We ordered a few cocktails, the El Segundo Classico, a classic margarita, and the Oaxaca Peach Old Fashioned made of blanco tequila and a bit of mezcal, very refreshing to start off with. Our servers recommended a few different menu items. The Pimento Cheese Elote Dip small plate was delicious. We then moved on to the tacos - the Brisket Burnt Ends, the Chicharron Ceviche, and the Cali Fish (my favorite). The Cali Fish was nicely fried and just a bit of heat and slightly sweet slaw. Also tried the Birria Tacos and the Burrito, both great. We loved sitting outside in front of the restaurant. There are few artist studios across the parking lot. I thought El Segundo was a solid 4.5/5.

El Segundo has ample indoor and outdoor seating. Though slammed, I sat at the bar and met Connor. His beer "is so cold, your teeth will hurt." That statement is a sign on Isla Majure. The menu is awesome. Prices are great. It was tough to finish my blackened chicken burrito! Deliciosa!!! But what makes this place vibe is the young staff. They rock! And they got each other's 6. I witnessed this as Sam was pouring one of their famous margaritas. As she was close to empty with her container, Connor does a stealthy maneuver and slips in another container for her. Sam did not miss a beat because of Connor. Everyone and I mean everyone connects. It is worth your time. Enjoy the local art too.

I ordered a margarita from the happy hour menu--well priced and absolutely delicious. My husband had tacos with rice and beans, and I ordered the ribeye with chimichurri sauce. I asked for my steak medium, and it came out a bit more rare than expected, but the staff handled it graciously and made it right. Once corrected, it was delicious. The chips and salsa were very tasty, and while the spicy salsa wasn't quite as spicy as we expected, it still had great flavor. The staff was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming throughout our visit. We would absolutely return.

The guacamole is delicious and the chips are homemade. Really good! I had the hibiscus agua fresca and my daughter had the Rivales margarita. Both were wonderful. For dinner we all had tacos . I had the el hongo and al pastor. Both were scrumptious. My daughter had a fish taco and a shrimp taco. She liked both but rated the shrimp taco the highest. My niece had the ribeye, carne asada and al pastor tacos. Nothing left on her plate, so she must have liked them! The tacos look small, but they are generously filled. I was comfortably full. I understand why my niece is a repeat customer. I would go again

The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance--fun and laid-back, but with a touch of elevated Southern charm. The staff is always warm, friendly, and accommodating, and they consistently make us feel welcome. Their specialty cocktails are excellent--creative, well-balanced, and worth a visit all on their own. We're planning to return this Sunday for their jazz brunch, and I'll update this review afterward. Looking forward to seeing how Sassafras delivers in the daylight with live music!

We ordered the burger, a fresh seasonal salad, and a few selections from their oyster menu, which is now one of my favorites in the area. We also discovered they have a happy hour menu with a great variety of options--definitely coming back to explore more of that. However, I know from traveling that some of the best spots are ones that appear to be a hole in the wall. I walked in, very cute inside! Staff was welcoming and I cozied right up at the bar to wait for my friend. I was immediately brought chips and salsa and a cold beer. We ended up sitting at a high top and our waitress suggested that I try either carne asada from the Mexican menu or Vaca Frita from the Cuban menu. I love me some carne asada but I was intrigued but this 'fried shredded beef' that was marinated in mole and cooked in a hot skillet until crispy. She suggested sweet plantains to go with it and white rice with beans which is traditional Cuban (instead of yellow rice). IT WAS FABULOUS! It was crispy on the outside and juicy. The mole was flavorful but not spicy and i appreciated that the meat was not dripping in sauce. My dinner date ordered chicken tamales which were seasoned in a Cuban style with yellow rice. She is used to Mexican tamales but said these really hit the spot! The only blemish on the nice was her second margarita which was the cucumber one which she didn't like at all. However, the first one she ordered (pictured) which was a different flavor was a show stopper.
