Tip: the green sauce that comes with the shrimp tacos is extremely spicy so definitely dip your finger in the sauce to try it before you go pour it on to your tacos. The good: all tacos were delicious, I tried the shrimp taco, crispy fish taco and seared fish taco. The shrimp taco was the best one even though it seemed like there was a maybe 1 to 1.5 small shrimps chopped up into small pieces per taco. The crispy fish taco was also delicious and is a larger portion and the seared fish was also delicious but again small portion. The bad: the tiniest portions I've ever seen in a taco. The definition of Late Night Gourmet! After starting off my first night of Basel '22 somewhat late, I needed a place to eat but all of the other Design District restaurants were full or hosting private events. I saw Tacombi and decided to try my luck. I got in, filled my order on their paper slips....and waited close to 30 minutes to get my first dish. Understandable since they were the only open spot, but I was hungry :) I had a couple of their bottled waters, since I didn't have PTO the next day. Y'all know how I feel about bottled water and filtered water right? Among my bites were the black bean soup with rice (and some heat already blended in). I ended up boosting the spice factor with both the red and green salsa from the (non complementary) chips. We had an exceptional experience at Tacombi. Olga, our server was gracious, attentive, and helped us navigate the menu and make minor substitutions with our toddlers. The best taco in my opinion was the al pastor taco, we had to order a couple extras for good measure. The carne asada was also a highlight. Other folks in my group enjoyed the fish a la planchette. I started with an AMAZING Michelada that reminded me of my last trip to Monterrey! My wife had a margarita that she equally enjoyed. I visited Tacombi on Saturday around noon for a last-minute lunch. We ordered the CORN ESQUITES, GUACAMOLE CON TOTOPOS, two BEEF BIRRIA TACOS, a BAJA CRISPY FISH TACO, A CARNE ASADA QUESADILLA, and a pitcher of spicy margaritas. The spicy margs were excellent. Don't normally complain, however, ordered carryout on New Year's Eve and the experience was the worst I've had in 2025. Door was locked which was strange but a delivery driver let me in. Staff was breaking things down and cleaning while still preparing food which was a red flag. I stood there and watched while a few sanitation standards were not being followed. The staff quality cut a frozen block of meat and hurried to cook on flattop grill with no seasoning and the grill hadn't been cleaned . The majority of our other items got cold as I waited . As I stood there I saw most of the condiments had been depleted so not sure we even got an accurate representation of each item. Most of the food was inedible and for the $70 price point a complete waste of money and ingredient. Tacombi Design District needs to do better or don't open on a day like NYE! read more

Bad execution, uninspiring decor, grossly overpriced. The restaurant is decorated as a vintage late 70's, early 80's tourist hole-in-the-wall Mexican eatery. Think foldable chairs, metal tables, folksy things written in Spanish on walls. Service is attentive. You receive a menu where you can tick the option you want to order; waiters collect them, and the food is brought a few minutes later. No touchless menus or touchless payment, no social distancing, no increased air flow, no al fresco seating, and no hand sanitizer. It is as if the pandemic never happened. We ordered the esquites, a corn salad that came in a small paper cup, and that was - rather sadly - the highlight of our meal. The totopos (corn chips) and guacamole were okay, but at over $13, I would have expected much more guacamole than the small scoop we received. The al pastor taco was dry and very one note. Same with the fried fish taco. Even though the fish was rather good, the whole thing was just very oily. No sour or acidic note, no spice, nothing. There are no desserts. In summary, quite disappointing and not worth the hefty price tag. The Taco Stand in Wynwood is much better. read more

I live steps from the Miami Design District, so I watched expectantly as the restaurant built out the location. Opening during Art Basel, it immediately drew crowds, so I waited a little more. My first visit was an early lunch. Eh. Not impressed. Light on the proteins, heavy on salt. I then tried take out a week later. Greeted by an exceptionally friendly hostess who took my order and Apple Pay with a happy smile. My steak "burrita" was prepared a little too fast. Over prepped food. Seasoned too well - too much salt. I don't like salt. I rarely add it to food/cooking. And, too much salt is offensive. Tacombi recipes seem to start and finish with it. The executive chef/cook should consider tasting the preparations. Third and last shot at redemption is a failure. NOT RECOMMENDED. Living just a few blocks away, I wanted to like this place. No luck. After today, nothing could drag me back. The hostess is still exceptionally friendly and cordial. My accolades end there. Let's start with the gravel or broken glass found in my rice and beans. (Photo attached). Over seasoned food lacking in character other than too much salt. Sloppily assembled. Nothing memorable - other than foreign, non-organic matter nearly cracking my teeth. I had better fish taco and the tortilla on this taco didn't really go well with the fish. It felt too heavy. The mushroom quasadilla was my top favorite, and second is a tie from the avocado tostada and the al pastor taco. The watermelon Agua Fresca was refreshing, but it was too sweet for me. I truly enjoyed my Margarita, Tuna Tostadas and Guacamole! The staff was very friendly and the food was made to order. I also enjoyed the elite corn in a cup. It was sweet and the cheese/cream was not over whelming. My tuna tostada was so good! I really love the crispy onions on top and the fresh fish. I have to say their tortilla chips was fried to perfection and I like that they were not thin. It was easy to scoop with the guacamole. My margarita was really good. We had the Baja fried fish taco, carne asada taco, chicken taco, tuna tostada and guacamole. My husband thought the guacamole was the best he ever tasted. It was fresh and came along with fried tortilla which were thick enough to hold the guacamole without breaking. We also really enjoyed the chicken taco, the carne asada and the tuna tostada was my daughter's favorite thing. Tacombi in Design District offers a quick Mexican bite with an unpretentious atmosphere and pretentions price for the portion sizes. I tried a bit of everything and thought the food was ok. The portions are small which is to be expected for a taco, not for a burrito or a quesadilla. To expand on the quesadilla, it was open which was a surprise as it was not described as such in the menu or upon ordering. I had not ever been here and really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, it didn't quite meet my taco expectations which, granted, are high. We both tried the Al Pastor and the Pollo Yucateo. He also tried the Carne Asada. The only one we enjoyed was the Pollo Yucateo. The Al Pastor was a little dry and lacking flavor. I also got some guacamole. Our server told us the tiles for example on the floor are hand made and come from Mexico. The restrooms are also industrial style, and it kinda works. OH!? and the food. We enjoyed all we had, however the el pastor tacos had too much salt for our liking. The baja crispy fish tacos are beautifully crispy, and of a generous size. Heading all the buzz about Tacombi I had to go and try it! I didn't reserve a table but I was lucky to be seated right away so if you are planning to go, better make a reservation just in case. Started dinner with a Margarita and it was ok... I love tequila so a margarita will always be one of my to-go but this one didn't have much flavor, and it needed more sugar. However, the night got better with an order of Esquites and they were really good! With a hint of lime and chilito, and a piece of lemon to squeeze in before eating, just like the ones in Mexico! After that, we ordered some Guacamole, it was good but the chips were way better! For the tacos, we got the Baja Crispy Fish, and which was really crispy, and the Black Bean and Sweet Potatoes (to my surprise, that combination was really good!)
