5 Stars - Amazing Service! I came into Tacoma Bike to pick up some new tubes and a shifter cable for my bike. After checking it out, the tech let me know I actually needed a new derailleur. I asked if there was any chance they could install it that same day since I was hoping to ride with my wife the next day. Even though they were just minutes from closing and had other bikes to finish, the tech went above and beyond--he stayed a few minutes late to swap out the derailleur for me since it was a quick job. Oh my gosh, where do I begin? The manager was fantastic as I brought my bike in for a tuneup. It was like $150 Huffy from Walmart. This bike store tuned the bike up, adjusted everything, including the spokes, the brakes, the derailers, etc. This bike rides absolutely fantastic. I couldn't have asked for a better job. I needed a new Shimano rear wheel for my road bike and found one online that Tacoma Bike showed they had in stock. I called and spoke to a very nice and helpful employee and he checked to make sure they actually had one. He told me that they could get it shipped out the next day if I paid online that same day, which I did. Sure enough they shipped it out the next day. I was very impressed with the way they packed it so it wouldn't get damaged and also their price was very reasonable. Store owner will shame and embarrass you for not purchasing one of their high end bicycles. I came in for advice or maybe a new stem for my eBike. He asked where I bought it, and I told him online. I then showed him the stem from my bike and he proceeds to say it's a cheap part from and there was nothing that could be done. I understand the levels of bike ownership. I know I'm not riding a $$$$ upper echelon bicycle, but you shouldn't shame people on what they ride. Whether it's a Schwinn from Target or Walmart to a Cervelo S5 for $10K. Besides, eBikes aren't cheap either. I could've bought a very nice bike in his shop for what I paid. His arrogance shines through after only 2 minutes of conversation. Looks like I'm not the only with issues regarding the customer service at Tacoma Bike. I bought a bike from a here a few years ago. The young woman that sold the bike was awesome, knowledgeable and friendly. That was a positive experience. However, the last experience I had was extremely negative. The man who answered the phone was rude from the beginning of the call. I let him know what I was looking for and he responded by telling me that they didn't have the bike I was looking for and that the entire world was sold out of bikes because of COVID. He said, "is that all you want I have other people calling me" and hung up. I went to REI that day and found a very similar bike to what I wanted and the staff was more than friendly. I purchased what it was suppose to be a "tubeless tire" for my MTB and while there, I asked the guy if they could swap the my tires due to the new one I was getting was a bit wider. My tires when already converted to tubeless but I popped the rear one. Obviously the charged me for the service. Took the bike home with the tires installed and ready....not really, the new tire does not hold air. Took the tire back and the rudest old guy "helped me" not being helpful and end up finding g out the tire they sold me wasn't tubeless ready. Not only that, they do t want to do shit about it and did t even offer to replace it for the one I paid for it. Worst customer service ever. I'll call them back on Monday and hopefully somebody else can help. read more

Worst bike shop experience ever spent about 300 dollars for my bike to return to me worst than when it went in. Told the guy when I dropped my bike off that it's having shifting problems and under a load it it skips. Get my bike back same problems I take it back they can't find anything wrong with it I showed them two videos of the problem. They Just shrugged it off. Then he says oh your derailleur looks a little bent wouldn't you have fixed that or told me it needs replacing or anything how do I know now that you guys didn't do that. Very bad mechanics for detail. As a mechanic myself I know if you find other problems with someone's car you let them know and see if they want it fixed or replaced. Then today I go in because it's makes a creaking noise that has never made before showed him a video again of the probkem then the guy in the back says I shouldn't be riding that bike it's junk. Thanks man I don't have money to just buy thousand dollar bikes I've been to other shops the one on MLK is great, great experience and Phil's bike shop in federal way is great he comes outside with you to visually inspect the bike and diagnose the problem with you these guys just don't do much. I don't even know why I come back here. Second subpar experience. Here's the story of this round: I brought my bike in for a tune up. The guy working, "Mike" (I guess he's the owner?) said he was thinking of shutting down because being in there was like jail. In other words, my bringing him business was such a burden I was putting him in jail. He then went on and on on about sailing. (He was talking to a friend who was also in there-- clearly I was interrupting his socializing). He filled out the form for a tune up (so a Trek? No, it's a Lemond-- barely paying attention) and when I asked if there was anything else I needed to do before picking it up, new tape, whatever, he pointed at my tape and said, see your tape, that's a sign you don't even use your bike, to which I said, "or I wear gloves." My bike would be ready in a few days. Then I left, irritated. I got in my car. Then I got out of my car and went back in and got my bike to take elsewhere. Never going back. Why would I want to give you my business, Mike? Bikes should be about joy. Tacoma Bike seems to lack that. I am done with the arrogance of this place. read more

I have been a Tacoma Bike customer for years and they have been my go-to repair shop. Like many businesses, they struggled during the pandemic particularly in parts availability and it seemed that they had employee turn-over that made good customer service sometimes difficulty. When the business was sold, I feared that the shop was going in a different direction under the new owners and because it seemed that many of the experienced employees had also departed. Years ago, I bought an Orbea ebike from Tacoma Bike and this year wanted to upgrade to carbon wheels. Turned out to be a big deal in that the bike has the motor in the rear wheel and I could not find anyone that would build new carbon wheels that involved the motor. But Johnny and Jeff in the repair shop jumped in and within 2 days I walked out with new carbon wheels that are awesome. They were both so knowledgeable and easy to work with. So my concerns about the "new" Tacoma Bike were resolved. Repair work and customer service was outstanding. read more

I called Tacoma Bike because I was looking for a Giant mountain bike for one of my kids. I talked to someone on the phone twice and they were very polite and helpful. When I arrived I was greeted by Ross (I believe) and he too was very helpful. Both individuals deserve 5 stars. While there a gentleman entered and had a question on how to improve a bike he bought at Walmart. The older guy laughed and made a smart ass comment. Where I'm from you don't shame someone because of what they can or cannot afford. It always makes me feel bad when I hear stuff like this. A bike enthusiast is a bike enthusiast. It shouldn't matter if it's old or new, expensive or not. I still bought the bike I intended to buy. I'm just not so sure if I'll be back to buy another. I'm probably reading too much into this. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Called first before I went up there to see if they could fix by rear tire and said yes. Took bike apart, took it up there just to walk in and not greeted. Stood there with my bike in hand listening to handle bar mustache employee talk for 10mins with owner about a bike part he couldn't fix that he had to YouTube. Then when I finally acknowledged by the owner after they had there important conversation as if their wasn't a customer standing there he proceeded to tell me that he's not working on bikes today. Noted I called first, there was a bike on the stand, and employee was asking how to fix bike. Owner told me to take my bike somewhere else when I told him how great there service was. Looking to replace my aging rain bike, I ordered a Giant bicycle online and elected to pick it up at Tacoma Bike, a store I'd never visited before. I arrived at the shop with only about a half hour to spend and needing several parts from my old bike transferred to the new one. The proprietor and his assistant worked quickly and cheerfully to accommodate my unreasonable demands; the whole transaction was smooth and professional--very impressive! The shop itself is tidy, well organized and bountifully stocked. ...oh, and the bike? I moved into the area back around October, in November I took my road bike in for a full service. New bottom bracket, cables the works. All-in-all just over $400 worth of maintenance work. Due to a mishap on there end it took just over 3 months for me to get my bike back. This wasn't too much of an issue as mechanic did great work and its winter and I only ride that bike in the dry. Today I headed back with a couple of wheels that needed work, the rear hub needed rebuilding and a spoke needed replacing on the front. This time instead of talking to the mechanic I spoke to a person who I can only assume is the owner. Once I explained what I needed doing. He asked me, how long I wanted to wait? I replied I wasn't in that much of a rush. He then told me how it would take a long time. I asked approximately how long? He said we'll only know when it's finished. He then explained how we where in a global pandemic and how parts will take a really long time to arrive and he can't work that out beforehand, and how hubs have all kinds of bearings and it's unreasonable for me to ask........ At this point he kind of lost it. And told me to fu*k myself... It was the strangest thing I've ever seen. The thing is my hub that needed rebuilding is a DT 240, it uses standard bearings, that are available from many suppliers. At this point I decided to leave the shop and find another bike shop. What's interesting is this behavior tracks with some of the review on Google review. Anyone else experience this? read more

Poor customer service. Went here for restoration on a vintage bike and was extremely put off. I knew the bike needed a little work and wanted some advice on possible repairs and just an overall safety evaluation. They looked at it and told me "probably $200" and when I asked what that included they couldn't give me a clear answer. I got the feeling my bike wasn't good enough for their shop. Decided I wanted to get a bike to ride back and forth from work sometimes. Haven't rode a bike since I was a kid. When I first went into the shop I didn't think they would have a bike I wanted... most of their bikes look like they were for speed, while I was looking for comfort. I have a bad back so this was important to me. The guys that worked there were both very helpful. They ended up building me a bike that wasn't on display. They also let me ride around the neighborhood so I could get a feel of it. They were very helpful and listened to what I wanted. I am still very happy with my bike and very happy I got it from here. They are definitely more expensive than what you will find in the supermarket. However, I was able to get a bike with smaller frame which I was having trouble finding at the supermarket. Most of the bikes I could hardly reach the floor standing above the bar. Yes I'm short ;) Even the ones where I could I didn't like them for other reasons. For me the extra price was definitely worth it. Also the first maintenance I got on my bike was free!! read more

I had an issue with a pedal 4 miles into "Ride Around the Sound" and was able to get back to the start to load up my bike, book it over to the shop and get a quick but sturdy fix in almost no time. Highly Recommend!!! I called Tacoma Bike to see if they had a selection of 24" bikes for my daughter's upcoming birthday. Johnny was very helpful over the phone, describing each bike they had in stock. This included running downstairs to check other inventory, and then running back upstairs to check his shipment list to see if more would be in soon (they only had 3 to choose from at the time). I went in the following day with my daughter to pick out her bike. Johnny happened to greet us and recognized me from the phone conversation the day before. He was more than happy to help my daughter and I find the right bike for her. He also set us up with all of the extra pieces we were looking for to complete her birthday present. Johnny was very patient (with a very excited 8 year old!) welcoming, and helpful through the whole process. He even took the bike in the back to install a water bottle mount while we waited. Sadly, it has been such a long time since I have had such an amazing customer service experience like this one. I left Tacoma Bike very pleased and excited to bring my younger daughter when she is ready for a bigger bike too. I recently stopped in here to get fitted for a helmet so that I could ride that day. I left the shop and quickly realized that I couldn't get my front wheel off. I took the bike back in and they taught me how to do it, put endcaps on, and made sure it was good to go - at no cost. I went in this week to buy a bike rack and have my brake fixed and I got the same excellent level of customer service as I had the week before. This place deserves two stars, because it's in a good location and their store is clean and have a decent variety of bikes and accessories. Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, the customer service is dreadful. So much so, that driving the extra 1/2 mile to Old Town or other bike shop is absolutely necessary. One employee in particular, the mechanic, is exceptionally smug and in poor attitude. I'm not going to profess to anyone that I have a vast knowledge of bikes, but I've done my research and other bikes shops have calmly and professionally explained the part I needed and why I needed them. This mechanic seems to be more interested in exploiting the flaws in your knowledge and then talking down to you in a condescending manner and rolling his eyes then actually listening to what you need. At one point, the conversation became very combative when he pulled out a crankset and said this matched the spindle I previously had, and when I asked if I could take a look at the piece, he yanked it away telling me I couldn't touch it. Ironically, after getting a brief glimpse of said spindle, I explained that I needed an Octalink V1 at which point his overly anxious manner and ego were bruised and abruptly marched into the backroom. The reason people come to bike shops, over ordering off the internet, is because of the helpful customer service and feeling assured in their purchase from a trusted, knowledgeable source. Why come to a place where you'll feel threatened and openly mocked when you can get your parts off the internet for half the price? Support your local bikes shops, just not this one. read more

I took my Brampton for a check-up today (3 Jul). Nothing needed to be adjusted per the tech and he explained the reason for the problem I had noticed. Although he spent about 8 minutes of checking and 2-3 minutes of talking to me, he did not charge me for the diagnostics. I would definitely trust these guys and return for future business read more
