While passing through SLO we remembered having some tortilla chips that we absolutely loved and looked up the factory seeing it was open and less than a mile away. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We tried to sampler pack of each variety and enjoyed all of them immensely. They are sold by the case and we purchased a case of each along with their salsa and seasoning. Prices are very fair and everything is extremely fresh! This was a great souvenir of our drive up the coast, ideal to bring friends and family as well. The quality of the chips is excellent, perfectly seasoned! read more

Cultures have been cooking with this flavour enhancer for eons; my mama, back when she was cooking, always kept a bottle of aji no moto in the cupboard. Perhaps it's just a matter of time before Big Chip (Frito-Lay) will cast its eye on Taco Works but for now, I treasure the home-grown operation and the cooking of batches of these tantalising tasty totopos right here in California. They just have this pure corn essence that you rarely taste except maybe in house-made chips at select independent Mexican places. Muy sabor caliente deliciously addictive.. I wouldn't have it any other way. Taco Works has become a superb addition to my pantry go-to snacks. I find these chips to have excellent taste and freshness. I buy the chips whenever I go and visit San Luis Obispo which is where they're from. The chips have the right crispinest, perfect seasoning, perfect thickness and just the right size. With a delicious fresh taste, the chips will stay fresh and even hold up when microwaved with a ton of nacho cheese on top.I find that cannot stop eating them! I've never can find Taco Works anywhere else. Keep making the best chips ever. If you ever find yourself on the Central Coast, I recommend that you buy yourself some. Yaa for MSG! Let me just begin with my favorite part, and the issue most people have with these chips. I love flavor, and MSG helps to enhance flavors. MSG is fine to eat, unless you inject 100x the normal consumed amount directly into your brain. The whole 'MSG is bad' thing is so 1985 (seriously, that article was published in 1985. if you want to see the studies that show this is not a thing, hit me up), so it's simply not an issue. Moving on now, yea? Great chips, a great variety of flavors, and like Garrett pointed out they work on any type of food variety and are always a good choice. Something is wrong!! Been eating these for years. Found them at Vons again a few years ago after not seeing them for a few decades. The new chips were very good but not as good as they were years ago. Anyway my wife brought a six bag box home a few weeks ago. Wow thicker chips, not as crispy, almost no flavor. Not sure if this is just a bad batch or someone is tinkering with the recipe???? Maybe all the MSG comments are scaring you away from the original recipe. Yep, these taco chips have a distinct taste, it's own taste. I have bought bulk box from Costco and sent them as gifts to the East Coast and we have bought to save for my kids who lives out of state. I drive by the factory occasionally and when they do their frying on certain days you could smell from a mile away and theres been time when I drive around the factory while on cook day that I look for an office to where I can try and buy a fresh batch of hot taco chips. Don't try and use salsa with these chips because it would be defeating the Taco Works originality, these chips are to eaten by themselves! read more

I used to eat these tortilla chips a lot years ago. They were thin, crispy, seasoned to perfection, and so delicious! Today I bought a bag for the first time in a long time. My parents bought these chips for us growing up, and I love them just as much today. They are not easy to find in my area, but when I'm in my hometown, I always buy a bag! I bought a bag recently, and they tasted different.. thicker than usual, and not much if any of the flavoring. I wrote to the company to see if they had changed the recipe. They wrote back quickly and said no and apologized that I had a bag that was not up to standards. They said they would send a replacement bag which wasn't necessary, but was very nice. Not sure what has happened over there at Taco works, but they sure aren't the same as they used to be. The last couple bags I've had literally have no seasoning in them at all. Delicious! hard to find outside of SLO. I used to buy them at Winco in Chico, but then they stopped selling them and havent seen them since, except locally in San Luis. They make tortilla chips with extra MSG. the salsa version tastes a little like Doritos, but less cheesy, and not florescent orange. They are pretty fatty, but oh so tasty. and I'm not even a chip person. I googled it and according to an anonymous blogger, they sell these at Gene's fine foods in Saratoga. This is one of the finest products made in SLO CAL. I consider myself a chips connoisseur and let me tell you, these guys know what they are doing. I'm reading a few reviews mentioning MSG and I get it, growing up I was also part of the campaign against MSG and the so-called "Chinese restaurant syndrome", which, now I know is just bad science with a small dose of racism. MSG is naturally present in some foods like tomatoes and asparagus and some smart Japanese guy was able to isolate it to add that flavor enhancing feature to other types of food. Many "scientific studies" that investigated the issue of people feeding sick after consuming MSG were found to be flawed in methodology, making their conclusions useless. It makes total sense to me that a myth this big would still exist in the collective mindset of health conscious people, as the food industry is full of myths and superficiality. Don't believe me, just research the topic on your own and say yes to Taco Works chips, Pringles, and random Mexican seasoning! I grew up in Santa Cruz, Ca and grew up with Taco Works tortilla chips. They are hands down the most addicting chip around. That means a lot coming from me because I am an employee of frito lay and have been so for 17 years. No body, including frito lay, has ever come close to Taco Works chips ever!! The PERFECT chip to eat while drinking beer. I love the "salsa" flavored one, usually when I chill out with some friends, playing xbox or watching something while drinking beer these things go fast. They have a nice saltiness that goes well with cold beer. Not only that, but they're hella cheap. I don't know the price off the top of my head, but it's certainly cheaper than name-brand stuff. I'm only writing this review now because I'm drinking beer, eating a chip that kind of reminds me of Taco Works, and wish I had some Taco Works instead. These are the best chips for a few reasons. They are cheap. You can get a pretty large bag for like a buck. I used to buy them all the time at a liquor store that was right by where I used to work. They have great texture/crunch. I'm big on texture of food and these have are perfect. They have a crunch that would be a mix of a Dorito chip and a Mission Tortilla chip. I have tried finding them up here in the Bay Area or even order them online, but since it's a small company, I've had no luck. I guess when I go back to visit SLO, I'll stock up. read more

Important...Nobody has pointed out that this is NOT a store but a small warehouse with an office. They are NOT set up to be a commercial selling spot for a variety of product..we pull up and a real nice guy said we make the chips here I will see if we have some for you with this production. So out he comes with two bags of chips. The bags were warm like the chips were just made:)..He says he gets maybe 3-4 people a day from yelp that stop by. He sold the chips to us for a dollar a bag?..which was obviously great but made me wonder if this location is truly actively selling to the public on site. You know every now and again, I would like the opportunity to decide if a little MSG is bad for me, or coconut oil, which several societies have lived very long and healthy lives using for centuries, and centuries. These are simply the best tortilla chip made. Imagine a corn tortilla cut in half with a laser so the thickness is 1/2 that of a normal tortilla chip and you have THE best tortilla chip made.
