Even though it was peak lunchtime on a Friday they weren't overly busy. I absolutely love Taco Mama and this location is super convenient to work. Another Taco spot checked off the list and one we will have to remember when we are on way back home from PCB in future trips. Build your own tacos, mix and match and as many toppings as you want. The sample queso, salsa and quac was on point too! Service was outstanding, was welcomed in, asked if we have ever been then got the run down of menu options. We stopped off expressway to get Zaxby's, so glad we found this place instead! Nice decor Going on with plenty of seating. While the customer service was above and beyond, the food was the complete opposite. The corn tortillas were cold, the meat was cold, and my taco was coming apart, making hard to enjoy. The steak was cut up into big pieces, making it hard to take a decent bite. The flounder fish was overly salted and also cut up into big pieces. There were too many toppings, especially tomatoes. Sometimes, less is more. I will not be returning to this establishment, it was so disappointing and over priced. read more

Excited to see a Taco Mama in Gardendale. This location lived up to the name and the staff were helpful and polite. I ordered the nachos with pork as I have done from other Taco Mama locations. These were delicious as always and the serving size was enormous. I ate as much as I could and was just barely able to fir the rest into a standard sized to go box. While I think this establishment is geared for the masses, it just wasn't for my wife and I. For the price point and what we received, I just do not believe it was worth what we paid for. We were greeted by very nice staff that was friendly and enthusiastic. We were seated outside and the staff checked on us multiple times in a friendly manner. It was the food that was the letdown. My burrito was loaded with meat on the top and half way down there was no meat - only rice and beans were left on the bottom. My wife's quesadilla was cooked good and the chicken was moist. We ordered a side of guacamole in which there was little cilantro, no chunks of avacado, no tomatoes, and no onions. Obviously this is personal preference on our part. We also ordered a side of cilantro lime rice. There was no flavor of cilantro or lime in the rice. The side of street corn had to be the most disappointing thing we had. The corn was over cooked, the cheese tasted fake, and the sauce they had put in the cup was apparently used in excess to cover up the flavor of the actual corn. Is this one of the better places in the area for American Mexican food....I would say one of the better. Is it appealing for most, I would say yes. Is it for my wife and I, no. I would rather drive 20 minutes to Birmingham and go to Little Donkey. The people and service were 5 star, the food was not for what I paid. I wish the business the best and I am glad to see business like this coming to Gardendale. read more

When this place opened there was an absolute flood of activity for the first few weeks. Line was out the door around peak times. Now that the novelty has worn off a bit I dropped in to check it out. Nice kid greeted me as I walked in and offered to go over the menu when I mentioned it was my first time at Taco Mama. I ordered the cheesy beef tacos with a side of queso and included chips and salsa. With a drink that comes to just over $16. Several different staff members stopped at my table to ask if I needed anything and offered to refill my drink, take trash away, etc. I'd rate the service here as EXCELLENT! Because of this I will try it again. Maybe my choice wasn't representative of the rest of the menu... or at least that's my hope. The meat in the tacos was extremely fatty and there was a pool of orange fat under them in the tray. The queso dip (white cheese) was good, but not outstanding. read more

Visited here tonight from out of town. Food was good but the service was exceptional. So much so that my wife felt the need to reach out to the manager and express our gratitude for the service. After waiting for over a month for Taco Mama in Gardendale to open, I had the shrimp Tacos with anchor chili slaw on one and seracha slaw on the other with soft corn tortillas. Street corn was my side dish. Both slaw tasted almost ruined unfortunately and I wasn't empressed with the corn either. Really the only edible items were the shrimp, the chips and salsa.
