On our day trip to Sayulita, Mary's came highly recommended, so of course we had to try it. The menu looked fantastic, and we went with a ceviche, a few specialty tacos, and a few regular ones. The standouts were definitely the marlin fish taco, the Oleas garlic shrimp taco, and the breaded fish taco. I really liked that all the specialty tacos came with melted cheese, though the poblano had a bit too much heat for me. The fresh ceviche completely won us over, it was served with these giant, thin, super-crispy tortilla chips I couldn't stop eating these addictive chips! The hibiscus drink was also a perfect refresher for a hot, humid day. If you visit, I'd recommend grabbing a table outside since the inside is quite dark. We were with our friends from PV and they said we need to eat at Mary's. They were not wrong. There was a line when we got there and two waiters brought extra tables to their street dining. We were seated and ordered cold beers and then our food. Our table went with the burrito grande and the big ass burrito. Others got the shrimp tacos and Mary's tacos. Both our burritos were huge and stuffed with meat, rice, beans and slaw. They had wonderful sauces to put on your entrees. My wife loved the shrimp tacos. Loaded with fresh shrimp, avocado, and corn. Mary's is located right in the heart of Sayulita. This town has seen a huge influx of tourists (us included!) in recently years. Unfortunately, this makes parking in the area a nightmare. You'll be circling around trying to find an available spot. Next time, I would just find a paid lot and park there to save the hassle and time. When we got there, there were maybe 3 other parties in front of us, and we were seated pretty quickly. The menu is in English and Spanish and the servers all speak English well. We got the Breaded Fish, Breaded Shrimp, Shrimp Tacos and the Mary's Taco as well as a Ceviche large. The Tacos were good, not the best I've ever had, but it holds its own. The fish tacos had crispy breading but not so for the shrimp, so I'm not sure what happened there. The Mary's Taco was flavorful but didn't really stand out in any way, I think my favorite has to be the Ceviche. That on the toastadas with some spicy sauces really hit the spot for me. This place is lively and located right across the bridge. You might be right there in the street with passing tourists and other folks soaking in the Sayulita energy as you fill your belly. On our last night in Sayulita, I was craving a delicious dinner. I had been researching the best places to eat here and came across Mary's several times. We decided to give it a try. When we arrived, we were a bit hesitant when three servers greeted us, each emphasizing that they only accepted cash. SERVICE Our waiter wasn't exactly the most welcoming person. He was hesitant to explain the menu to us when we had questions. Maybe it was a language barrier, I thought. I asked if the tortillas were flour or corn, and he mockingly replied in Spanish, "Come on, we're in Mexico! The food always comes with corn tortillas!" My husband prefers flour, and he wanted the fajitas platter. In the US, flour is usually preferred over corn. I love corn tortillas, and when I ask for them, I don't get ridiculed for my preference. FOOD I ordered the mix shrimp platter. The shrimp, rice, beans, and steamed vegetables were all good. I really enjoyed the fresh handmade corn tortillas. On the other hand, the flank steak platter was tasty, but the meat was chopped finely and barely visible under the large amount of onions and bell peppers! We were expecting nice strips of meat, but we were glad of the veggies, so my husband had no choice but to eat them. Haha! We received our total for $805 (pesos). The bill wasn't itemized and was just a piece of paper with the total amount written on it. I checked the current exchange rate on multiple apps and online, and it was 1 dollar = 18.5 pesos. We did the calculations and put the amount of dollars ($43) plus a $5 tip for the poor service. The server counted and threw the money back at us, saying we still owed him money. I told him that I had based my calculations on the current exchange rate, and he said that he didn't honor the worldwide rate. He told me his exchange rate was 15, which was set by his boss. This set my scam alarm red flag off! We decided to get scammed and paid him an extra $5 for his subpar service! Suddenly, he started speaking fluent English when he explained about the bill! It wasn't about the amount we paid, but about the poor service and the corruption behind it to rip off extra dollars from the customers. It definitely left a sour taste in our mouths after our experience at Mary's. Next time, I'll always carry enough pesos to protect myself from shady places that only accept cash. read more

This joint has great selection of tacos, mole and ceviche. We ordered Olea's tacos, chicken mole and shrimp ceviche. For the price, you get more portion for what you paid for. Moses took care of us. We loved this place! Had breakfast twice and even though the outside tables are LITERALLY on the road, it was charming, clean and inviting. I am BIG on "eating local" so the first time I had the Chilaquiles and they were nothing short of outstanding. Choice of green or red...I opted for red. Hubby went with the Mary's omelette and was quite happy with it -- I had a bite, too and was impressed by how tasty it was. The coffee is good! It was so hot we went iced. But, crowning glory was the selection of salsas! You have different flavor and heat options, and I suggest you at least TRY a spot of each just to see what you get. The waitstaff is super nice and they really pay attention to your needs. This is a must-go if you are in Sayulita. One of the best and our favorite in all of small town Sayulita. There are always people here, but no wait when we came. You can sit outside or inside. And the best part, the food is DELICIOUS! We came here twice! Our first meal and it was delicious. We got some margaritas and beer to start. Then the Agua chilles, amazing. The best I've tried. It was perfectly salty, tart and spicy. Love this place and I think most people that visit Mary's in sayulita do too. I do prefer lunchtime meal over dinner due to the sheer amount of people that wait and tables are turned over during evening service. Any of the shrimp tacos are to die for - must try them all to see what hits your flavors the most. There are seats outdoors and indoors but for the true vibes, I'd try to wait and snag the outdoor seating. The only thing that I'm not completely sold on here are the NA beverages - both the hibiscus and horchata drinks are much watered down in flavor than what I'm used to. read more

Probably the best sit-down spot we tried in Sayulita! The Sayulita Taco in particular really stood out, as well as "The Badass" burrito. The Chicken empanada was also good but really mostly cheese and chicken, and didn't stand out like the other two items. The piña coladas were also good- very creamy and not too sweet- but wouldn't order again (we didn't notice them tasting or feeling alcoholic at all). While this was the most "authentic" sit down spot we found, if you want authentic get the street tacos. The service, however, was the downfall- our server put my plate down then took it back, saying it wasn't mine, only to return 5 minutes later with the same plate (mind you, that I had already touched, which didn't seem sanitary). He also mixed up our bill with another table, but never brought us a corrected bill just verbally told us we owed more for the drinks. Ambiance overall was very cute, it's on the main stretch near the beach and had a very "traditional" look and feel. Excellent salsas! read more
