are driving. The only reason I pulled a star is the men's room was really really dirty. I know that is sort of a thing authentic Mexican Restaurants do but I really didn't appreciate it with my 6 year old. For the record, my wife said the ladies room was perfectly fine so maybe it was just a bad day for the dudes! Oh my... we came here because of the decent ratings but so much was bad. Good: Salsa had a great flavor. My Dos Equis Lager was fresh. The server was friendly and attentive. Taco Boy really disappointed me this time. The service was terrible. After waiting to order we waited for our cold food to arrive. The server never came to verify everything was OK. When we flagged her down to let her know she basically didn't care. She didn't bring the manager over or anything. It took another 10 minutes for me to just go to the pick up cash register to get them to ring up my order for cold food. They need a health department visit with someone with a thermometer. Dude this place is so good. This is the only Mexican restaurant I have ever been to that gives you free bean dip! My God, why I pay $9.50 at another restaurant for bean dip when they give it to you for free mixed with queso, along with your salsa. Their food is so well priced and extra delicious.
