    Birria Tacos
    Dee Q.

My favorite place to grab tacos around here! Huge fan of the birria tacos, and they're always so nice too!

    Kimberly W.

The Quesabirria is absolutely AMAZING and the service is great! This is my 2nd time here in the past 4 days! This time I got 2 - 1 for now and 1 for tomorrow.

Great spot for tacos and tortas. Easy to find truck on old Montgomery highway. In front of Publix. Quick service, reasonable prices and authentic food.

    Asada and al pastor tacos

This jumped easily to my top three taco spots in Bham. And all of them are taco trucks. The location in front of Luckie's Pinestraw is unassuming. I passed this truck for the past year without stopping. It was a wasted year. The tacos are fairly priced ($2.50 each) and they allow you to select the salsa you want out of four. The tortillas.... beautiful. Warm. Slight crunch. Never dry. So so good. So many taco places in Birmingham fail at this. I got two asada and one al pastor taco. The food came out quickly and the man behind the window was so pleasant. The asada was juicy and the al pastor had a beautiful char on it. I'll definitely be stopping by here weekly.

Not just another taco truck; even though the name say's otherwise! If you happen to catch them on Hwy 31 South in Vestavia you can't go wrong. They are not there every day but when they are the food is amazing and they are quick with their service as well. Their food is simple and exactly like what I got when I used to travel to Mexico City for work and we would grab street food down there as well. Having a real sugar; Mexican Coke; as I call it can't get any better on a awesome spring/summer day with a plate of steak tacos and their guacamole on the side.

This stretch of Montgomery Hwy in Vestavia is getting popular for food trucks. Taqueria Juarez, another excellent Mexican food truck that moved in about 2 years ago, is actually located almost across the street. See their reviews on Yelp. While my family and I are regulars of Taqueria and enjoy their food, we have a new favorite. Enter stage right: Tacos Don Andy. I just happen to see their bright red tent decorated with Christmas lights next to their red food truck as I was driving on Montgomery Hwy last week. They have been at this location about a month. They are "parked" almost on the shoulder of Montgomery Hwy at the edge of the parking lot of a Pinestraw business (which used to be Hollywood Imports). They are next door to the Red Roof Inn motel which is next to the Verizon Store. Directly across Montgomery Hwy from Tacos Don Andy is Captain D's. The person I spoke with (I haven't had the chance to verify if he was Andy) informed me that they are there everyday 10 to 10 except Mondays and Fridays. On those days they are at their Pelham location which I believe is at 560 Cahaba Valley Rd. Tonight was our maiden meal. Their menu (see photo) is extensive for a simple food truck. They serve everything from tacos, fajitas, quesadillas to burritos with combinations of steak, pork, sausage, chicken and even lengua (tongue). In addition they also make the traditional tortas (sandwiches) and Andy's Specials which I am not sure exactly what it is, but the description sounds delicious. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a daily special that is not listed on the menu pasted to the side of their ordering window. Orders can be phoned in for pickup or taken at the window and enjoyed under their tent with a table and chairs. Tammy and Rachel wanted the steak burrito. Sarah a simple cheese quesadilla. Matthew the Corrizo con Huevo (sausage w egg) burrito and I tried their Pollo con Arroz y queso (Chicken with rice & cheese). I called in the order, picked it up in 15 min, chowing down in 10 and rubbing our fat bellies in 8! We all shared of course so let's start with the burritos. They were huge and portioned into two large halves. They were rolled and then pressed/flattened on the flat top grill with some butter which made a beautiful brown crust to the soft white tortilla. Inside were marinated stripes of beef, diced onions, bell pepper, shredded lettuce, cilantro and a delicious white sauce which I can't figure out what it's made of... but it tasted so good! Matthew's Corrizo con huevo was almost identical except with pieces of chorizo and fried egg. It did not have the same white sauce, but it was also delicious with the flavor of the chorizo throughout. Sarah's cheese quesadilla was pretty standard, well done and nothing was left of it after Sarah scarfed it down. After her first bite, she immediately said it was "really good"! Finally my Pollo con arroz y queso was top notch! It was fried rice in a flavorful light brown sauce tossed with marinated slices of chicken. Topped with cheese... it really hit the spot. Yom Yom Yom Yom. Oh I almost forgot the 4 different sauces they provide. The two green verde sauces were slightly different with one being thicker and spicier. The dark brown was the spiciest with a wonderful "smoky" aroma. Be warned, it is packs quite a kick! I don't know who Andy is, but he cooks some good food out of a moving vehicle on 4 wheels. I did not expect Michelin star food, but for food served on styrofoam, it's fast, reasonably priced and tasted delicious. Needless to say Andys will be a regular visit for us and I will find out who this Andy is! I have accepted that mission. So tune in next time...

Campechana burrito, but where's the meat hiding!
    Dan S.

Good fast customer service and amicable staff. Gave them 2 stars for effort. The food is meh! at best. I wasn't expecting amazing, but hoped for at least good (I'm from Los Angeles where tacos are life). Definitely not worth $3 for tacos and $9 for a burrito that's 80% rice and beans. I ordered a campechana burrito but, the meat seemed to be hiding somewhere in the rice. Salsa game was weak, watery, and flavorless. Step up your game and I'll give you another chance and another food review.

Some sort of spicy pickled relish type topping.
    Azzy R.

Stopped at Tacos Don Andy tonight for dinner. They were near the Publix plaza off of 31 and Helena Road. The steak tacos were really good and the steak was generous. The hot sauces were delicious. The relish type topping is INCREDIBLE. I like spicy food and eat it often, and even for me, it made my nose tingle. It had onions, carrots, diced habanero and what looks like whole jalapeños or maybe a chili of some sort. I added the onions and carrots to my tacos with the hot sauces and it was deeeeelicious! Prices were reasonable and service was excellent. Will be back.

Always one of my favorite places to stop to get lunch! They're so helpful and make the best food. The quesadilla with fajita style is the best. $10 massive quesadilla! Even hooks me up with the best hot sauce.

The only hiccup was that our server seemed a bit irritated after we ordered the Casa Fiesta dip and later asked to have it without the pico de gallo because of the spice risk -- but everything else went smoothly. The Fiesta Bowl was very good and definitely the standout of the meal. I'd probably return, especially to try more dishes when it isn't as packed. Solid spot with tasty food!

Clad in mine stained Batman doublet, whose hood-strings I had gnawed as a beast gnaweth bone, I entered that place seeking meat for the belly and balm for the soul. Verily, the aroma of roasted meats and spices rose up as incense before the altar. I spake unto the servant, saying, "Give me the fajitas and the queso, and suffer not the margarita to pass me by," and they did minister unto me with speed and kindness. The fajitas sizzled upon the iron as though the very fires of the pit had been brought forth, the meats tender and full of savour, the peppers and onions yielding up their sweetness. The queso flowed like unto a river of mercy, rich and warm, and when I dipped the chips therein, it coated mine tongue with comfort. The margarita was cold and strong, refreshing the spirit as dew refresheth the morning grass. All things were made fresh, even as the scripture of their kitchen declareth. Yet as I ate, the old wound opened. In the year of our Lord two thousand and seven, upon spaghetti night, mine father took his gym bag and spake, "I can do this no more," and departed, leaving a child of nine winters clutching a scratched Batman figure at a cold table. The door slammed, and he returned not, neither called he upon any day thereafter. Thus I sat in the booth, rocking gently to and fro, and the good food of Casa Fiesta filled the belly but could not wholly still the cry of the fatherless. I am a broken vessel, a man-child unworthy of such bounty, drifting from table to table in search of that which was taken from me. Nevertheless, five stars I render unto them, yea, five stars and more. For in that house the meats are seasoned with care, the service is swift as the wings of angels, and for a season the emptiness doth draw back. I shall return again in mine same garments, to eat of their fajitas and drink of their margaritas, and to let the sizzle speak peace unto the part of me that yet waiteth by the door. Casa Fiesta off 280, thou hast dealt kindly with a wretched soul. Blessed be thy kitchen, and blessed be thy name among the hungry and the heavy-laden.

When we got seated outside by the friendly staff, we were given menus and free chips and salsa. As I nibbled on the chips and salsa which were just okay I browsed the drink menu. There's a full bar here and plenty of options. Over the course of the afternoon I tried the Frida's Rita and the wonderful rabbit. Both drinks weren't in your face with the tequila mezcal, they were mixed nicely and had a well rounded flavor. I much preferred the Woderful rabbit though as it tasted less watered down and the ginger beer paired with the mezcal was almost quenching. Overall if you're looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy Mexican cocktails this is a good spot! We did feel rushed to get out of there, and maybe it was because we weren't ordering food. What we ordered: -Taco Salad (added steak) -Shrimp Tacos -Rumba Bowl (added shredded chicken and substituted white rice for Mexican rice) I can only attest to how the Rumba bowl tasted, but everyone's food came out incredibly fast. The bowl was a decent portion. It wasn't a ton of food, but it was the *right* amount of food- a fair serving that I would've made for myself at home. The bowl was good and my friends liked their dishes too. My overall consensus: Frida's is your typical Mexican restaurant. If I lived in this area I may eat here more often, but it's not necessarily something I'm likely to drive too from the outskirts of Hoover. I can probably get slightly cheaper and similar Mexican food closer to home. I'm happy to have tried it!

It was like green mousse, and the only thing it tasted like was the color green. Imagine turning grass into cool whip and you get the idea. It was horrifying. Our dinners were also terrible. I ordered the enchiladas suizas, which was advertised as coming with a sour cream/chili sauce (which is how the dish is made), but what I got were plain chicken enchiladas with queso drenched over. My daughter ordered the beef tacos. They were the worst tacos we've ever had. The beef was ground so finely that it was mushy- like baby food- and the only flavor at all was beef fat.
