At first I didn't know what to expect but let's just say I was satisfied with my overall experience at Taco Maya. It's cafe style type dining. You order your food at the counter and then receive a cafeteria style tray with complimentary chips and salsa and a # for your order so that the servers can identify you when your order is ready. You seat yourself and I was lucky seeing is how it was Cinco de Mayo. I found seating pretty easily and went straight for the chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and lightly seasoned and the salsa was warm with a hint of smoked pepper and roasted tomato. I liked the fact that the salsa came warm it was very delicious. They also have a salsa bar with various salsa to suit anyone's taste buds. I tried the avocado salsa which was really tasty. After waiting only about 10-15 minutes my order came out which was perfect timing considering all of the delivery orders they'd had as well as the patrons flowing into the lobby while I was waiting. I opted for the shrimp tacos and the chicken tinga. I'm a really big fan of chicken tinga but in comparison to some other places I tried this one while it was still good lacked the flavor and juiciness of the chicken. Considering all the toppings loaded onto it I wasn't as excited about the tinga as I was the shrimp taco. Man oh man! I'm not a huge fan of shrimp tacos but these were amazing. Top it off with the avocado salsa and IT'S A HIT! The beans and rice weren't anything to wow about but they were both flavorful and I like the beans not covering my other food and the tiny tortilla shells in which it comes in. I also had the strawberry margarita which comes frozen. Not certain wether or not it's a mix but at first I was a little disappointed as it seemed there wasn't any liquor at all in the margarita. That was until I was half way through and I started to feel a slight buzz. The staff was friendly and greeted everyone who entered. I also noticed how attentive they all were in clearing tables and making sure they were clean and ready for the next guest. All in all. $15 for dinner and a drink wasn't a bad and I for sure will be back to visit. read more

I am a vegan. One of the employees here assured me one of the cheeses they used was vegan. I came back the next day and a different employee told me they don't have any vegan cheese and that it was not vegan. Their employees should not be trusted regarding menu contents. First of all, when it comes to the food, I must say that Taco Maya has the BEST tacos I've ever had. I was living in South Loop for the summer and forced all of my friends, colleagues, neighbours to go check it out and they were also incredibly impressed with all of the food and the selection. The Horchata is always perfect, the cocktails are delicious and the atmosphere always feels great. The thing that stands out the most to me about this place is the customer service however. After visiting Taco Maya at least once a week, I genuinely felt like the staff was family. They are always so kind, so professional and accommodating. One particular employee, I believe her name was Khushali, really went above and beyond what is expected of a customer service rep at Taco Maya and even though the food is amazing, I found myself going back many times just to see Khushali. She always welcomes you with a great big smile and makes you feel like you're at a family member's waiting on some amazing tacos. Everything was fantastic. The frozen margaritas were super fresh and tasty, and are probably on my list for top 10 margaritas. The tacos were also fantastic. I had the American ground beef tacos with rice and beans and it was great. The refried beans were fantastic, they were topped with cheese and they tasted sooooo yummy. The rice was also very good. They also give you chips and salsa, and there is a salsa bar in the back of the restaurant. The service was also very friendly and fast. Taco Maya has become my GO TO taqueria since I discovered them.Definitely have been enjoying their tacos.The downside is that they are located right next door to the gym I go to so now I have to jackup my workouts.lol.They have a great selection of delicious tacos.Im a sucker for their shrimp tacos as well as the Mahi Mahi.I was VERY HAPPY when I discovered that they serve micheladas and use Big Mich michelada mix.Big Mich was the star of last years first ever MICHELADA FESTIVAL in Pilsen.They have been a huge hit in Chicago as well as the suburbs.Tuesdays are my favorite day to come to Taco Maya.Not only because its my day off but also because its TACO TUESDAY and I can get a FREE TACO with the purchase of two at regular price.And Tuesdays is also the day they have their special on micheladas!!!! $5 Micheladas on Tuedays!!!! Meh! I wasn't overly impressed or underwhelmed with this place. It was ok. My biggest dissatisfaction was with the meat. I ordered a steak taco salad and a grilled chicken taco. The steak was excessively chewy, dry, and flavorless. Now in the salad with all the garnishments, it wasn't so bad, but the salad could've been next level had the meat been prepared better. The chicken was also very dry, over cooked, and flavorless. I could've done without. I don't feel like you're missing out on anything here, but I wouldn't go as far as saying don't eat here. I ordered the supreme nachos with ground beef, two grilled chicken tacos on corn tortillas, both American and Mexican styles, and an elote in a cup. My mother ordered two tacos al pastor, also on a corn tortilla, a Horchata and my cousin ordered the steak fajitas. While waiting for the food, they gave us complimentary chips and salsa which was fire (literally) the sauce was hot, just the way I like it. Once the food arrived, I dove right into my plate, and so did everyone else! Every single bite was amazing, I was dancing in my chair of happiness from eating such great food! The only thing I can comment about was the fact that the elote was wayyy too cheesy so I didn't really finish it all, but it was still delicious! This place is amazing. We did delivery which came lightning fast. Every bite was delicious. Both our steak fajitas and a burrito were beautiful to the eye and tasted amazing. The freshly made chips that came with the guacamole were great, the side of rice was flavorful and little things like the beans coming in a little tortilla basket were unexpected touches. I came here for an event in celebration of Cinco De Mayo and was impressed by many things. 1. The staff was incredibly accommodating and gave us great service. 2. The food was out of this world!! I loved their vegetarian tacos specifically (I'm not even a vegetarian) and thought that their house margaritas and frozen drinks were extremely delicious and paired well with the Fino Tequila. 3. Not impressed. I recently tried Tao Madre and was overall disappointed with not only the food quality but also the value. I ordered 2 barbacoa tacos, beans and rice and queso and the bill was around $25. The barbacoa tacos had ok meat and the tortillas were bland. The queso blanco was the worst I have had in recent memory. it was like a cheese-ish flavored liquid. The chips that came with it tasted like burnt oil - I literally couldn't eat them they tasted so bad. The restaurant was clean and staff was welcoming. They do also have a salsa bar that had a nice variety and was well maintained. I might consider going again and trying something else if I was with someone that wanted to try it but not a good first impression read more
