El Cocinero is home cooking. Cooked well, large portions, filling. We split #2; two enchiladas, beans, rice and a tostada. I sit in my cushy Prairie City Hotel room chair - I am filled up. Should have walked a mile or two, or not ordered the Tres Leches cake and coffee. This is a former town hangout. Ranch brands decorate the sidewalk , booths and carpentry. They can be looked up on Google Lens. Prairie City is a small, quiet town,on it's way back up with new generations. We sat ourselves at a booth on the very left of the diner. It was probably one of the only booths where the seating wasn't all messed up. We were instantly greeted and given menus. I did creep on their online menu this morning but it was good to see what I might miss. I got the country breakfast. It had two eggs, 5 slices of bacon and I opted for fresh fruit instead of the hashbrowns. The eggs were cooked perfectly, nice and yolky in the middle. The fruit was super fresh! It was still on the unripe side but still sweet. The bacon was ok. It was slightly overcooked in the middle and chewy on the ends. It was quite the experience eating here. The servers are really nice and really good at making sure your coffee cup is always full! By the time we left, there was a good crowd of people coming in. It was cool to experience Baker's local diner. It was neat dining here with all the locals.

The front-of-house ignores the ding when the orders up; you stare idly at food that might be yours, but nobody is picking it up, nobody is delivering it to your table, and it ends up there later, cold. After complaining about something completely avoidable, the servers take it back to the kitchen, not realizing you are right there listening: Server: They say it's cold Cook: That's because it was sitting there forever I'm guessing this is just a gift for people passing through who maybe don't tip well. Sorry, I live one town over. My tip was good because I don't rip off servers, but given how bad your service was, think about how much better that tip might have been if you had exercised any care whatsoever. For the cooks, keep doing what you are doing, hope someone gets to appreciate it.
