Was Visiting Whitewater for a couple of days and looking at food choices-well a bit was left to be desired for options as I am not a fast food foodie. While at the university, I asked around and Taco Fresco and another Mexican Restaurant came up over and over. I went to the other restaurant first and didn't get the vibe to walk in. Came back and decided to try Taco Fresco. Walked in and liked what I saw. Unfortunately they were closing that evening for a private party at 630p and I arrived at 615p so non in-house dining. BUT, they stepped up to the plate (no pun) and said I could order my food for take out, fine with me. I ordered three tacos, fish, steak and chorizo. I was not disappointed- the fish was my absolute fave, steak next fave, and well, the chorizo one was just okay. The chorizo taco would have been better if some Cotillo cheese was on top .. it needed cheese. Two out of three- good!! Everything else was very good, chips, guacamole and salsa, spot on.. This restaurant has simply amazing food. The entrée meats for the tacos bowls and burritos, are boldly and sometimes surprisingly seasoned. The Asian taco/bowl/burrito is full of contrasting but complementary flavors. my all time favorite here. All of the meats and seafood seem fresh and when they run out of one, that item is done for the day. I love their soups, which are often made from what is available at the local farmers market that week. Service is quite friendly with only a couple of visits to qualify you for a warm welcome as a "Regular". On a recent visit, when I inquired whether they had plain white rice for my sick dog, I was presented with a take home dish of fresh made one ingredient rice and some boiled chicken to be sent home for my less than perky pet. Great service! They were so sweet about my special diet request, and it came a little earlier than expected too. Every restaurant always messes my order up, but they got it right! By far my favorite Mexican place in all of Wisconsin. I've eaten here at least a dozen times already. Firstly, there's the food here. The food isn't just reasonably priced; I feel like I'm robbing those poor sweet people every time I go there. The food (especially for the price) is some of the best Mexican I've ever had in my life, and I grew up in a Hispanic household! (Oh, my mom would kill me for saying this!) They always use the freshest ingredients. It takes a little longer than I'd like for the food to come to my table, but once it's there it's TOTALLY worth it. Also, they're daily specials are always super creative, and totally delicious! The special that I had was a pork burrito with pineapple mango salsa. So exotic, but easily one of the best things I've ever eaten. I also recommend the Steak Fajita Tacos and the Chorizo Burrito. And if you get something to drink that isn't Mexican pop, agua fresca, or their fresh-squeezed lemonade, I may have to appear randomly and slap you. Next, there's the service. The staff is pretty young. They're not the most talkative, sociable people, but they're beyond friendly and they put in a lot of effort to make sure your experience is enjoyable. There's a particularly young looking fellow I always see there with long hair and glasses, and he's one of the most polite people I've ever met. Finally, the atmosphere. The walls are painted lovely bright colors, and they're adorned with guitars, pictures, and other various decor that gives the place an exciting yet classic feel. The music is modern and fun, and not typical at all for a Mexican restaurant, but it gives the place a very chill feel. As far as seating, I would recommend avoiding the benches against the wall. They look really comfy with their cute decorative pillows, but it's actually quite uncomfortable to sit there. Grab a table if you can!! read more

This is the best taco place in town! The food is fresh and cooked to perfection. They have great hours and fast delivery as well. There is inside and outside seating when it is warm outside. They also allow dogs outside which is a huge plus! read more

Disappointed with the customer service. We attempted to make an online order on Eatstreet. Was not able to make my shrimp order into a 'bowl' online. I called the restaurant itself to inquire and was told: "well did you try calling Eatstreet?". We were then told we could order over the phone, but even that each of our orders would have a delivery charge. When online- it's only 1 delivery charge. We ended up choosing not to order. Disappointing that they were not willing to work with us and we were having our orders delivered to the same location. I generally enjoy the food here, but this has changed my mind about supporting this business, unfortunately. read more

People with food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities, beware! Waitress was unable to comprehend or accomodate my needs, even though they jad a decent number of safe foods on the menu--just not listed all in one menu item. Finally brought the manager to our table. He arrived in a rage, waving his arms wildly, yelling that he was busy and had no time or interest in catering to our "ridiculous" demands and that we should go home and make our own food that I can eat. Well, duh, that's what we do 99% of the time, and that's what we did after he told us to leave and never come back. Truly the most unpleasant experience we've had at a restaurant anywhere. I used to eat here at least once a week, but after poor encounters with the owner, I no longer support Taco Fresco. I'm not one to sit and call people names, but I've never met a more pretentious, inconsiderate man in my entire life. He has no respect for other businesses in the area, even small businesses like his own; I would know because I am a server at one that he completely disrespected MULTIPLE times. Great food, terrible delivery. Apparently an address doesn't mean anything to a driver so when I am working and can't answer my phone they just leave instead of coming to the room thats on the address. Second time ordering, first time the guy was on the phone and just ignored me, but actually delivered to the right spot, now they can't even deliver correctly. Every time I come to whitewater I stop at taco fresco. I love the environment service and of course the food.

We stopped here for a quick lunch while out for a motorcycle ride. The happy hour is a great deal, and the food is reasonably priced. More importantly though, our meal was DELICIOUS. Our favorite was the green chile pork tacos - so juicy and tender! Along with their excellent homemade horchata, it was a fantastic meal. We will be back! read more

Cute little place with a cool vibe, menu is comparable to what one mind find at a trendy urban food truck. Very fresh and tasty ingredients. Everything is served ala carte so you can try a few different tacos. They have the usual suspects chicken and beef, but also have a good variety of veggie options as well as fish tacos. The name does not lie...they made everything fresh to order, here. The only thing that would have pushed them over the top would have been homemade tortillas. Seriously good, unique food. Nothing seemed to be pre-made, with the exception of the salsa, but that would be expected. Ceviche - fantastic. Asian-style beef taco - so good. Pork with green chilies taco - yum. Really great fresh ingredients, including a seasonal sweet potato taco! I tried three of the fresh tacos off the menu and they were amazing. My partner, however, has the nachos which left something to be desired. The chips were store bought, which might have been forgivable had they not been topped with Velveta and canned salsa. The regular menu is awesome, just step up some of the sides and this place could be perfect. Nice atmosphere, our server was very kind, and the prices were nice for the fresh and tasty food. Whitewater is full of restaurant surprises. This cute little Mexican restaurant had good music (reminded us of bars when we were in college), pleasant decor, and very good food. We really liked the Asian steak taco and the Southwestern chicken quesadilla, both very flavorful, the steak taco with a little kick. The shrimp taco was fine, but missing something - salsa, a marinade, something to make it less bland. My husband liked the chorizo taco but one of the herbs wasn't to my taste, so I let him eat the whole thing. The guac was good and even had the occasional bit of spicy pepper in it. The agua fresco that I had was basil seed green tea, and it reminded me of the pineapple Jaritos or Juicy Fruit gum, only more subtle. I liked it more and more as the meal wore on. A good choice for pretty, interesting Mexican food. read more

Excellent food and service. Possibly the best quesadilla I have ever had. My husband ordered a burrito bowl and we were both shocked by the enormous chunks of meat that it comes with. They don't skimp on meat! I especially enjoyed their guacamole and my husband loved their green and chipotle-ranch salsa. Everything was very fresh and we were told that they make 99% of their menu from scratch. The only bad thing is that they are not closer to where we live. When you walk in no one tells you where to go or what to do. After a few awkward minutes of standing another couple told us they just seated themselves. 10 minutes later our order is taken. The place is dirty and you can see the cook touching all the food with his bare hands. The tacos themselves were good but the steak was very tuff. They gave a lot of food which was also good. Occasionally, you eat at a place where you know the ingredients make the meal. This place is one of them. In fact, the last time there I was actually blown away. It has a nice open window where you can shout compliments at the chef, who nails it. The waitstaff has been pretty good, but I suggest going off hours as service slows down when there are more than a few tables. Whatever they did since the reopen... Keep doing it. Way better than my first visit, which would have been a solid three stars. Hopefully the service stays consistent... That is the only potential weakness I see in the future.
