This place is now my go to place for some good tacos. I've heard this place is authentic and good for the price. I love their tacos! The service is pretty fast and the workers there are so nice. This place definitely needs more recognition!

Tongue please! I don't care what anyone says, I love me some lengua tacos! I've ordered for pickup from this location a few times and this was actually the first time I dined in. Glad to see it's expanded into a bigger space with plenty of seating because weekend mornings are definitely busy. I suggest looking at the menu online prior to coming in and ordering because that order line goes fast. You do not want to be that one person taking forever to make your choices. My order: De trompo taco- Pork, similar to Al pastors. Tasty! Lengua tacos- Yum! I've had many lengua tacos in my life and these are on my top list. They're chopped in smaller pieces and tender. The onions and cilantro give it the extra umpf. Their salsa verde is the real deal! Must drizzle tacos with it. Agua de Jamaica- Refreshing hibiscus tea. Best way to wash down tacos! This lovely taco place is oddly located on a road you wouldn't expect a lovely taco place to be. It's surrounded by small shops and businesses. For all my skeptics, don't pass on this taco joint. Friendly staff (majority speak Spanish), amazing tacos, and all the salsa verde your heart desires!

    Wonderful tacos

Great tacos, friendly service, and great prices. Simple enough, I'd be here every other day if I wasn't too lazy to leave the office for lunch. I got multiple types, chicken fajita, beef fajita, and barbacoa/beef belly. Barbacoa was definitely the favorite, but all were great. Love the sauce bottles, and the spicy mortar mixture (which you have to ask for). There are also plenty of seating areas inside, very simple, great for a quick delicious lunch! I'll definitely be back, will try everything I can!

Super homey taco joint. Nice service and simple but really tasty tacos. Breakfast served all day. Had the stewed beef tacos. Super fresh and full of flavor. Will definitely be back.

i come here all the time since it's really close to work. this here is a hidden gem. the lengua tacos i always get are the same amazing quality every time. i get them on corn tortillas the majority of the time, but this place also has the most yummy homemade tortillas. other things i've tried here that i 1000% recommend to everyone i've talked to about this place: lemonade, horchata, nachos, lamb soup. the service is also fast. whenever ordering to go, if it's busy, it usually still only takes 10 mins to get out the door. they also include a ton of green sauce and lime every single time.

    Beef Fajita...salsa sauce..mmmm

Hands down the best fajita taco with associated avocado and two types of sauces...you have to ask for the red sauce.. Super Hot!!!! .. really good.. 5 stars from me.. The service is excellent as well...

Tacos with homemade corn/flour tortilla - Tripa crispy, 1/5 - pretty much just fried fat - Cochinita pibil, 4.5/5 - top choice

TL;DR: I've been here once and the food/experience was fine until we went home. We might try again. On our annual trips to Isla Mujeres (off Cancun in Mexico), we eat 60% of our meals at this food stand where Mayra sells memelas with fresh pressed masa. Another spot we frequent has perfectly-cooked beef burritos and the best birria tacos. You can imagine we miss them every time we leave. So we embarked on our mission to find a comparable spot here in Houston. After all, we're the closest metropolis to Quintana Roo. There are quite a few taco spots in the geographical rectangle encased by Clay and West Little York, between Highway 6 and Gessner, and Tacos La Bala is one of them. There 3 other locations throughout Houston, and we tried out this spot. The restaurant is clean, and while service isn't overly friendly, it's fine. The menu is in both English and Spanish. The hubby commented that he likes how they wash the outsides of the sauce bottles (no drips or grease). The ordering is counter service. I was curious about the cecina plate but no one had posted a picture of it so I didn't want to risk it with a lower turnover item. We also asked for tacos with homemade corn tortilla. The tortilla itself tasted more like a mix between masa (corn flour) and flour, and while that wasn't up to snuff, we reminded ourselves that we are not in Mexico, and it was plenty good. Onto the tacos we got: - Tripa crispy, 1/5 - got this per reviews but this was pretty much just fried fat. I couldn't finish it. - Cochinita pibil, 4.5/5 - easy top choice! Best flavors and not as greasy - Lengua, 3.5/5 - pretty good - Barbacoa, 4/5 - good flavors but a bit too greasy for me I just realized they didn't give us any cotija cheese on our tacos. What the. I was surprised that the sauces and meat tasted barely seasoned. It's the first time I added table salt at a restaurant, but this is not a bad thing. I'd much rather add salt than to get over-salted food. The clear winner was the burrito that we got with two items (fajita and chicharrones, or pork skin) - off the menu but at $7.20 before tax and tip. The picture doesn't look great because I had already taken bites out of it, and the fluorescent light doesn't do anything for it, but it was yum. That said, we asked ourselves whether we would get this burrito at $9.25 or a Chipotle burrito at $14.50; the hubby says Chipotle (which is also nearly twice the size), and for me, I think it would depend on the mood. I can't say this place is comparable to our spot in Mexico, but we are not in Mexico, and this is a pretty affordable option for solid food. An easy 4/5, and when we're back, we'll ask for cheese and maybe try the sopes. Edit: I have to rank this down to a 3. Both of us had digestive issues the same night and into the next day, where I kept having oil come up the throat alongside tummy grumbles, and the hubby, well, not in the same direction. I think it's due to the quality and/or amount of oil used in the foods.

    Fajita, Trompo, and Lengua
    Bryan V.

Fajita tacos are my personal favorite here. Flavor is good and cooked well. The trompo tacos here are lacking in flavor and color compared to ones from a food truck. The lengua was very disappointing. It did not taste fresh and was lukewarm for some reason... The flour tortillas are alright... I don't think they're made fresh. Salsa verde is spicy and pretty good.

    Menu in English

Delicious tacos and menudo. Wide variety of meats. There is always a line at lunch but it moves fast.

To go breakfast tacos, more tortilla then egg.

More tortilla than egg on our breakfast tacos. Second time this has happen, I've think I won't be going back for breakfast again.

    What's could be better!?

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. All of the drinks were very pretty and it seemed like everyone enjoyed them, too! We started with their chips and salsa trio, which we all really liked. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

It definitely is enough for 2. The meat melts in your mouth. EVERYTHING is better quality than here. Teo charged $1.50 for perhaps 4 or 5 slices of lime to make the happy hour margaritas made with a gross mix drinkable. That's outrageous. It reminds me that I had stopped going long ago when they charged extra for onions on enchiladas. Come on. You don't charge extra for chopped onions! I have never been to another restaurant that does so. Some even provide carmelized grilled onions gratis. I'm convinced that a $15. YUMMY mango margarita at Pappasitos would have given us the same buzz & tasted better than 8 happy hour margaritas here. I used to love the in house made flour tortillas at Teo. Tonight they were tough & uneventful. We arrived on a week night when they were not busy. Neither of the salsas were as good as they used to be.The water pitcher didn't even have ice when they refilled the water. I have absolutely no desire to return. Why would I?

The restaurant has an intimate indoor space and adjacent covered patio. Both were already full when we arrived which created a lively atmosphere. We started with the aguachile de camaron as a starter and WOW my husband cannot stop talking about this dish. The perfect blend of textures and flavors - this will be a must for us every visit. We have had our eyes on the 5-course Chef Tasting Menu for $49 + the optional beverage pairing for $30. The experience felt more than fair for the price, especially by Houston standards. Each course felt thoughtful and slightly boundary-pushing, yet really approachable. My partner and I have been on a bit of a mole kick recently, so were very excited for the hanger steak with truffle mole. It absolutely delivered and would love to order this again! We were also heavily drawn to the tuna tartare starter, masa cornbread, and tres leches. The wine and drink parings were perfect and not too fruity. The brut rose was a perfect way to start and I always love a mezcal cocktail. I highly recommend anyone visiting to start with this Tasting Menu and leave the stress in the hands of Chef Adrian Torres! We had the pleasure of chatting with him briefly after our meal and were so impressed with his story and clear excitement he brings. The rest of the staff were equally kind and really added to the evening! Side note: We had the pleasure to attend Maximo's Cinco de Mayo block party and were so impressed by the community involvement bringing in local vendors and live music. It's definitely a smaller, cute neighborhood spot with a really fun vibe. The service was good. Our server was funny, attentive, and made the experience fun. We started with the "corn ribs" appetizer and WOW. Probably one of my favorite corn dishes I've had in a long time. So flavorful and addictive. We also got the "Tiradito de Hamachi" crudo, which was fresh and delicious! For the entree, my friend and I shared the tacos (which comes with your choice of 3). We added an extra taco to make it 4. I was genuinely shocked that the mushroom taco ended up being my favorite because I almost always prefer meat, but it was THAT good. The fried shrimp taco was also amazing. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake. I'm usually not a huge fan of strawberry or fruit toppings on desserts, but the cake itself was really, really good. I ended up just removing the strawberries and eating the cake, which was moist and flavorful. The only downside for me was the drinks. They looked larger than they actually were because of the glassware, and they tasted a little watered down. I had two, and they just weren't very strong or super flavorful. Other than that though, the food and service absolutely made up for it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

I prefer traditional homemade Mexican food but here we are. (Oh I googled and suggested this place lol) Went in for a team lunch on a Friday. Coworker's birthday lunch and she wanted Mexican. Party of 9 and we were seated promptly. They have a lunch menu and a happy hour as well as a full menu and full bar. The interior was nicely decorated. And open. There is bar seating and patio seating as well. Our waitress was Aisha and she was amazing. Friendly, helpful and patient. And able handle our large group and a few more tables with a smile. There were a variety of options. Salads, fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, etc. Also complimentary chips and salsa. My Order: chicken tortilla soup, lunch fajitas combo - chicken and beef. Chicken tortilla soup (3.5/5) - it was a bit salty for me but I am not a salt person so most things are salty to me; everyone else said it was tasty, there were tons of shredded chicken, avocado pieces, tortilla strips Fajitas - combo (4/5) - chicken was seasoned well and the beef (medium rare) was perfection and so tender and juicy, mexican rice was fluffy, and normally I would pass on the beans and get extra rice but my coworker suggested the charro beans and wow, that was a win - the seasoning was great, there were chunks of meat and the texture was nice, the only thing that could have been done better is the flour tortillas - they over-charred them making them too crispy and left them with a burnt taste. A couple of people got the elote salad and raved about it. So that will be a next time try. Def will be back. Everyone enjoyed their meals and some even ordered food to go. Would recommend.
