We saw people give positive remarks about your food, and so as lovers of Mexican food and coming from the N.E. we were excited to try a new Mexican place! The service was horrible - she didn't smile, she basically came up to the table and asked us what we wanted. Then when we said it was our first time and we needed some time to look, she walked off. No personality whatever throughout. The margharitas were so bland, full of juice and LUKE WARM - for 20.00 - that we ordered an extra shot - which she forgot until she stopped by 15 minutes AFTER our meal already came. The food was terrifically bland as heck. Nothing was seasoned well at all. We asked for the manager, and one said he was one of them. He was basically useless. He didn't apologize. He came back to our table and wanted to see if we wanted something else, this is after waiting forever for our first food. He didn't offer to take off anything, not that would allow - but it's called great customer service, which this place sorely also lacked. Then, clueless, asked if we wanted to wrap up our food that we did NOT like. The fajita was dry and hard - chx, steak, shrimp and over the top fried cod. No flavor in either rice or beans. Enchalada with chicken was so bland and boring. The sauce on top seemed like a tomato sauce from a can. Service/food/drinks were all bad. Ate here recently and was disappointed. I had a wet carne asada burrito. For me, the red sauce that covered the burrito was sweet and then the actual burrito packed good flavor. For me the burrito was just boring and I would have been better off going to Taco Bell. The staff is very nice. I will say that the air conditioning works really well, which I appreciate, but others might find the restaurant cold. For me, this is just okay Mexican food. Staff is so friendly! I dined here for a Friday happy hour and was impressed. This local gem is in plain sight and always packed. I had the hh margarita and it was a decent size and flavorful. Of course they have complimentary chips and salsa. I loved their salsa. It was sweet and a bit spicy. Just like I like it. The restaurant serves your typical Mexican food, including burritos, tacos, chori platos, chimichangas, steaks, and quesadillas. They also have the savory adult beverages that you find in Mexican restaurants including signature margaritas. The staff there were very friendly and helpful. I ordered the chori tropical. It came with rice and refried beans. They prepared it very quickly. It was on my table about 5 minutes after I ordered it. I must say it was fresh hot and delicious. This was my go to spot across the Woodrow Wilson bridge, until I got food poisoning UGH.... They have $5 margaritas until 7 or 8 pm. Those little frozen margaritas will sneak up on you so don't sleep on them. The food is good and they have daily specials for each day of the week. Not to mention the tiny lady behind the bar is very sweet and always welcoming. I hate that I caught food poisoning after having steak and chicken tacos. I've been thinking about El Paso ever since I visited last week! I've had a lot of burritos in my life, but the Hermosa Super Burrito and El Paso is without a doubt my new favorite. Unlike anything I've tried before, this burrito had pork with pineapple and grilled onions, along with the expected fillings. The flavors complimented each other so well! Even better was the sheer size of this thing. I like to eat, and this burrito lasted me three meals. Pictures do no justice to how "super" this thing really is. The true reason I wrong this review is for the service, however. Jose Resino was absolutely wonderful. He anticipated our needs and was so personable. I've never written a review for a server before, but Jose did THAT good of a job. I unfortunately don't live in the area, but the rest of my party returned just a couple days later hoping to be served by Jose again. Coming here for dinner with some co workers, I didn't really have real expectations, but if I did they would have been completely met. Anyways the hostess quickly greeted and got us on a wait and it didn't take very long to be seated on a Friday dinner rush in a packed restaurant and we had a party of 5. While waiting I was able to visit the bar and snag a Corona Rita. VERY Large drink so far warning, but pretty good nothing crazy to report there. The food was easily the star of the show. We weren't instantly sat with two baskets of chips and salsa and the salsa was easily some of the best salsa I've had while eating eat. It tasted fresh and made daily in house. I wouldn't even be mad to go there just for drinks and chips and salsa. We also order chips and queso for the table and I also equally surprised how delicious that tasted. I wish it was just a touch thicker, but it toasted so good and a unique hint of fresh baked soft pretzel taste coming through. Best way i can describe that. Highly recommend if dinning in. They also give you plenty of queso to pour over your food if you choose to do so. For my main course I got 3 pork enchiladas with the 3 different sauces you can get on top. The food came out hot and ready in a very timely manor, on a busy Friday afternoon so props to the kitchen staff as well killing it back there. I was considering order the diavlo shrimp but she suggested the shrimp faijtas and she would provide the sauce on the side. A suggestion I was happy to agree to. When my meal arrived, as typical of mexican restaurants came piping hot on a cast iron plate. The peppers, onions, and large shrimp all tasted great. The diavlo sauce was good, not that spicy, but also salty tasting. Nonetheless, I still finished the sauce with my tacos. The accompanying plate of beans, rice, sour cream and guac met the industry standard. Nothing bad about it, but nothing that wows you. Great food, but a bad dessert! My wife and I tried 4 new dishes! This is the third location that we visited out of the five El Paso restaurants that the Gomez family owns. We have found good dishes at each location. The desserts have been good, but not on this visit. We went on a Saturday at 4:40 pm. The main dining room was booked for a large party, so we were seated in a small section with 7 booths. We were given the food menu. We asked to see the drinks menu. Their drinks are pricey. We picked 4 dishes that we hadn't seen before. 1) Super Guacamole Loco Avocados, tomatoes, onions, seasoning, fresh jalapeño slices, and fresh lime juice combined together with grilled bacon and shrimp. Served in a molcajete (rock bowl) with tortilla chips. The avocado was simply mashed avocado with some salt. The bacon was finely chopped and cooked well with the right amount of saltiness. The small shrimp were peeled and deveined. They were tender and fresh tasting. This dish had a well-rounded flavor from the variety of fresh ingredients and seasonings along with savoriness from the bacon and shrimp. This is a unique and scrumptious approach to guacamole! 2) Gomez Hermosa Burrito It was filled with carnitas, grilled onions, grilled pineapple, rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Topped with red sauce, boom boom sauce, cheese, queso fresco, and cilantro. It was a huge burrito with plenty of tender pork that shredded apart easily. The pork flavor and savoriness were light. No matter, because the combination of the cheeses, sauces, onions, and everything else made this dish incredibly flavorful. It had spiciness, some saltiness, some tomato acidity, umami from the pork and cheeses, some herb and spice flavors, and enough sweetness to balance the acidity and salt. The flavor profile was deliciously complete! I couldn't ask for more. 3) Camarones Fundidos Grilled shrimp with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, green peppers, and queso dip on a hot fajita skillet with sides of rice, mashed beans, and 3 tortillas. The tortillas were soft and slightly stretchy with a typical taste. The shrimp were tender, fresh, large, peeled, and deveined. The vegetables were a little too soft from overcooking, but they were fresh with a good grilled flavor. This dish is basically a shrimp fajita dish with some queso dip at the bottom. Make sure to mix the queso into the dish to give it some cheese and spice flavors. I love fajitas, and this had everything I wanted with an added touch of tasty queso. 4) Sopapilla Deep fried tortillas tossed in cinnamon and sugar. Covered with drizzles of honey, chocolate syrup, and caramel. Served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, candy sprinkles, and maraschino cherries. The tortillas were flat, chewy, oily, and stale instead of puffy, light, and fresh. The ice cream was typical in texture with a weak vanilla flavor. The rest was typical. These are the WORST sopapillas we have ever had in both taste and texture!! The service was polite, helpful, responsive, and relatively quick. The dining area was old but relatively clean looking. The restrooms were the same. The decor is not what brings people here, it's their reputation for great tasting Mexican food. As long as they avoid making dishes like the Sopapilla, they are definitely worth a visit. We'll visit again because they make some of the best tasting food in the DC area, and we don't think one mistake should ruin everything. read more

I ordered the Abuelita Soup and was curious about the size difference between small and large. Gerson humorously explained that the small was large, and the large was extra-large--so I went with the small. When the soup arrived, I was shocked at how generous the portion was for just $8! The flavor was rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious. I can only imagine how massive the large size must be! My mother ordered the Special Tacos, which were packed with fresh ingredients and bold flavors. Meanwhile, I went all in with the Spicy Burrito featuring Flaming Cheetos and extra queso. It was absolutely delightful, but definitely a challenge to finish in one sitting--I had to take the rest home, and I wasn't complaining! Beyond the amazing food, the restaurant also offers daily specials that are unbeatable for the price--especially in today's economy. I was really excited to try out El Paso as I went after receiving a really high recommendations, but unfortunately my expectation wasn't met. My boyfriend had the carne asada tacos and unfortunately the meat wasn't flavorful and was very dry. The accompanying rice was also really dry as well. The serving grace was the amazing service.
