Taco King on Boniface
Mina M.

Came in to grab lunch for the hubby and I to go. Haven't been to this particular taco king before so thought I would give it a try. First thing that hit my nose walking through the door was cleaning solution, like pinesol yuck, not what I want to smell walking into a restaurant. The first one d is always great, I love their burritos. I got the burrito deluxe and my hubby had the Mexican steak tacos. Both delicious. Their home made salsa is the bomb. Anyway, good food glad it was to go though.

3.95 taco

3.95 per taco ? All it had on it was cilantro, and the meat was lightly seasoned little to no flavor. The service was fine ,but food is over priced.!!

Secret hidden pile of items I picked out of my food... That I would rather not show you... Ick!

I tried this location. Normally we eat at the Tudor location, but I passed by here while hungry. If I had not been familiar with the Tudor location, I would have written off Taco King completely based on my experience! I ordered the tostaditos with chicken and a side of rice. I got what I expected... Heated chips with a bunch of stuff on top, but the quality just was not there. Guacamole was a little brown. I definitely got the impression that they may pull their chicken from Costco rotisserie birds... Not a bad deal, but it seemed like the kitchen let too much of the carcass end up in the meal! Dark patches of the bird I would never eat at home. I picked around those places on my plate. There ended up being too many things I found in my food that I did not feel comfortable eating... So I transferred the "bad" yucky items to a different plate. This worked okay... Until I chomped into a bone with rubbery gristle! I looked both ways and spit it out. Then, of course, I couldn't stand to look at it... So I covered it with a napkin and tried to keep eating. Needless to say, I couldn't do it. The rest of the meal was filled with distrust. I don't know about you, but I want to feel safe when I eat. Bottom line: skip this location.

Chimichanga, and carne asada taco combo

The wife and I came here for dinner and we were welcomed by super friendly staff that were very helpful. I love all of the paintings on the chairs and tables and backs of the booths. They had so many options to choose from. And we got our food really fast by the time we got our drinks and sat down the food was finished and coming to us. The horchata was great. I will definitely be coming back here.

Birria tacos

I wasn't even sure of what I wanted, (birria tacos) and I had to google it but they had them and they were pretty delicious. I waited until I got home to eat them so my rice got cold and one of the tacos was a little bit soggy but I imagine if I could eat right away it would have been even more delicious:)

This was supposed to be a carne asada taco

Not so good. I'm part Mexican so I know Mexican food well. Ordered carne asada and got something I wasn't sure of. Where I come from carne asada tacos are the meat, cilantro, onion and a wedge of lime to squeeze over it on a corn tortilla. This had the meat right although it's on a flour tortilla with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. If I wanted that kind of a taco I'd have visited a chain restaurant. Not authentic. Also noted that the cooks were talking about a patron in Spanish and cursing her out and she was completely oblivious. Things like these are probably why there were only 2 other patrons there. Won't be back.

After the bone removal surgery this was her enchie!

This was my first visit to this location and unfortunately my take out experience was quite bad. The chicken enchilada had very dangerous bones in it and the refried beans were inedibly salty. Unfortunate, as I have had good experiences at the other locations around town. Probably won't revisit this store.

Amazing food, fast and friendly service, and reasonably priced. Plenty of workers running around making the food and bringing it out. Reminds me of mom and pop Mexican restaurants back in California.

Not custard! looks all grainy and over cooked!

Excellent food, great value, and always friendly service. Try their special tacos or torts. Their salsas are fresh too.

Had lunch here with some friends and ended up with a story we'll be laughing about for a long time…read more There was a bottle of hot sauce on the table called "357 Magnum" (about 1 MILLION Scoville ). We thought it was regular hot sauce... so naturally, I absolutely drenched my burrito in it. Big mistake. HUGE. This is to be asked for by customers lol... and it was left out by mistake... One bite in and it felt like I got maced straight to the soul Tears pouring, coughing, face on fire--we couldn't even eat our food because it was that insanely hot. Honestly, it was next-level pain... but also kind of hilarious once we survived it Here's the part that really matters: the owner handled it like a pro. He apologized sincerely, took full responsibility, and didn't even charge us for the meals. That kind of customer service is rare and says a lot about the people who run this place. Owner is amazing and thoughtful... really great people there Accidents happen--but great businesses make it right, and they absolutely did. Awesome food, great atmosphere, cold beer , and genuinely good people. We'll definitely be back (just... maybe staying away from the 357 Magnum next time ). Thanks again for making it right and giving us a story we won't forget!

Terrible. The enchiladas were OK. The coffee was the color of tar. When I opened the tiny container of half-and-half, the contents were solid and plopped into the coffee. I fished out the solid mass with my spoon and called over the waiter. No apology. I think he then brought back the same coffee, new mini moo-cows. Really terrible dining experience. To top it off, there was an empty plastic vodka bottle on the ground by the front door.

I usually wouldn't eat Mexican food in Alaska those two don't really go together in my brain being from California but I wanted to give it a try anyway lol I ordered the Cilantro Shrimp Molcajete and some chips and salsa on the side. First I will say I don't see why certain restaurants charge for chips and salsa it should be free in my opinion. The salsa lacked flavor and was more sweet than anything. (I asked for the spiciest salsa they have) and the order was $8.. I get it for the size I was surprised but that salsa wasn't good. Moving on to the main dish tho we have the Molcajete which was really good in my opinion. It came out SIZZLING! and the size of it wasn't what I was expecting. So if you're hungry I would def get one of those entrees ! The flavor of the fajita mix was good and the amount of shrimp you get was super filling. That dish was about $38 with the shrimp. The bartender was nice and asked me if I was doing okay a few times and also made sure my water was filled which was great he seemed really knowledgeable of all the good food recommendations and was pretty quick with service so employees were cool ! All in all I enjoyed my early dinner in a nice place that played good Latin music and I liked that it's walking distance from my hotel. I would eat here again one day and try some of their tacos next because I hear they are pretty good. I would say they need to just make the chips free because the are NOT worth $8 lol like at all but other then that decent place.

Yes the menu will be a bit challenging and they may disappear after serving you.. ;) but it's necessary for what they deliver. While the mole sauce was delicious, the chicken thighs I received were so small and bony, my rice lacked flavor and the beans were very soupy. My chips were like the little broken pieces at the bottom of the bag making it hard to scoop any decent amount of salsa into them. For almost $30/plate I was anticipating more protein, bolder flavors and better quality. I want to give them another chance, but sometimes first impressions are lasting impressions. Service was friendly but waitstaff were busy so not as attentive. Ambiance is what you'd expect from a hole in the wall.

Like they were frozen, thawed and froze again. The sauce they simmered it in wasn't good and I'm convinced helped overcook them to a rubbery consistency. My steak was fine, but was well done vs medium rare like I ordered. I prepared myself that it likely wouldn't be cooked right, but I expected at least a little pink. I know it's not a steak house, but they cook steak for other items so I figured I'd be okay. My partner said his ranchero steak wasn't very good. He only ate it so I wouldn't feel uncomfortable eating while he waited. The meat wasn't very good he said, tasted old. He said the sauce wasn't very good either. For the rise in prices of things quality has gone down. They haven't done much for improvements - my seat had a big gash in it. Unfortunately after being a customer for many years I don't see myself returning here after 3 strikes this year of poor quality food at an inflated price. I think they should consider cutting their menu in half and really focusing on making quality dishes.
