I had an extremely disappointing experience here yesterday--unfortunately, we never even made it to dinner. The experience started poorly with the valet attendants, whom we found to be rude, dismissive, and very unprofessional. It was such an unpleasant first impression that my wife and I mentioned it to the hostess when we went inside. Unfortunately, things did not improve. The hostess seemed completely unconcerned about our experience and simply informed us that the wait for a table was approximately two hours. While deciding whether our party should wait or go elsewhere, I went to the bar to order a drink. After ordering, the bartender told me that if I was only having a drink, I needed to move. Apparently, sitting at the bar required ordering a meal. At that point, we had experienced enough. Between the unpleasant valet experience, the indifferent response at the hostess stand, the two-hour wait, and then being told I couldn't sit at the bar simply to have a drink while we decided what to do, the overall message was clear: we did not feel welcome here. My wife, the rest of our party, and I decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. A busy restaurant is understandable. A long wait is understandable. What is much harder to understand is making prospective customers feel unwelcome at nearly every point of contact. Service: waitress: was sweet and she took our order and checked on us 3 times the entire meal. She did not ask or offer any type of hot sauce or other condiments when my food was delivered to the table. Manager: this is what really cost them, tried to deny me entry because of my service dog. Said he had to call the owner because they didn't allow pets. I told the manager that it was a servive dog who was working. Then after calling the owner, still tried to talk me out of eating there. The manager and owner need to learn the laws that protect people with disabilities that require service animals. The main restaurant wasn't open yet, but the one next door was. Parking is pretty limited, but they do offer valet for a donation. The food was delicious, and the portions were huge! The service is okay, our server was very occupied and not prepared to take our order the first two times he came to the table. The first time was to introduce himself, the 2nd time he said he was bringing samples of the fajitas and birria for us to try (even though we ere ready to order). So he comes back with the samples and we're ready to order a drink because it's been 20 minutes by the time he returned again. Man I've never physically been to this spot in person, but I've ordered from door dash previously and ordered a burrito with steak and shrimps, overall it was greasy, salty and the meat tasted dry. I decided to give them another chance through door dash it was the same experience. Ordered a burrito bowl (steak, cilantro rice, tortilla strips) instead and stake and shrimp egg rolls. The many of the lettuce pieces were wilted, the meat had this peculiar taste, as if whatever they were cooking the meat on was also being cooked with other proteins. The meat was super greasy and tasted like it had been sitting. Just the smell tasted like old food. The tortilla strips were stale. The cilantro rice tasted like it was store bought in bulk and it also had a funny taste that I can't explain you just have to taste it (or not) well maybe I can explain... it tasted like old rice ?? Overall I didn't even finish the burrito bowl. On to the steak and shrimp egg rolls. Suuupperrrr greasy! The only saving grace was the shrimp kind of, but I didn't finish the egg rolls neither because the steak tasted the same as I explained in the bowl. This place stays packed!! We got lucky with finding a free parking spot. They do $20 valet. The restaurant is truly vibrant with colors and culture. Went in around 1p and for a party of 2, we were told it was going to be over an hour for a wait. Put our name down cause we were just gonna go somewhere for a bit to help past time. This was my first time at Dona Leti's, and I had heard a lot about it, so I was excited to check it out. I was honestly a little nervous about parking, but I ended up finding a spot right away as soon as I pulled into the lot, which felt like a win. As soon as I sat down at the bar, I was greeted and given chips and salsa, which I appreciated. The space was pretty full with a line outside, but it did not feel overly loud or overwhelming, which made for a comfortable atmosphere. They have new soft-serve margaritas, so I got the strawberry mango swirl. It was really good. I do think adding an extra shot would take it from good to great, so I would recommend that if you can. The only downside was the price. At $21, it felt a bit expensive for a drink in Houston. For food, I had the birria tacos with consommé, rice, and all the fixings. They were good, but I would not say I was blown away. I would definitely come back and try something else next time. The menu is huge so you should have no problem finding something you like! The surf and turf egg rolls are already on my list. One thing I will say is the portions are huge. This is definitely a place where you can share, or plan to have leftovers for later. We thought the food was good. Nothing spectacular. The chips and salsa were good as well. Also, our server was very kind! I've been here plenty of times, and I'd say the more popular this place gets, the worse the customer service becomes. Today we had the displeasure of being served by Juan and his trainee. Two tables that were seated after us were served before we were. We even had to ask if he had forgotten about us. He walked by our table multiple times without bringing chips and salsa, and when he finally did, he refilled another table's chips before bringing us any. Several times they left to get items we requested and never returned with them, forcing us to ask again. The soft-serve alcoholic drink tasted very strong, but surprisingly had little to no effect. I don't drink often and didn't even get a buzz. The Surf & Turf Egg Rolls also seemed off. The filling tasted strange, and there was only four shrimp split between all four egg rolls. My fellow co-managers and some of our administrative team went out to eat here during lunch last month. I've only ordered beef fajita street tacos before via DoorDash. The beef fajita street tacos with corn tortillas came in a pack of 5 and was loaded with meat. On the side, it had grilled onions and one grilled jalapeño. It was so good with the lime and hot sauce. I would order this again. I pass by Doña Leti's every day on the way to work when I'm at my Spring Branch office. It's an awkward location when you're coming from the opposite direction. You have to take a u-turn. It is a very short space between those turning right from the I-10 exit and the entrance to the valet or parking area, if you can find a space. The hotel has blocked off spaces that will tow, so be mindful of that. The valet is by tip. It's inconvenient because once they pull your car they have to go back out the street into that limited space, and you still have to do the same to exit. With the cars turning right or going straight, you have to wait a while. Tabatha was our server. She told us we had a 2-hour dining limit. We weren't planning on staying that long because work, but she was so attentive and personable. One of our admin team members ordered shrimp enchiladas, and she brought out the 2 sauces for her to try first before selecting. Everyone enjoyed their food. I decided to try something different, so I had their birria taco plate which was loaded with meat. It came with rice, beans, bacon-wrapped jalapeño and a consommé with ramen. I didn't like this entree as much as the beef fajita street tacos. The rice was kind of sticky and lacked flavor. The birria tacos were a large portion, so I ate one and took the rest to-go. After a while, everything just tasted salty. Their chips and red and green salsa were the best. I could snack on that all day. Their French fries are ok with a little crispy texture to it. Despite the horrible location and parking situation, I would come here again for tacos and the great service. The decor was vibrant and colorful and the seating was intimate but enough space between tables that you didn't feel claustrophobic. The food was delicious. We shared the dip trio which included corn dip, queso and guacamole. The guacamole and queso were delicious and standard but the corn dip had a nice sweetness to it that was unexpected. We also enjoyed the standard house margarita and a strawberry margarita which were both strong and tasty. My pregnant friend enjoyed the strawberry lemonade. Our food was huge portions and affordable prices. My fajita steak bowl was delicious and plentiful that I'll have leftovers for the next two days. The icing on the cake is the birthday celebrations that come with two free shots of tequila. The downside is they do not take reservations so our wait estimate was 2 hours. We ended up waiting about 1 hour and 45 minutes. They text you to let you know when the table is ready and you have to claim your table with in 3 minutes. Once we got a table, we tried the soft serve margs and they were delicious. So smooth and a good mix of tart, sweet, and spicy. And they def packed a punch! We had Sunday funday, it was a little late in the day but always a wait. They told us 1 hour and yes it was about that time, it's great that you can track yourself in line. We sat on patio and they brought out ice cold water such a great thought and then the waiter brought out chips and salsa but we were next in line so we opted out. The weather was not as hot as it could be, but hot nevertheless. Food was amazing and the server checked on us often. We watched the game which also an added plus. The manager stopped by to see if all was well. The only downside they own the whole parking lot but it's still so much confusion with self parking. read more
