So in the last couple months I've ordered 2 cakes from the bakery. I picked up another one I…read moreordered today. They taste great but the decorating on the cakes is so poor it looks like a drunk oaf decorated them. There should not be cake crumbs mixed with frosting all over the sides. That's amateurish. The designs are very very poorly executed. A real mess. How about some staff training? Update. My adult daughter said the cake also didn't taste right. I thought it was more sugary taste than usual. Maybe missing vanilla flavoring. Idk. It's probably a mix anyway. I'm sure it not made from scratch. May 30, 2026.

Monday, 9AM is my weekly Costco trip, I should probably only go if I need something, because, and we all know this, you walk out with stuff you didn't intend on buying. Am I right? I've only been an executive member for going on 3 years now, the first year, I didn't go to Costco, but since retiring it's a weekly trip and usually there will be something on the Costco list we need. The SLO location is great for me, about 30 minutes from Paso, easily accessible, lots of parking, Costco gas and the reliable food court we have grown to love. I walk the store weekly, never in a hurry to get in and out, but the only time I've seen it really crowded was Thanksgiving week, 2025, but even then it was manageable once inside, it never felt crowded and the check out lives, including self check weren't a long wait. I feel the employees do a great job keeping the store stocked and clean, making it easy to navigate. I have use the optometry department, which was very easy, albeit a little bit of a wait to be served. They took all three of my prescriptions and I found a frame and a few weeks I picked my glasses up. Since then, they have repaired them once, no charge. If you need glasses, get them filled at Costco, so easy, good selection. Overall, I am happy with their selection, there are things I wish they would stock, miso marinated sablefish and Tejava being two of those items. It's nice to see some new items as I stroll the aisle and overall it's s great experience in SLO. Can't forget that hotdog meal on the way out, still a deal at $1.50!

We are big on bbq and cook outdoors just about every night. We were so confident, we used it on our (2) thanksgiving Turkey, all we used was the monkey spit- Nipomo style and mustard for our deep fried bird. We took it to the in laws, my father in law is a quiet kind-of guy, in fact he didn't eat when we did (awesome but quiet Vietnam vet) but he later called my husband (his son) asking all about it and what we used etc! He always makes taquitos with turkey left overs so since they had thanksgiving the day before, he had already made taquitos but we left the whole remainder of the bird there so (crossing my fingers) he makes more taquitos from out "monkey spit turkey"! Anyway I found this yelp site as I was searching where to get more so had to share how happy we are with it!

I had been following this brand for years but was never able to find it for sale. This last trip I found it at the Avila Barn. I bought their new "Swamp Mop" as it was a mustard based sauce that the family generally enjoys most. The sauce was indeed good, but at a whopping $15 a bottle (by comparison the MO's BBQ sauce right next to it was only $7). Needless to say it looks like I was the only person to actually buy a bottle of monkey spit there. Back to how difficult it is to find this stuff, one of the main issues is that their website is down. They also don't seem to have a list on facebook of who sells their product. That's not a good thing as I found it by chance. Now there was a vague posting on Facebook that they are opening up a new manufacturing plant and perhaps that means more product, more distribution, and lower prices. I look forward to trying some of their pepper based sauces on my next trip in the fall. - Obviously the price is an issue, and by selling it at boutique retailers the price will be totally unreasonable. Plus, when looking at the ingredients it appears that this sauce was just a mix of store-bought ketchup, mustard, and worcestershire sauce. Now it may be true that's how "authentic" Carolina sauce is made but at $15 bucks a bottle I'd expect all three components to be hand made from scratch. - New manufacturing plant is being built.
