AMAZING TACOS! Wow. It's no surprise that we would run into some good taco joints while in TJ but Taconazo really took us by surprise at how good they were. We were looking for somewhere to get street tacos from since our initial go-to shop was closed for the day. Luckily we ran into this place because it was delicious. You seat yourself down and wait for a server to come and take your order. The menu is written above the kitchen where you see the team working hard to prepare all the food for the restaurant, like a classic taqueria. Tacos here ranged from MXP25 - 45 depending on your meat of choice. There were a few words in Spanish that I had no idea what they were but we ordered, tried them, and fell in love. Their carne asada taco came with a big helping of guac and onions that really did it for me. I also loved their tripas taco and their adobaba. You're also provided with additional salsas to add (including ranch) to make your taco the best it can be for you. The open air style of seating made this a beautiful spot for lunch on a sunny day. You're entirely covered so there's no need to worry about deadly UV rays, but it's a treat to be able to enjoy tacos and people watch all at the same time. I decided to come to TJs and only eat at taquerias. I went to multiple ones and they're all really, really solid. Like 8 out of 10. I had only one complaint: at every place I went to there wasn't really a salsa bar. So all the tacos get served with lime and radishes which is cool, but I'm used to having a salsa bar with pickled onions, pickled carrots, different salsas, etc. If any one of these places had this, the tacos would have been amazing! I'm actually going to copy and paste this portion to all the places I went to then my 2nd para I'l go into detail on what I ordered. This place is newer than other taquerias in the city. Wow! I've been to their establishments before many moons ago, but when I visited this place on Tuesday...wow I had forgotten how delicious their tacos and other menu items were! Having scoured Santa Ana and Anaheim for the best tacos, Taconazo just makes things more difficult. I tried two of their tacos, along with a tostada, and was in taco bliss. It looks like a counter order place, but it's not. You walk in, get greeted by the friendly guy at the door, pick a table, and it's table service with a smile. The place was clean and had a vibe that was clearly quite cool by hipster standards, at least that's what I would think, not being one of those things. Asada: Every ingredient matters here, and makes for a fantastic taco. They don't try to slather on the guacamole to cover up the tough tasteless carne. Rather, the bits of meat alone are tender with deep flavor. One of the best asada tacos I've ever had. The guac is plentiful though, and very tasty. Chorizo Taco: Saleezataca! Pinkish with somewhat of a ground beef meets polska kielbasa texture, this was subtly sweet and flavorful. While this was my least favorite, it was an excellent taco. The others were just so good. Quesa Taco Vampiro with Cabesa: Fried tortilla tostada style, topped with melted cheese, a pile of tender melty cabesa, diced onion, cilantro, and a good dollop of green salsa. This was my favorite. The cabesa wasn't fatty at all, but just tender and very flavorful. Just loved this. I did add some of the salsa they bring on the side to add some heat. If you go, good luck with parking. Third time in TJ and these were the best so far, The Tripas well done we're so good I had to order more. Started with one Asada, one Adobada, one Lengua and one tripas well done for me. They amwere all good in their own way including different tortillas and salsas for each taco. Only thing I would change next time is Red salsa on my Adobada but everything else was Perfect. 3 day Tijuana trip, and we ate here twice. We tried every variation of the tacos over the two evenings. I loved the tongue, my friend wasn't a fan. As with most of these taco joints, the al pastor and bistek were always our favorites. Don't forget to ask for radishes and all the salsas to spice up your taco life. These are some of the best street tacos in TJ. I've been going here now for a while and always leave satisfied. Their Adobada (not pictured) are delicious. The meat has a bit of a crunch and the flavor is the right amount of spicy. The Saudero and Birria tacos are likewise noteworthy. Both have good flavors, though I think I prefer the Birria just a little more. The tortilla is fried slightly, which allows it to hold up better under the Birria. Gave the tacos more texture. The staff wasn't overly friendly or even inviting, however the space was very large. There were several TVs and the kitchen area is an open format where the cooks prep your food right in front of you. There is also an outdoors area that was covered in a tent like style. I was so disappointed and dissatisfied with the tacos I had just sampled when I saw Taco Nazo down the street we stopped because we heard all of the positive reviews and remarks. We purchased thirty-plus tacos and ordered additional tacos to go, the group I was with dined in and requested our take our order to be made at the end of our meal so we could take it back to the rest of our family and friends. The waiter was polite and diligent; however, in my opinion, they may have been good at some point in time and experienced some notoriety from the publicity on social media and Netflix but they definitely could do better. The taco servings are small, and the quality was just OK, nothing like what we had viewed on social media, in short, we all felt that we didn't have a great experience or left with the feeling or sense that we had just had a great culinary experience or taco. We all agreed we had all had better street tacos and although the tacos were freshly made because we could see the cooks creating them the meat was... well it tasted as if it wasn't all that fresh more like it had been reheated.
