Cheese, cheese, and more cheese! They were very busy, so we had to wait about 20-30 minutes to be seated, but they hustled to get people seated as quickly as possible. The specialty here is the Itacate - it is a burrito, but instead of being wrapped in a flour tortilla, it is wrapped in cheese. I ordered tacos because we had the queso fundito appetizer (delicious and more than enough for 4). After tasting an Itacate, tacos was the right decision. Otherwise it would have been way too much cheese. The pulpo (octopus) was amazing, but the veggie taco (ordered since they were out of poblano) was disappointing. I'm still giving them a 5 though because my husband reported that his ribeye taco was very good, and my daughter's jamaica (hibiscus) quesadilla was amazing. There was a nice assortment of sauces, onions, and beans that came with the orders too.

I was sitting there out loud going "I'm so happy" over and over again - I got the mahi mahi filling which was delicious but def not the usual combo because it's like fresh and light protein and tbis should have been paired with chicken or steak or carnitas (which my friends got) - if someone said a hot sexy boyfriend or this queso .... I'd take this queso. I think I would actually take this queso over everything. anything. - burritos were sooooo superior to tacos don't even think about the tacos. - the burritos had peppers and onions and SO MUCH CHEESE AHHHH
Eagerly waited until they opened at 1pm. Good lord, people. THE HYPE IS REAL. This is one of the best things I've ever eaten. This is one of those things you almost hate to eat because you're going to go home and crave it and be so sad you can't just walk over and get one to go. My favorite part (aside from the perfectly grilled cheese exterior?) was the veggies inside and the side of chargrilled onions. Next time I may even skip the meat. But the ribeye was cooked perfectly and super flavorful. This itacate burrito itself is huge and worth every peso. I only ate it an hour ago and i already can't wait to go back! Pro tip: it's cash only. Bring enough to tip your server (service is super attentive and friendly.)
Had the best vegan tacos in my life at @el.itacatesayulita! The first one is Jamaica (hibiscus) flower sautéed with onion and tons of garlic and the second one is Tinga, a spicy carrot blend that definitely set fire to my tongue! The hibiscus is actually for a hibiscus quesadilla but since I'm vegan and can't eat cheese I had them as a taco instead and I'm still thinking about them!!! Oh, and the salsa flight is something else! Three different salsas, an onion & cilantro mix, pickled white onions and limes. Then, they add a side of dank beans and small foils of grilled onions. Two ginormous tacos (easily spread out into 4 with the amount of fillings) was just $110, or $6.50 USD. A little pricy for Mexico but compared to vegan food in the US it was a fantastic price!! The server was super friendly and made sure my side of beans was vegan as well. He walked us through the salsas and then laughed with me when I over spiced my Tinga taco. Their new location just over the bridge towards the highway is a gorgeous building, all white with black trim and looking sleek. Theres an attached cigar lounge as well if youre into that sort of thing. If you visit Sayulita, make sure to try El Itacate!
100 STARS - HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I'VE EVER EATEN. EVER. Period. This place is an absolute game-changer. The Itacate burrito is so good that it makes me want to lower the rating of every other restaurant I've ever reviewed because this place is genuinely above and beyond 5 stars. During our trip, we told every friend and person we met to come here and try the Itacate. We may have annoyed some friends, but they quickly understood our enthusiasm once they tasted it. The Itacate is a tortilla shell made entirely of seared mozzarella cheese, filled with steak and veggies. It's truly a masterpiece. While their other items are also great, nothing compares to the Itacate. Our vegetarian friends and their family of six were pleased with the variety of vegetarian options they had available. We visited this place three times during our trip, and we still dream about it. The service here is top-notch, whether you dine in or take it to go. When you dine in, you can sit at nice shaded tables on the street and watch horses and cars go by. They give you chips and a variety of salsas and guac, all of which are delicious. Overall, this place is 1000% BOMB.
We were recommended this taco shop. There wasn't a line but we got the last table and then they started to get busy. They are one in the same as La Mariscal. We ordered their popular tacos- octopus, ribeye, and shrimp. The octopus had one huge tentacle, which was great but the octopus itself lacked seasoning. Then the worst was the ribeye taco which was full of grizzle, fat and barely any decent meat to chew on. Every bite had a chewy part that we couldn't eat. I threw the chewy parts down to the street dogs and they didn't even want it. And the meat itself had no seasoning whatsoever. It was so bland. Their signature dish is the fried cheese wrap one but we didn't get it and maybe that's our bad. This was probably our worst meal in Sayulita. We ate, paid (cash only) and left. Would not recommend for tacos. We ended up getting some more tacos at Diaz and Ivan to wash our mouths out with good tasting tacos.
A great casual lunch or dinner place in a quieter part of town. The octopus tacos are a highlight of our whole stay in Sayulita!

Heat stroke, $100 USD, Overpriced underwhelming, no menus other than posted sign. No description of food. Used weird words that didn't translate to anything. When asking the waiter to bring me the 5 best tacos of the house or the favorites. I was brought 2 steak and 2 chicken tacos, dry and flavorless and a small spicy shrimp taco. Really? What are your specialties? What is your name taco? Absolutely too hot and smoky inside, took over an hour to get food. Not enough toppings, ran out of salsa and onions on 2 tacos. No service.
Yelp Family!!! My apologies for being so MIA. But your boy is back!! With a bomb restaurant recommendation for anyone who happens to be in Sayulita, Nayarit! El Itacate!!! WOW!!! This place is straight fire!! DELICIOUS tacos!! There is not one person who should be giving this restaurant less than five stars. NOBODY! Or I'll take it personally! If you're looking for the BEST and most creative tacos in Sayulita, look no further! Chicken, pork, shrimp, fish, octopus, beef, steak, vegetarian tacos.. you name it, they have it! Something for everyone! Located in downtown Sayulita on Av. Revolución, El Itacate is the perfect lunch spot for large groups! I was with a group of six and really enjoyed how spacious and comfortable it was. The setup is half indoor/ half outdoor, allowing for a lot of seating flexibility. In fact, I noticed a bachelorette party of fourteen seated out front! However, given this was Mexico in October, it was a hot, humid, muggy day. And thus my group and I opted to sit in the inside "half" of El Itacate. Although not fully indoors, having the shade and fans "blasting" towards us made my group feel that much more comfortable and ready to order! And speaking of ordering, I love how creative El Itacate is with their menu. It's plastered right by the entrance in large, bold lettering! Making things VERY easy with no true "menus" required! I loved the creativity and ease in which my friends and I were able to order our lunch! Another thing I love about El Itacate are how generous they are with their SALSAS and Guacamole! Each taco order comes with five "salsas" and a load of limes. Of the three liquid salsas, one was creamy tomatillo based, another smoky chipotle, and the third "spicy tomato." Or at least that's the best way I can describe it lol. The two solid salsas were diced red onions with cilantro and sliced white onions with habanero mixed in. I loved all five salsas equally! They were all spectacular and flavorful, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the smoky chipotle. The guacamole was absolutely incredible as well. I love how in Mexico when you order guacamole it comes in large, generous quantities! Here in the U.S. restaurants are ridiculously cheap with their guac portions!! And as anyone who follows my reviews knows- being cheap is immoral! So stop that! Lol My only small gripe is I felt the chips were a little "stale," but we also came for lunch at kind of a weird time of the day (like 2pm?) So maybe if we had arrived earlier the chips would've tasted more fresh? Ultimately I was starving after a morning and early afternoon of playing soccer on the beach, so I opted for three tacos (could've had four but dinner was only a few hours away ha!) I opted for arrachera (skirt steak), shrimp, and mahi mahi. Each taco was relatively big and DELICIOUS!! Extremely flavorful and creative. You could also tell the tortillas were made from scratch, which I loved. The mahi mahi and shrimp were both extremely fresh tasting. And while I loved all three, if I had to choose a favorite taco I'd go with arrachera. The steak was seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of char to go with tenderness. And with tons of salsa and guacamole to add to these tacos, I was sad when the meal was over. Overall I absolutely loved the vibe of this spot. It's the perfect taco place for anyone looking for a great lunch! The ambiance is fantastic with the modern "look," fresh paint job, and inside/ outside setup. I also want to thank staff for giving me an El Itacate sticker to bring back for my wife! (She collects stickers). Free of charge too!! If you're in the area you MUST go. I wouldn't steer you wrong. Was looking for a highly rated place to eat a quick, late lunch while visiting Sayulita for the day, and El Itacate popped up as a good option. It's located on a busy street without much of a view, so if you're looking for an oceanfront ambiance, this isn't the place. But if you're looking for decent tacos with big portions and fair prices, it's worth a stop. Would I go out of my way to eat here? No. But the food was freshly prepared in an open kitchen, it tasted good, and the free salsas and toppings (including killer grilled onions and very spicy salsas - even the mild knocked me out) provided with every entree were high quality. We ordered guacamole and chips to start, and it was pretty good. They serve those heavily oiled and thick chips that aren't my favorite, but the salsa had a nice flavor and chunks of jalapenos and tomatoes. Wanting to sample several items, we got 4 different tacos: steak, chicken, poblano pepper, and shrimp. The best was the pepper taco, followed by the chicken (which was all white breast meat). The steak was good, but the shrimp was really bad. The seasoning was very unpleasant on the shrimp, so I'd recommend skipping that one. The meat portions were very large, served on top of a dual corn tortilla. The tacos were very plain though, and they needed the added toppings and salsas. Otherwise, they'd just be piles of meat. Bonus points for three very important things: 1. the restaurant is very clean and well maintained. 2. the prices are clearly posted so you don't have to worry about the "tourist surprise" and overcharging that Sayulita is well known for. 3. there are many vegan and vegetarian options, and they are good! El Itacate doesn't serve bargain street tacos, but they're decent enough as a choice for lunch when you're in town. read more

We came upon local recommendations when I asked for street tacos. There are a few tables inside and outside and we were able to seat ourselves inside relatively quickly. Menu options were good, price is ~US pricing and cash only, service to take the order was pretty fast but getting the food took a very long time. I think we waited at least 45 minutes to get our tacos for some reason. Sadly the carnitas tacos were very bland, sauceless and dry..we both thought maybe we got the wrong meat and that it was chicken and asked to clarify (and looked at other photos) but it was indeed carnitas. The chorizo sausage was pretty good. Chuletas was ok flavored and mahi mahi was nice and flaky though the sauce it came with was a little bland. Lots of salsa, beans and toppings to make up for lack in taste or texture but tbh, adding the toppings meant most of the tacos tasted the same. Not worth the price or wait for us. read more
Great Taco spot in Sayulita. So glad we stopped. The rib eye Taco was sooo yummy and the shrimp too. My driver had the chorizo that I sampled and was tasty too. Good margarita!! The grill was right in front, so we could watch the steak grilling. The salsas were so flavorful and the guacamole was on point. I recommend this spot if you make it to Sayulita! read more

This place was recommended as one of the top places to eat at in sayulita. Got the itacate which is basically a cheese burrito without the tortilla. It was filling. They served it with grilled onions and beans as well as a few different salsas, lime and pickled onions. The server was kinda rude but the food was good. read more

Honestly the food was DELICIOUS. I thought it might be too heavy but nope! So good! Tried the Itacate and a bite of the baked potato option and both were great. Also tried one of the vegetarian quesadillas a different time we came and that was awesome too! read more
If you generally don't prefer carne asada tacos, El Itacate is the answer. This isn't that bland, grey skirt steak that's been nuked on the grill for too long. They've got the good meats here, and they know how to cook them. Have you ever had a rib eye taco? Me neither until today, and it changed how I feel about about a carne asada taco completely. Meanwhile, they've also got this thing called a keto burrito going on and you're gonna want to try that too. Prices are reasonable and the flavors are great! read more
*PCTURED. "Did you order all that food". Yes and No. we ordered the food on the right: Quesadilla + Fondue. EVERYTHING else on the left: salsa, fried onion, pickled onion, beans ... all INCLUDED (AKA Free). Prepare To Get Messy. Each bite we recommend putting all the toppings: onion, beans, salsas, squeeze of lime juice. MAGIC IN THE MOUTH. Fondue was delicious and came with iconic fried cheese. Chips were perfect for finishing up all the toppings! We got the jicama quesadilla (tastes like pork but it's made out of dried flowers). Issac is awesome and provided wonderful customer service, muchas gracias Issac! After looking at alllllllll the delicious foodie pics on Yelp, my siblings and I haddddd to try this spot! They are known for the "keto burrito" - mind you neither of us are on the stupid keto diet, but we just had to see what the hype was all 'bout. So listen, the keto burrito is simply a burrito, except instead of the tortilla wrap...the entire burrito is wrapped with CHEeSE! Yeuuuppp, you read that riiiiighht, a cheese wrapped burrito, stuffed with everything delicious and flavorful!!! While my brother and sister were allll 'bout this keto burrito... I had a different favorite on the menu... The RIB EYE taco!!! Omg, yes you read that right! Hah... these were the best rib eye tacos I have ever had. Y'all know me and the pieces of fat I dieeee for on steak! These rib eye pieces of heaven were throughout my taco! I was smiling after each bite! So freakin' good! Omg friends, bottom line... if you're ever planning a visit to the beautiful Sayulita, Nayrit, Mexico - make it a point to visit this spot! It's so worth it!!! read more

Our first night in Sayulita and we headed here based in all the great reviews. We almost departed because there was a very annoying street performer making horrifically loud sounds. But he left, and we sat down We had the shrimp wrapped in cheese burrito which was delicious. Next time, we would just do veggies because that was the best part. The steak taco is very large and is like getting three tacos It arrives very plain, just the meat and the toritilla. You make it better with the trays of salsas they bring to the table. I would not get a taco here again. Another street performer arrived and he was tossing fire batons and quiet. I barely noticed him and didn't really watch his show. I was busy eating and chatting about the food! BUT he did come to our table and aggressively asked for money after he was done. So beware. read more
The long lines outside is apparent when you try el itacate. Each taco is huge (they're not joking when 2 tacos is enough per person) and it comes with an accompaniment of salsas and onions that you dress yourself. While I wished the meats were hotter when it arrived to the table, I can't get over how amazing the chicharron de queso was. It was perfectly crispy and you can even build our own burrito (which we didn't opt for) with the shell. Do stand in the line as it will be totally worth it especially if you order the queso. I'm drooling just thinking about the crispy goodness. read more

This spot is so good They specialize in tacos and burritos and the quality is un-matched, be prepared to wait to be seated because they only have about 4-5 tables and it's worth the wait, the service is great as well, it has a hipster feel and the beer is local which is a plus & across the street is a bar with hookah you can't beat the location right on the street you can people watch and taco eat at the same time. read more
Great stop for food in Sayulita. Ate lunch here a couple years ago and wanted to come back again while taking a day trip to Sayulita. It didn't disappoint and is just as good as I remember. The Itacate isn't too greasy and flavorful. Love the salsas and guac. I was craving their octopus taco but they didn't have any so settled for shrimp and al pastor. We all loved our food and margaritas and hope to stop back again sometime read more
