I suggested La Cocina del Abuelo in downtown Allentown. I said parking is probably street but should be free on a Sunday evening, which it is. We walked in and were the only customers. There were a few to go orders/deliveries. God bless this woman, who was our server, but was also running the kitchen, & getting pick-up/deliveries ready. I asked about enchiladas as I didn't see on the menu. She said it's part of their "secret menu", which is always an interesting concept. I was looking forward to enchiladas, getting 2 chicken & 1 steak, which comes with rice & black beans. My mom got tacos, and my dad got steak fajitas. Considering this woman was doing everything, the service was pretty quick. We all enjoyed our food. It was a large mound of rice, which was delicious eating all. Black beans & enchiladas were pretty solid too. The server gave a business card with a discount for next time. My dad happened to see I think 25% off on a discount app he has, which the server had no issue accepting. But this is where the business & server really earns the 5-stars. She gave flowers to my madre (mom) wishing her a happy Mother's Day, which was very nice, and above & beyond any usual restaurant experience. The only negatives were the tables were a little small for up to 4 people, but we managed fine. Also, while the restroom was clean, they were out of paper towels. My dad had mentioned it earlier, but she was very busy; so I'll give a pass on that. Overall, I highly recommend La Cocina del Abuelo for the excellent customer service & great food.

We let our waiter know and asked for new glasses and cups. He brought us glass cups instead of plastic and all tasted the exact same, cleaning solution disgusting taste. We let the waiter know again, and opted for bottle water and glass bottle of mexican coke. The manager then came over and shared that this was an ongoing issue and suggested that it was the city and that they have bleach sometimes come thru or their water is dark and that there isn't anything they can do. What should be done is not sell fountain drinks or any drink and if it is the water which is used in all drinks and in food that should be a red flag for customers to be ingesting whatever this is. At the very least provide a disclaimer that drinks and food may be contaminated with whatever they believe it is.....and let the city know.

Id like to mention I lived in San Diego and the burritos in Allentown, Pa far exceeded any burrito found in the Golden State. I now live in Virginia Beach area and my love for Cali Burritos knows no distance. This is fundamentally wrong to me. All the Taco Kits at the grocery store come with a seasoning packet to add to the ground beef when preparing the tacos. I left unhappy, that's not to say I wouldn't try their burrito's. They looked good as seen on other patrons tables. I'm 70 years old and the theme of Cali reminds me of the 60's/70's. The decor, interior, and interior are psychedelic. Retro throwback to the hippie days. The staff reflects that theme - they came across in a kind weird way to me; but not in a bad way! Their is no shortage of happy campers enjoying their lunch (I went at 1PM). It seems like a cult following which speaks to the freshness and quality of the food served. I'm still unsure what was in the alleged tacos I ate. Lol!
