One of the most authentic Mexican restaurants we have been to in the Birmingham area. My lovely bride goes on mission trips every year to Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and other places and she said the tacos, enchiladas and street corn was some of the most authentic she's had outside of Mexico. Atmosphere was perfect, quant and music to match. If there is something I could change about our lunch there would be the service. After having checked the menu online ahead of time, I had anticipated getting the Quesadilla De Birria but didn't see it on the menu in house so I opted for my 2nd choice of Quesabirria Tacos instead. Found this place through their advertisement. I drive around this area all the time but never knew about this restaurant until now! When I got to the restaurant, I mentioned to the employee that I have never been there before. She took the time to go over the menu with me and made some recommendations s well. I ended up ordering their verde enchiladas and steak fajita. My order came out very fast! I enjoyed the sauce on the verde enchilada. It was just the right amount of spiciness! I do wish there was more sauce on the enchiladas. Fajita was fine....missing the lettuce, guac, etc. that usually comes with fajitas at other restaurants though. Also, I thought they would pack chips and salsa for to-go order as well, but they don't. I was at work and decided to try a new spot and I ended up going with Taqueria los primos. I got a steak burrito, elote, and churos. The burrito was amazing and possibly a top 5 burrito I've ever heard had. The flavors of everything inside meshed perfectly together. The elote was good but it was my first time trying it so I wasn't sure what to go off of. Lastly the churos were soft and chewy with a nice crunch on the outside and a little caramel drizzle on the inside. All in all great place. read more

My dad recommended for me to come here when I was craving some REAL, AUTHENTIC tacos after coming back from a trip to Mexico. I FELL IN LOVE AT FIRST BITE! I tried the campechano, steak, and fish tacos, and each were delicious. I love the rolled corn tortillas for the tacos. They are fresh and warm, which makes them amazing. I tried Taqueria Los Primos for lunch on Friday. The restaurant was busy and almost all of the customers were of Mexican decent. I love finding ethnic restaurants that are popular with the brothers (people of same background). It is usually a sign that the place is legit. The waitress was super nice. She was patient, explaining items on the menu, and providing recommendations. The menu is large and colorful. It includes many traditional Mexican dishes. By the way, chips and salsa are not served as a starter. I had the Bistec con Nopales (steak with prickly pear cactus). The dish was served with rice, refried beans, and flour tortillas. The thin steak was marinated and flavorful. It had some char from the grill and was covered with grilled onions and cactus. The cactus was sliced into strips, and had a mild taste similar to cooked squash. The rice and beans were okay. The flour tortillas were fantastic; they were warm and soft. I rolled pieces of steak, rice, and beans in the tortilla and ate it like a fajita wrap. My friend David ordered an interesting dish called Huevoes Divorciados. It had two eggs. One was covered in a green sauce and the other, an orange sauce. The dish was separated by chopped chicken pieces that were on a layer of fried tortillas. David said it was good. Very disappointed with this restaurant. My husband and I put in an order for pickup and when we opened up our food the avocados were bad- not just browned from air exposure, they were rotten. I don't know why they were used in the first place. Once we discarded the avocados, our food just had absolutely no flavor. Aside from the avocados we could tell the ingredients were fresh but nothing was seasoned. We're very confused why this restaurant is rated so highly and will not be retuning. Celebrated my mother's birthday here since she loves this place and all I can say is the same. First off, the atmosphere is so welcoming and fun. It's definitely loud with the band playing and all the customers but it's really exciting! The waitresses are so sweet and check up on you constantly. The food is even better! This is hands down my favorite mexican spot in Alabama. I have tried mexican restaurants all over the country, and this place is in the top 3 no doubt. Ordered take out from here via uber eats pick up- definitely a little 'hole in the wall' place I would have never known existed! It is a little restaurant with an attached grocery store. We ordered the rice/chicken/queso dish and chicken fajitas. Everything tasted pretty good and I would give this place a B+. We were a little disappointed that the chicken and rice dish was shredded chicken instead of fajita style grilled chicken. The shredded chicken was a bit bland but was better when adding the tomatillo salsa. The rice was fluffy and flavorful. I'm sure you can probably request the grilled chicken on it but we didn't know. Their queso was also tasty but more on the watery side than thick side. The fajita was a mixture of the expected chicken, peppers, and onions with the chicken cut up more in cubes than in strips which was fine and had good flavor. It came with rice and beans but none of the typical lettuce/tomato/sour cream mixture. Both were large portions and enough for us to save for lunch the next day! The corn tortillas and chips were good although a little on the heavy side and not as tender as I prefer. All in all we decided we would try this place out again and check out more of their menu items! I think it is definitely worth it to try this local spot out! I love this place! The staff is very friendly and they are quick too! Me and my Girlfriend come here a few times a week and it really hits the spot. The tortillas taste like someone's Abuela made them and the cheese they use on the quesadillas is to die for. My favorite thing is the torta though. I knew I was in the right place when my co-worker and I walked in and were the only 2 non-Spanish speaking individuals in the restaurant! Jack pot this place is gonna be good! The menu is huge and complete with descriptions and pictures. Honestly we had to google a few items. That's out of character for me, as you don't develop my physique by not knowing what food items are. The server was friendly and educated us as much as she could. I went with the torta de asada. I previously saw pic of the torta which is why I bookmarked the place. I contemplated ordering a few other items to get a good sample of their offerings but didn't. Very glad I didn't. Shortly after I ordered I received a regulation football sized torta. It was awesome. Super fresh bread, loads of freshly grilled steak, nice layer of beans, some avocado and lettuce and tomato. I almost ate it all. It was incredible. The best torta I've had. I would not be surprised if they made the bread in house/ if not they get it somewhere local. I made my way over to the salsa bar and got some scary looking salsa the other patrons were enjoying to enhance my meal experience. The bright red scariest looking salsa was mild initially; however, a moment later you get a nice creeping slight burn. Not overwhelming but far more heat than your average Tex mex joint salsa. I tried the green which has a considerable number of seeds in it and actually frightened me a touch when I saw how relatively mild the red was. I'm relatively certain the chief ingredient is chilies with a little water and salt. Hot but good and went great with the sandwich. There is also an avocado sauce which had no noticeable spice, but I likely wouldn't have noticed as I had just consumed liquefied peppers. My cow-worker ordered a dish akin to fajitas with steak, chicken and shrimp. He insisted I try a shrimp. He gave me a huge shell on butterflied shrimp and it was fantastic. It had a mild smokey flavor and was grilled perfectly. His meal looked like what you would see coming out of a high end restaurant kitchen; however, fancy Mexican restaurants in the high rent districts try and replicate but never truly capture the flavor. This dish had deep well developed flavor, I cannot put my finger on the spice mixture/ flavor but it was slightly smokey and expertly prepared. We had some chips and salsa and they were good, typical- the salsa was fresh and had good flavor. The main dishes were exceptional. I am so glad I tried this place. I will be back for sure. The torta was 7 bucks! I challenge anyone to find that quality and quantity of food anywhere in Hoover for 7 bucks! His dish was 12. That plate would be 25 bucks or more at any of the high end Mexican joints and the flavor and portion wouldn't come close to what he received. I absolutely recommend this place. Excellent experience. I would say I'm going back tomorrow but it was a tremendous amount to food and well I over indulged in the super fresh hot salsas in as much as my nose was still running a little when I got in the car. Next time I want anything Mexican and I'm anywhere near this place, this is where I'm going. They have authentic cuisine, but I would bring the family here as they serve non traditional Americanized cuisine as well.
