Every time we vacation in Punta Mita, we always drive up late in the day for happy hour, a light dinner, and then to Tacos el Ivan for a few tacos. Yes, you read right....always have to eat a few of these delicious el pastor w/pineapple slice tacos with extra salsas. I am now hungry again while writing this review. I have never found a place in the United States (especially in California) that even comes close to this place for freshness and flavor. Order, pay in pesos, add salsas and lime if you like, and eat on the street with the locals and tourists. Good place for all! It's not pretty, but it brings us joy. Tacos al pastor is what you need to order from this unassuming cart. That's really all you need to know. Long live tequila-fuelled second suppers, followed by stargazing from a pool floatie. Man alive, I can't wait for the world to reopen. On a serious note: Don't drink and (golf cart) drive. We ordered the pastor tacos, which were amazing, the Arrachera (skirt steak), carne asada taco, and pastor quesadilla. Everything was great! Quicker service on the street, but they also have about a dozen tables inside, too. Next time I think we'd just order 3 pastor tacos each - so good, especially with the avocado salsa! read more

I literally dream of the tacos at El Ivan and they may have influenced our decision to have our wedding close to Sayulita. Seriously. They are that good. Its the kind of place that makes me think Yelp should add an extra special gold star for when the 5 star rating doesn't do it justice. We just returned from our trip and I think we ate Tacos El Ivan at least 4 days, each time blown away at how delicious the Al Pastor tacos are and even more amazed when our bill would come in under $10 for 2 of us including beers. You can now find Tacos El Ivan in 2 locations in Sayulita as they have partnered with a bar in the Plaza for their second location. This was a quick snack before getting ready for dinner - and I mean very quick. Had 1 steak taco which very affordable. Even thought there was a line, I still got the taco within 3 minutes. It was delicious! There is a lot of action around the food stand. The different salsas were tasty. This place is great if you are on the move. There's pretty much nowhere to sit other than one table and a bunch of plastic chairs that cars drive by within inches of, but that just adds to the experience. I loved every single bite of every single taco that this guy made for me. Super friendly staff and awesome tasting Al Pastor tacos. I didn't try any of the other meat, just the Al Pastor! Go on your first day in Sayulita and I guarantee you will go again, many more times! I think they were about 13 pesos each, but it seemed like different prices when we bought a lot of them at once. Any trip to Sayulita is not complete without a visit to this taco stand. Amazing flavors from the carved el Pastor pork with sliver of pineapple flicked on top. Go there planning to grab a few tacos, end up eating 12+ no matter how hungry you were when you came. Quite the efficient little operation from taking orders to the person who covers the plates in plastic bags instead of washing them. On my second day in sayulita I tried the al pastor quesadilla in El Ivan's because of a recommendation from Eduardo at Villa Amor. I really can't explain how great the food was here. The young lady serving was great, she made us feel extremely welcoming which enhanced the entire experience. We returned on our last day and I ordered another 3 servings because I knew it would be a long time before I'd have this amazing food again. Small carneceria that opens a street stand at night. Simply put, they do their meat perfectly. The steak is very good, the chorizo is amazing, but if you're going to do anything, get two or three al pastor. Without hyperbole, these are the best al pastor tacos I have ever had in my life, US or Mexico. Not a ton of meat in them, but the flavors are perfect. Standard comes seasoned with a slice of pineapple, some onions and cilantro. Before you help yourself to the selection of wonderful salsas and toppings to add yourself, I suggest you try the first taco unadulterated- I bet you will find no need to change a thing. I genuinely think these are the best al pastor tacos in the world. The tacos and the gringas are unbelievable. I've been going here for over ten years and it's still great. The gringas are small flour tortillas with melted cheese and then all the stuff in a taco. This is a street taco stand that currently has no tables, just a few chairs. That said, it's still a delicious taco and one of the more popular and well known in town. The crew working the outdoor stand is fast, efficient and is will to give you extra piña if you ask for it. I'm also a fan of their green avocado salsa that works well with the onions and cilantro. The town square is typically bustling with excited tourists ripe with liquor-filled bellies, a fresh sunburn, and more than a few bucks to dump on street tacos. The al pastor tacos here are certainly my favorite and also the most fun to order. The slightly charred pork sliced cleanly with a sharp knife and topped with a sliver of local pineapple with haunt your dreams in the best possible way. Add some of the green avocado salsa and you'd be silly not to order at least three of these little suckers. Most people order tacos and either eat them standing, sitting at the few high tables outside or take them to go. I must say after quickly going inside the restaurant I was a bit hesitant about eating the tacos I had already ordered, the restaurant was not clean, it was actually pretty dirty looking (especially the restroom). Grab a seat and be ready to eat. They specialize in Tacos al Pastor which are an amazing offshoot of shawarma but with pork. Layers upon layers of thinly sliced pork cooked to perfection by rotating around fire... Yum fire! fuego! You sit on the street in a plastic chair and just say the number you want, I go with tres or quatro. Quickly they are back, and then you take your plate up to the salsa bar to add your condiments; onions and habanero, amazing salsas, cucumbers and radishes on the side, and of course limes. The price is also incredibly low and the locals all eat here too... $10 pesos a taco. They do make other things but to me this is some of my favorite Al Pastor anywhere. They open at 6pm usually and run very late - until the meat is gone, and of course you bring your own booze. Puerco + Fuego = delicious! read more

Authentic and simple, rotating types of meat (el pastor, chorizo, pollo etc), unfortunately no veg options. Friendly staff with good grasp of English (if your Spanish food ordering game is weak) also has cheap and cold cervezas in bottles. I've been coming here every year for 5 years and this place never disappoints. As someone who loves to try new food I sampled nearly every taco place in the square and this is by far my favorite. The al pastor is fresh, the meat is succulent (they pat the soft taco shell on it first) and it taste great with the fresh pineapple cut. HOW IT WORKS: I noticed this place use to be open in the afternoons but it appears it's now only open in the evenings starting at 5 pm. Stand in line or find someone taking orders and tell them how many tacos you want and your name. Each taco should be 13 pesos and will already come with the meat, cilantro, chopped onions and a slice of pineapple. When they call your name out you can get your tacos and add the following toppings: -Cucumbers -Limes -Onions w/ jalapenos -Salsa(s) -Occasionally they will have grilled onions. AMBIANCE: This is not your sit down nice dinner place. It's fast and be prepared to either stand and eat your tacos or sit on a plastic chair. TIPS: -TIP THESE PEOPLE WELL - they work hard and we want to continue supporting the business -This place has become really popular in the past few years I've been here and it's become super crowded. A lot of locals get frustrated when tourist come to this place on the corner and block the street so please be mindful of how you may be blocking the sidewalk or street when cars are trying to come through. -It's generally really crowded and the line tends to die down after 9 pm. -Churros are across the street or across the bridge and will make for an excellent dessert read more

I got the gringa which is an open faced quesadilla with meat and onion and cilantro on top. However the maldito won the award. 4 small tacos with cheese on the open face. All 4 meats. When we walked up people were surrounding this little taco cart. A huge hunk of Adobada spun as a guy sliced off serving after serving for tacos and Tortas. After each taco he would slice a chunk from the whole pineapple that was speared to the top of the meat. The pineapple chunk would sort of sail through the air and land on the taco in his hand every time. The flavor was as great as the experience, with an array of fresh salsas.
