Worst customer service I've ever received and rude and careless behavior from the staff so start off me and my girlfriend ordered through post mate and on post mate they have an section for for you to mention your allergies. Knowing the guacamole most likely had lime in it we left a message in the allergy section saying not to give it to us if it has lime in it seeing as my girlfriend is allergic to citric acid. So they put it in the bag cuss there are places that will make it fresh without lime for someone with an allergy. As she was eating it though she began to swell up and had to use her EpiPen and got to the hospital. I called the restraint and asked why they gave her the guacamole and she said she tore a note saying there was citric acid in the guacamole but she forgot to put it in the bag I then asked to speak to a manager and some named Blanca and said it's not our fault we didn't know about the allergy after finding out the other employee told us they new about the allergy and was sorry about not putting in the note she switched gears and said it's not our fault our manager said not to worry about people's allergies and that we send the food anyway cuss it's not our fault if something happens to them. At this point it was hard to keep my cool but I asked for a manager and she moved the phone away from her mouth to say some things in Spanish to another employee and I know some Spanish and knew some of what she was saying was foul language and she was insulting me and my girlfriend. She then said there will not be managers there for a couple weeks and not to call back or come to the store cuss it's not their fault and hung up. We have been eating here for years and usually really enjoy the food. Unfortunately, this last week I was home sick and I was in the mood for some nachos. When I opened the container at home, this was the most disgusting nachos I have ever seen! It was just a pile of chips with meat thrown on it covered in disgusting liquid nacho cheese. We had to remove the meat and throw the rest of it in the composting. So disgusting!!!! Note: This review is strictly on their Crispy Potato Tacos, as that is all I have had from here. Not the most authentic Mexican food around, but man.....they make a mean crispy papa taco. That perfect balance of salty crunch on the outside and pillowy soft inside to satisfy all the cravings. Service was friendly and efficient. 10 minutes for a pick up order during a weekday lunch rush is impressive. Another awesome deal is that you can help yourself to their chips and salsa bar. In fact, the salsas here are all delicious and make a great addition to anything you order. Maybe next time I will try the carnitas. read more

Seems like they try to impress, but failed. The positives: Taco shells and chips are very crispy. Portions are big. Chicken tacos are better than average. The negatives: Enchiladas, burritos amd salsa are way too salty. Had two to go items. A family member ate a few bites from the bean and cheese burrito and threw it away, saying it was too salty and tasted old. I got the chile verde...portion was huge, but I couldn't eat it. It was too salty and the pork was not tender enough. I took two bites and also threw the food away. The salsa itself was also too salty I had to eat a few chips by themselves. Maybe if the recipes were not as salty food would be better. Their chicken taco recipe is good. Their beef tacos are too dry. If they can fine tune the food here, it'll be better. The refried beans had a metallic taste; the chips were bland with no salt on them; the meat in the taco looked like a flattened hamburger and was poorly seasoned. I ordered 2 veggies and 2 fish tacos. At the time they were doing a deal so fish tacos were $2.50 each. I got one grilled and one fried, definitely came with a good sized fish inside. The veggie taco came with rice, beans, lettuce, salsa, guacamole, and cheese. Honestly it was giving salad over a tortilla vibes but it was super filling and packed with fresh vegetables! Taco Roco is rapidly becoming my favorite Mexican spot. It's not exactly fast food, and it's not a full sit-down experience, but the food is terrific! Plus, there's a Pokemon Go gym in the parking lot, so you can play while you wait. They have two patios now, one in front and one in back, plus an extended dining area in the parking lot due to COVID. They don't appear to be social distancing, but I was impressed with their cleaning game. I saw at least four employees clearing tables, sweeping and mopping, and cleaning the bathroom, all in the half hour we were there. That was impressive. The cashier was friendly, and we ordered quickly. I had three hard shell beef tacos, and my wife ordered a bean & cheese burrito. Her burrito was huge; it was easily over a pound. She plastered it with salsa from the salsa bar, and her only comment was that the "medium" salsa was, in fact, "mild." Otherwise, she liked the burrito as prepared, and took home over half of it for lunch. My tacos were likewise a solid portion. Served on a small tray, they were loaded with beef, cheese, lettuce and tomato. The beef is finely shredded and juicy, and hot enough for the last bite to still be warm. I will be having these again soon! I do wish they had Diet Dr Pepper. I see that Taco Roco is a local chain, so I will look forward to trying another franchise soon! read more

I had forgotten this little Mexican cafe was here, and was glad to reacquaint myself with their meals! My husband and I used to drop by here frequently for snacks when we were running errands around town. We love the Nautical Bean next door, so a coffee follow-up is usually in order after a tasty meal here. We were traipsing around on Christmas errands, and wanted a quick healthy meal. My husband wanted breakfast, and I was looking for lunch. Donald got the eggs with ham and hash browns, and I chose the grilled shrimp taco. We scooped up some warm chips in a bowl, and sat down to munch away on the chips, enjoying the bright and colorful atmosphere in the cafe. We could see lots of tables outside on the sidewalk, and rows of cars parked in front. We had parked around back, since you can walk into this cafe from the back parking. The meals arrived soon, and we were enjoying our fresh and flavorful dishes in minutes. I particularly liked my street-taco style shrimp taco, and the salad that came with his breakfast was very light and refreshing. We had an appointment in SLO that had been delayed and we were looking for a place close by for lunch. We had friends tell us this was a great Mexican restaurant. We were greeted by a very nice woman who answered all our questions about some of their items. We ended up ordering 2 orders of the Shrimp Soft Tacos. They were absolute delicious. They were generous with the shrimp and the salad on the shrimp was so yummy. Loved the dressing. Also came with really good beans and rice. Not bad. Not great. Average. Been here a few times because we can walk to get food when we do t feel like cooking. Now they've gotten price conscious on their chips and if you get take out you can't take the free chips you have to pay for them. But if you dine in, all the chips you can eat..,but there's no difference in meal price between dine in or take out. So if you dine in they have to clean your table wash the dishes, etc. so to me the logic doesn't work. Shredded beef tacos. I've been on a several year hunt to find decent shredded beef tacos since my go-to in San Jose changed ownership and bailed on the world's best shredded beef tacos. One disappointment after another, I almost gave up completely on ordering shredded beef tacos (especially since my awful experience at Los Compadres in Hayward recently.) Enter Taco Roco. My bro told me, "You gotta try the shredded beef tacos, they're like the old days." Pretty darned good! Now look, I'm having my doubts there will ever be a shredded beef taco as good as El Charro's SB taco (old family-owned restaurant near downtown SJ and probably not the El Charro you've heard of - and it changed ownership years ago.) Their tacos were loaded with savory shredded beef, stuffed in a crispy corn shell with really good (abundant) cheese sprinkles on top and rested on a bed of shredded lettuce - topped off with a ketchup-like red sauce - simply AMAZING! Back to Taco Roco...solid attempt at shredded beef tacos. If El Charro's tacos were 5 star, TR's are a solid 3 (I've yet to find anything over a 3, BTW.) Taco Rico has $1.75 tacos and $0.50 chips on Tuesday's! My friends and I came on Tuesday evening to a relatively empty restaurant that slowly got more busy as we ate our food. We ordered their tacos (carnitas, shredded beef, and tripa) and enchiladas. Our food came really fast and the staff were really friendly. Each taco came with a generous amount of meat. The beef taco came with lettuce and cheese, while the rest just came with onion and other garnishes/seasonings. I would say that the tripa was the best. It was crispy and well cooked with good seasoning. However, the beef and carnitas was a bit dry and the soft tortilla's flavor was too overpowering. My friend who got the enchiladas said that the chicken was also dry. Overall, Taco Rico was a good experience and have good portions per dish, but was average concerning the taste. Things changed for the worst! This has been one of our favorite places. It's changed for the worst! Chicken tacos . Not rocket science. They've been my usual choice. They are now making them out of a chunk of processed chicken stuffed into a tortilla. Awful! Mushy, colored "sear" marks on the fake chicken. My wife pulled it out and ate the lettuce and tortillas. A quick take out for me, however the restaurant itself is always full with happy patrons. The vibe is cantina and does a great job of separating you from the outside shopping center. The food is delicious and always hits the spot. I tend to stick to the carne asada burrito and tacos but they offer much more. They staff recognizes me using their usual, and offer a great variety of salsa and chips. Definitely recommend for a good meal. read more

This was my first time here and I'm impressed. I was looking for something small and simple. I stepped in and found a clean restaurant with a nice Mexican atmosphere. I've read some some of these reviews and I didn't see anything bad about what they were saying. I ordered just a bean and cheese burrito and Carnitas Sopes. I was expecting small, but it came huge. I liked their soda machine and the variety it offers. As for bean and cheese burrito, well, it's a bean and cheese burrito. At home I would of fried my beans in bacon fat, but that was the way I was raised. The sope was large, I never had it that large, it had loads of meat, cheese, beans and Masa. It was so filling I had to take half the burrito home. Customer service was great, the lovely ladies where very helpful with our needs and very polite, just remember to tip before you leave. Again I saw no issues with this restaurant, maybe it cleaned up after those harsh reviews. If I'm in the area I'll be back. In Santa Maria they have Taco Roco that I constantly visit mainly because they have a drive through and the food is great there too. So, that's my take. read more

Changed recipes? I stopped going to the other location on Los Osos Valley Rd because the food was not up to par with this location, and the salsa was WAY too spicy over there. I guess they brought the recipes and cooks over to this location now because I was so disappointed this time. I used to come here with my adult daughter and friends or to get my order to go on occasion as I did this Taco Tuesday. I ordered hard shell tacos, a cheese enchilada, and chips. First, the enchilada was very sad and sloppy compared to what I was used to here. It was like they took a little cheese, not as much as usual, slopped it into a tortilla loosely and unevenly, and slopped it over with sauce and a little cheese. Then the taco shells were not fully crisped, soft middles. They were filled a little less than usual, but there was plenty of meat. I ate it as crunch crunch squeeze, crunch squeeze, until the end. It was like they were thrown quickly into the hot oil to shape them then pulled out to stuff in a hurry, and the place wasn't even busy enough to justify sloppy preparation. That brings me to the last detail, the salsa bar. I usually enjoy the salsa here and put it on my food, as well as dipping my chips. In fact, that is the only reason I pay money for the chips on Taco Tuesday. Otherwise, I wouldn't even bother with the chips. They seem to have changed it because it was very very spicy. I cannot see how a family can give this to their children without the kids crying. I threw away the extra salsa I had, and didn't even finish the chips because I had no good salsa to dip them in. The chips were good, though. I am sorry to see this place go this route. Maybe they feel making things too spicy will attract a different clientele, and I wish them luck with this. On the other hand, maybe they will chase away the clients they had before they brought the cooks and recipes from the other location. I would have given it one star, but am not going to be so harsh in rating. I just hope someone there reads this and realizes they made a mistake by changing what was working for them. I live not far from this location, but will now have to find another location for my Taco Tuesdays. I used to enjoy coming here because it is well kept and good service. That is why I still gave 2 stars. Oh, and I noticed they changed the soda dispenser so their selection is way way down to nothing now. Maybe they took the good one over to the other location and are going to shut this one down or sell it. I go to Taco Roco every Tuesday like clockwork, for their fish taco specials. The service is excellent - the ladies have such beautiful smiles and dress impeccably. I ordered a sandwich and a soda they handed me a receipt wanted me to sign up on $177.30 I pointed this out to the cashier who brought in the manager the manager gave me $100 back and then had a point out to the manager that I'm not gonna pay $77.30 for a sandwich and a soda to which she responded well that's not what the cashier told me so having no faith in their ability to do the complex calculations of subtracting $17.73 from $77.30 I was forced to cancel my order in hopes that I could get out of there with my skin I still ended up leaving a two dollar tip since I tip in cash.
