    Chicken enchiladas

I didn't expect much because it's in a strip mall, but this place is legit. Of course there was the tortilla chips and salsa when we sat down. Then they brought out 5 salsas in squeeze bottles and we knew it was gonna be good. I got the chicken enchiladas with all 3 sauces (red mole, green mole, and ranchero cheese sauce) because I couldn't decide between the sauces offered. The beans and rice that came with the enchiladas were great. I also got the pozole which I took home because it was just so much food. I got the horchata and that was solid. My date got the steak fajitas and he loved them. He also got a margarita and said it was exactly what you want out of a house margarita. He also got guacamole and that was the only thing we got that was just fine. The restaurant is decorated cute and the staff was super attentive. Definitely going back!

Simple strip mall restaurant in Grayslake with good food. We ordered two entrees- three enchiladas and two chili relenos. Presentation was nice, food decent. Also ordered al pastor tostada which was delicious.

First time visiting, I love the food. The place was kind of quiet at the beginning, but it got full pretty quickly. The staff was really friendly and amazing and it seems like they have a really good team working in the kitchen they all seem pretty happy. Our food was done fairly quickly amazing flavors super fresh and very tasty! We had Horchata for our drinks and that was really nice. Highly recommended. It's not a fancy place, but it is very clean and cozy.

This place was so great. Everything was authentic and it was nice to have flavorful rice. Best Mexican restaurant food I've had in a long time. Cinco Hermanos and Cinco Salsas. The Habanero salsa was my favorite. Visiting from out of town we liked the restaurant so much we went back the next day. The servers were amazing and the food was cooked fast!

I'll make this a quick one. This was a really mixed experience overall. The space is nice and inviting, it was warm inside too which is always a plus around this time of year. Service was friendly and the food came out fast. We had a few different tacos, rice and beans, a tamale, and a gordita. The steak and chorizo tacos were a bit bland and over grilled but the lengua taco was more enjoyable. The tamale was solid but nothing special. The gordita was the best bite for sure, it had great flavors. I'd come back just for that. We were served some complimentary chips and salsa as well which is always appreciated. The food here was mostly underwhelming outside of the gordita but the price point and quality service make this spot a 3.5 star experience for me. Perhaps I'll have better luck on a return visit.

Came on a Thursday after lunch and it wasn't too busy. Ordered the Tocilog - which is sweet pork with a side of garlic fried rice, and an egg cooked any way you like. Also came with a side of noodles (pancit). Since I was here, decided to order some calamansi wings to go. And of course an ube milk tea. I really enjoyed my meal. The Tocino was a little different from what I'm used to. I'm used to a slab of pork pan fried with the fat fried to a slight crunch lol. I'm also used to tocino being red in color. I guess the tocino here is a little more leaner and no artificial colors - which works for me as I'm kinda allergic to red dye. But it tasted good, very flavorful. Loved the garlic rice as well. Pancit noodles were okay - could have used a little more seasoning but I could dig it Calamansi wings were low key fire. The crisp of the wings were perfection and the meat was not tough - still nice and juicy. I would get these again. They did have other flavors available that I need to come and try as well such as adobo and salt & pepper. Servers were nice and food came out pretty fast.

They take longer to make but they are economical and extremely nutritious. You can control the salt and fat content of your soup. Among my current favorites are the Ski Country Chili Mix and the Beef Barley Stew Mix. After a while, you begin to create your own version of these. I'll often substitute a lower fat meat like ground turkey or different vegetables than called for. My variations are a creative way to make the soup mine. Frontier includes the seasoning packets so you don't have to worry about that. I love adding unique twists like wine or sherry to enhance the flavors. My only complaint about Frontier is that they stop making some of the recipes, ones I loved so much. For instance the Red Bean Gumbo or the Wheat Berry Chili are no longer available. The New Mexico Mesa Stew was changed to an "instant" variety and it is not nearly as good! They still have great soups available. Try a few of the hearty ones. You'll love them.

Among the many things we scooped up were two Pacific Rim soup mixes, because I've always been a soup guy. Last month I whipped up a batch of their Pacific Rim Gingered Carrot & Coconut Soup. I had to add 2 whole pounds of cut up carrots, four cups of broth, a TB of brown sugar, and a can of unsweetened coconut milk. It went on the stovetop and an hour later (with an assist from my immersion blender) it was ready. It yielded 8 servings and was pretty good. Today I cooked up my second batch of their soup -this one had the tongue twisting name of "Nebraska Barn Raising Split Pea". I had to add 6 cups of broth and I swapped out some diced chicken from the freezer instead of the bacon they suggested. This time I made it in a crockpot instead of on the stovetop. You can either cook it on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 8 hours. I put it on low in the morning and by the time lunch rolled around at 1:00 i checked it and it was perfect. I was super happy with the way it came out and after it cools down I'll package it into some containers for refrigerating and freezing.
