Apparently the families of Middletown learned about this spot because it was full on a Friday night! A few booths open thankfully but otherwise large groups everywhere and lots of families. It was ... loud! We brought our youngest son with us who commits to sampling every burger off the kids meal from Mexican restaurants. It was a average. He compared it to something you'd get at a community ballpark. Came with fries. My husband and I ordered two entrees to split. Pork tacos minus all the cilantro and sauce. I'd hoped to get the sauce on the side but when I asked the server said "maybe, but the kitchen is very busy." Only two tacos but the meat portion was generous and it was cooked to tender. Lots of flavor. Came with a side of rice and pinto beans. The ground beef burrito was also good. Not overly greasy and topped with cheese sauce. Also a side of beans and rice. The only disappointment was the cheese dip. Super basic and boring, as much as we loved queso we wouldn't order it again. Chips and salsa offered were great, and I'd consider the salsa at least medium flavoring. The team worked together to clear off plates and keep our drinks and chips coming. Top 5 restaurant in Middletown. Maybe top 3. This hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant has some bussin Birria. And the complementary salsa is bomb! I really don't remember much else because they knocked it out of the park on the salsa and Birria. When you have those two, nothing else matters. I was with a group of 8 and we were served decently quick. I think we were there for just over an hour which for a big group is wild. Why this place isn't always packed is a mystery. Mexican food outside of Chicago is always different and not always in a good way, but Las Margaritas didn't disappoint. Everything was very good! We loved the chips and salsa lol. My 3 year old went to town on the chips and salsa and the chicken taco. She doesn't always eat so you know it's good when she does. I had the steak tacos. They weren't the carne asada I'm used to at all but they were very good. I love that they serve black beans as those are my personal favorite. The prickly pear margarita was good. Not to strong which I was very thankful for. The bean dip we had has so good. I wish I knew the recipe so I could make it at home. The guacamole was very good as well. Driving down Shelbyville Rd I saw the glowing green neon Las Margaritas sign and was intrigued! What was this new restaurant located in a strip next to Fat Jimmy's pizza? As we walked up, noticed the "A" health inspection sign and that they were applying vinyl lettering to the door. One of the managers opened the door and said "we've been waiting for you!" What a nice welcome! Our friendly server Julie told us they have been open for 4 weeks. We started with some house frozen margaritas which were great. They are on special for $3.99 Mon - Thurs. We skipped the appetizer, other than the complementary chips and salsa, and ordered the steak tacos and chicken enchiladas. I was very excited when I saw they had a mole sauce on their menu, one of my favs when done well. I ordered the Las Marias chicken enchiladas with the red sauce, and asked for a side of the mole to try. It was amazing! My husband's steak tacos were delicious too. The staff of the restaurant was very attentive, with several people checking on us throughout the evening. Our tab was higher than what we normally spend on Mexican food at the local chains, but the quality of this meal was on a different (higher) level. The menu describes it as a "Made from scratch Gulf Coast Mexican kitchen....using the finest of Mexican herbs and spices." You can taste the difference! read more

One of my absolute favorite things in life is visiting one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. One of my second favorite things in life is discovering a new Mexican restaurant, whether it's a newly-opened eatery or just one we hadn't been to before. This is what this review is about. After getting an email and a couple flyers about Las Margaritas my wife and I finally decided to give it a try. To be honest you never need to ask if we want to go to a Mexican restaurant. You can merely think about it and we're on board. On a Friday evening we were seated immediately and surprisingly comfortably. We generally prefer tables over booths because some booths aren't comfortable. Either the bench seat is too low or too soft and you end up eating at chest level. The booths here are a good level. The dining room is painted purple and red. Normally I'd wonder about those color choices, but the red is a deep, rich red the compliments the purple nicely. The bar, situated at the back of the restaurant, is right-sized of the establishment and doesn't try to be the main focus. The menu here is amazing. Being a Mexican restaurant means that you'll have the core of the Mexican food items and some places stop there. Not Las Margaritas. They have a second of Special food items that are creative and appetizing. I opted for the Tlayollos con Pueurco and was not disappointed. Black beans in a corn meal blanket (think tamale), topped with seasoned pork. In a word, DELICIOUS (I've posted a photo for your envious viewing.) Our server (Julia) was great. Friendly and helpful and spot-on with the iced tea refills. Our first visit to Las Margaritas was great. I think it's a pretty awesome new eatery and I hope it lasts. read more

Interesting spot in a strip mall off Hwy 60. We came by after "yelping" local Mexican food joints and this place got a perfect 5 star. We had to experience this for ourselves. The hostess was very nice and welcoming and we were seated immediately. The chips and salsa were delicious, but not spicy in the least. I think it was purely a tomato, onion, and cilantro base, with no peppers in it at all. The chips were fresh and quality. The waiter was a bit offputting at first, and wasn't rude, but wasn't overly friendly. We asked a few questions about their margarita specials they were running, and he spoke quickly and didn't offer any explanation. As he was hard to understand, we didn't really grasp what he was telling us. It seemed as though the entire waitstaff was far too interested in a large group of high school girls that was there and we were just in the way. When our entrees came out, they were delicious, well prepared and seasoned, and everything was quite tasty. They get a 5 for the food, but a 3 for service (other than the hostess). Overall, we'd give them a 3.5 star. Their food is great, but their prices are too high and their margaritas are borderline unaffordable at regular menu price. We'd likely try a different spot if we came into town and were craving Mexican fare. read more

Birria tacos have been on my radar for awhile now. So I did some research and found this place right down the road from me. I ordered delivery (3rd party) for myself (I know, depressing). Everything was packed up nicely and I even got free chips and salsa! They're on the actual menu so assuming they're not free. The chips were good and the salsa was fresh...and they didn't skimp. I ordered the Birria Tacos. 3 giant tortillas filled with shredded beef, cheese, onions and cilantro...with that broth on the side. Also came with hot sauce which was yum! Nice kick to it. This is my first time having this type of taco, so I have nothing else to compare them to. But I thought they were delicious! I honestly thought they didn't even need the broth...super juicy. May have gotten slightly soggy because of delivery but regardless, I'd get them again. If you're working on your waistline or trying to keep your shirt and/or face clean...these just aren't for you. It was national margarita day yesterday, so of course my friends and I had to pop by here to celebrate. Everything started good, the hostess and our server were very kind. Their margaritas are pretty good, being strong but also tasty at the same time. Most of us got the arroz con pollo, which I think was mediocre at best. However, the shrimp was actually very good and I would definitely go back just for their shrimp! Their rice was okay as well. Their queso tasted very good but was a little thin and watery for my liking. The salsa was pretty yummy too. However, after we received our food we didn't see our server again for nearly an hour. I'm not one to do this, but after about half an hour we were trying to flag down other staff members to try and see if we could be helped. But nobody would come up to us. Granted, they were pretty busy so I understand they had a lot going on. But we definitely felt neglected as a table. They also messed up our checks a couple of times as well. So surprisingly enough, this place went from my least favorite to my favorite Mexican food spot. My last review was a little dated, so my friend and I decided to give them another shot. On my return, I found that everything I didn't like previously was exponentially better- the food, drinks, and service. I order the signature or mezcal margaritas, and all of the food is excellent. The staff takes great care of our group and we are in there every week for the last couple months now. The flavor was just right! The serving portions was just enough! I asked for a more spicy salsa for my chips and now I wish I didn't the green salsa is very spicy but good! B and I were out for a motorcycle ride, and we had really worked up an appetite, so we decided to stop in here for dinner after a Yelp search in the area for Mexican restaurants. This spot was new, so we decided to check it out, and we're so glad we did! The service was excellent! We were seated immediately and our server was very attentive throughout our meal. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we stopped in, but they seemed well staffed and our server was so great I would expect he would offer the same service even if they were busier. We started with two margaritas - the House Lime and Watermelon. Both were great! They rim the drinks with Tajin seasoning and salt, which really makes them delicious! We had the Arroz con Pollo, which was enough for two, Refried Beans, and Flour Tortillas. Everything was really tasty! Great reviews on Yelp and we were still blown away. We got Cochinita Pibil and ground beef burritos. Fall apart tender pork cooked in this amazing broth served with corn tortillas. OMG is all I can say. Even the plantains served with it were cooked to perfection. My wife's burritos were so much better than what we were expecting. It's all about the sauce on that one. Not your ordinary red sauce you're used to getting. First thing my wife said is this place tries harder. Zoom in on those pics. Agree with other reviewers is among the best Latin food in the city, at least on this visit. Can't wait to go back and add another star to review. read more

Hot news business notification received at dinner time. We hadn't decided on what or where to spot out. We checked the location on business and onwards we went. We found Las Margaritas easily just off Shelbyville rd in a medium sized shopping center. Plenty of lot parking. As we entered there was a chalkboard specials on the walk, Bourbon margaritas and lime mojitos special $;-). Host seated us in a booth as we walked to our table we noticed the back bar had a small crowd but not the dining room which didn't mean a good sign. But don't let that distract you from the evening. Our server Juille we awesome we ordered the drink specials and were tasty with just the right amount of before dinner alcohol and water. The seats were comfortable and the service has cloth napkins, Nice! Juille brought our menus we found the menu easily laid out and read accommodated with helpful pics. We ordered the chicken entree and the salmon forgive me not remembering their names, we enjoyed both as well as the sides. The flavors were not the usual Mexican I'm used to which was awesome! The flavors jumped with spice blends of omg. The chips are house made with little salt good for those watching salt intake the sauce offering was mild so we asked for a hotter sample. Juille brought the " heat " and the " fire "she recommended mixing the sauces to test to meet our heat tolerance. Yep good thing she recommended for if not there's no telling I would have been able to soothe my thirst. Serving sizes were plenty. We were checked on by the manager asking if everything was tasty and as ordered. That is the best customer service more businesses should employ. The pricing is $$. Great value! On my search for the trend, birria tacos I ended up choosing Las Margaritas. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was all hot, fresh, and came out relatively quick. This was my first time with birria so I have nothing to compare it to but the meat was plentiful and moist with good brisket flavor. The broth was nice as well, and the little red sauce was very spicy if you like things on the spicier spectrum and want to add an extra kick to your taco. The queso had a good amount of spice but was a bit watery. I would recommend the birria if that's what you're seeking. I'd get it again ! The place wasn't crowded at all either. read more

Their margarita options were amazing! It lives up to their name. They had three different house margarita options, Lime, Mezcal, and Bourbon. Other fun options included a Hibiscus Margarita, and Jalepeno Margarita! The prices were extremely reasonable for the quality of food, and all the menu items were comparably priced - even their seafood and specialty dishes. Their tacos are a great option! I got to try both the fish and pork tacos. Ingredients are fresh and colorful! The veggie quesadilla had squash, mushrooms, and other great fresh options! The Mayan in La Grange was our favorite restaurant in all of Kentucky. I didn't know that they had moved to Louisville and rebranded until recently. Today we got our first curbside pickup from the Middletown location and were so incredibly excited. The bourbon margaritas have not changed and are still absolutely amazing. The only small complaint that I have is that the "piggy maya" was very spicy. I used to get it all the time when we visited the old restaurant in La Grange and it was never this hot. I am personally very sensitive to spicy foods. My husband still absolutely loved it. Now I will say that the carnitas were cooked to perfection and flavor-wise it can't be beat. I don't know if they changed the recipe or we just happened to get a spicy batch. Maybe next time I will ask for a milder version. I am still very very happy that we get to enjoy this awesome food again!!! read more

Solid place that will now be in my Mexican restaurant rotation. My fiancé and I started with a prickly pear margarita and a strawberry mojito, and the drinks were strong and not too sweet. It might be my favorite place to get a margarita now. My fiancé had a pork dish that he said was super tender and I had flautas. The spicy sauce on top was great. It's a little more expensive and portions are a little smaller than other places, but quality is better. Only complaint is the salsa wasn't that great. read more

Sooo good. This was our first visit and rarely do I eat out and immediately want to leave a review. I had the vegetarian fajitas nachos and it was perfect. I usually want sour cream but this was perfect without it. The veggies, beans and cheese were evenly distributed, fresh snd flavorful. My husband ordered the stuffed poblano peppers with chicken, rice and refried black beans. He was impressed as well and the black beans may be the best refried beans I've ever had. Discovered a real gem today--Las Margaritas Mexican restaurant. We found it from a Yelp review as we hunted for a place on Shelbyville Road, and were not disappointed. My wife and I ordered the burrito al carbón, while our daughter got the carnitas. We also had cheese dip for the chips. The cheese dip was excellent, with some chorizo and sweet peepers in it. Burritos were very tasty, but the winner was the carnitas plate--very tender and delicious. What struck us was the "cut above" presentation, and the obvious attention to detail.
