These two females behind the counter stared at me for five minutes at the same time (Nowhere near the cash register). The menudo is awesome after a night out partying and drinking. Service is great, the restaurant is decorated in a typical Mexican restaurant. Just popped in here for dinner as it was a good halfway point between my friend and me, and I saw that there were vegan options available. Menu seemed pretty extensive, but I was a little shocked to learn that their beans and rice aren't vegetarian, yet there is a VEGETARIAN burrito on the menu that has both beans and rice - isn't that false advertising? Either way, no big deal, why I always check, and I was just fine with my three avocado tacos and side of guacamole (extra $1.50, but seemed pretty fresh), and glass of wine - all totaled to be just a little over $13 with tax. Not bad if you ask me. Giving this place four stars because the service was incredibly slow (waited 30 minutes after asking the three waitresses on the floor for a third avocado taco), and then it took another 20 minutes to get our checks. No one really seemed to care how our food was, as no one ever checked in. We had one waitress come up and try to take our red and green sauces away as I waited for my last taco without even asking if were were done yet - was pretty interesting, and the restaurant seems a little run down ... but that could easily be from being understaffed. I ordered take out, so I'll keep this one short. Solid price, solid food. I had chorizo and pollo tacos, as well as a tamale. I'd skip the tamale next time, the flavor was good but it just didn't seem fresh, the texture was off a bit. The tacos are tasty, and at 2.50 a piece very affordable for what your getting. I'll say the chorizo could have had a bit more heat, but that's a personal taste issue and nothing a small dab of hot sauce wont remedy. A small dab is all you need too, the hot sauce really packs a punch. The food was ready in about 5-10 minutes and the staff was friendly. Everything was individually wrapped which kept the mess to a minimum. I'll definitely come back and try some other items. If you've only got a few bucks, stop here for some tacos and get a much better meal than at the other local cheap spots. read more

Like some have already mentioned, this is the most authentic of the many Tacos El Norte locations in Lake County. There's one in Gurnee that seems to cater their taste to the boring gringo taste buds, but this one is fantastic! We've been dining there and doing take outs from them for years and they have not disappointed us one bit...not even during the lock down when we had to drive by for pick ups.
