Hellooooo! We live in Grayslake and we have never stopped in but today I needed lunch and was heading to Jewel to grab my groceries so I thought it'd be a great time to check it out. I'm a big fan of tortas, especially Milanesa de Pollo tortas. Man! This torta was delicious and mainly because it was flavorful. That's where most places fall short and to make up for it they load it with beans, cheese, sour cream. This did not need all of that, the chicken was seasoned well and overall the torta was great, rice and beans were cooked - like the homemade kind! I'll definitely be back! We went to Taqueria Cinco Hermanos for the first time tonight. Given the good reviews the restaurant has received I was expecting exceptional Mexican food, I was somewhat disappointed. The wait staff was excellent. We were seated promptly and they were all friendly and helpful. We received the salsa and chips. The salsa was very good, just the right amount of spice so we could not stop dipping the bagged chips into it, the chips were disappointing. My wife ordered a margarita, which she enjoyed. She got the shrimp burrito, which was massive, big enough for two people. There were left overs. I ordered enchiladas with red mole. It came with refried beans and rice. First, the food was warm, not hot, which I find a negative. The red mole had little flavor or chile heat. I also found the refried beans to be bland. Prices were fair but they changed 3.99% for using a credit card which is a pet peeve of mine. read more

I didn't expect much because it's in a strip mall, but this place is legit. Of course there was the tortilla chips and salsa when we sat down. Then they brought out 5 salsas in squeeze bottles and we knew it was gonna be good. I got the chicken enchiladas with all 3 sauces (red mole, green mole, and ranchero cheese sauce) because I couldn't decide between the sauces offered. The beans and rice that came with the enchiladas were great. I also got the pozole which I took home because it was just so much food. I got the horchata and that was solid. My date got the steak fajitas and he loved them. He also got a margarita and said it was exactly what you want out of a house margarita. This is my Lake County food addiction. I order from here probably a little too much, but I can't help it. I have dined in once before and they're attentive and the food is somehow even better (probably because there's no delay between the kitchen and your mouth). I don't live that far though so even having it delivered, it still arrives warm. My go-to's are the steak flautas, steak tacos, chile relleno, and the burrito. Always with chips and salsa on the side and an horchata. My preference is the red salsa, but the green is good too if you just want the flavor without the heat. The one time I dined in, I actually went with the steak tampiqueña. Highly recommend! read more

Overall a positive experience when it comes to the service and dining space. Plenty of space to sit. We had a party of 8 and were more than comfortable. Quick and attentive server. She was even kind enough to turn on a football game on the tv. Our party tried a variety of food - sopes, fajitas, burrito, tacos, and the kids hot dog/taco with fries. On Saturday, 13 December I lunched at Taqueria Cinco Hermanos in Grayslake with clients; we arrived about 1pm. We were invited to seat ourselves and did so; we were attended almost immediately by a friendly, personable waitress who took our drink orders. Our drinks arrived very quickly as well as a plate of tortilla crisps and a small bowl of salsa; the salsa was excellent, with a good, home-made flavour and a terrific 'kick' to it (but not too hot). I enjoyed it very much, and told the waitress this as well. Due to the cold weather, I ordered a hot coffee, which arrived in a very beautifully decorated mug; it arrived very quickly as well. The waitress commented on the mug and, again, was very friendly and personable. Our orders arrived VERY quickly, in less than five minutes; I ordered the steak tacos and they were DELICIOUS. Full of flavour and served with cilantro, onion, lettuce, and tomato (and not too much of this) and on soft flour tortillas. I ordered three; I should have ordered more! The tacos were served with several different salsas, including a habanero which was wonderful and a salsa verde which was not as spicy but still had a great flavour/kick to it. . (small comment: I am partial to hot, spicy food so I really liked this) . We had two (2) different waitresses; both stopped by the table several times to ask how our meal was and if we wanted anything else. The waitresses kept my water glass filled, and with plenty of ice! I'll make this a quick one. This was a really mixed experience overall. The space is nice and inviting, it was warm inside too which is always a plus around this time of year. Service was friendly and the food came out fast. We had a few different tacos, rice and beans, a tamale, and a gordita. The steak and chorizo tacos were a bit bland and over grilled but the lengua taco was more enjoyable. The tamale was solid but nothing special. The gordita was the best bite for sure, it had great flavors. I'd come back just for that. We were served some complimentary chips and salsa as well which is always appreciated. The food here was mostly underwhelming outside of the gordita but the price point and quality service make this spot a 3.5 star experience for me. This is my first time at this taqueria, and I was very satisfied with my meal! The restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall in Grayslake, and there is plenty of convenient parking. The festive ambiance and welcoming staff stood out to me! The menu is extensive, and I think they have specials which are listened on their Facebook page. I had the pozole rojo, which was so delicious! The broth was so flavorful, and there was a lot of tender meat! I also thought the tableware (bowls, plates, etc) was beautiful and added to the experience. My husband bought a ton of tacos, and they looked delicious as well. It has been a long time since I've gotten food from a restaurant that I felt is worth 5 stars. Usually the food will be good once and every other time it sucks, leaving me to update my review. I've now started to eat at places a few times before writing reviews to make sure I'm leaving accurate reviews. I've had food here 4 times and have yet to have a disappointing meal. I have gotten half the torta menu, tacos, soup, burittos, and guacamole appetizer; everything has been legit amazing. I have reheated tortas the following day and try are just as good; there isn't a single item I haven't loved. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful, they even gave us a taco each to try their barbacoa, which was amazing and flavorful. I am already planning to get the Cubana torta for dinner tonight! The establishment is clean and inviting, I cant wait to find the time to dine in! I hope this restaurant does amazing because it's a great addition to Grayslake. I want to like this place because it is so close to home but I was a bit disappointed. First of all, $8.99 for a small 1-2 oz of guacamole and chips?!!!!!!! Are you serious? You get a lot more for even fancy restaurants. It was a rip off. I had the steak torta. The bread was very chewy and it felt like it was heated in the microwave. The steak was okay, not bad. Overall, it was okay but I couldn't finish it because of the bread. Portion was fine. I wish the bread was fresh and crispy. I probably won't order that again. My husband had the tacos and he said they weren't bad. The service was good. Our waitress was nice and attentive. Not sure how this place is 5 star yelp restaurant. Overall, it was okay. So I've been going to Tacos el Norte in Lake Zurich for a long, long time. Then, one of their long-time workers left to help open a place of his own in Grayslake. So I wanted to go try it out. When you go in, it's a little place which seats around 40-50. The place is very nice inside. Nice bar, but unfortunately, I couldn't get enough room for some bar seats. But don't let the dissuade you. The food is delicious. And they have some items on there that are more traditional. I ordered a huarache with Lomo, two al pastor tacos, and a chorizo quesadilla. All were great, especially the crispness of the huarache. Their Lomo had more flavor and tenderness than Tacos el Norte. I will definitely be back for their Castillas Verde (ribs in green sauce). read more
