I had been wanting to visit Tacos La Jefa for quite some time last year - so what better way to bring in 2025! Tacos for breakfast? Absolutely! The lovely young lady at the restaurant was polite and patient as I navigated through the menu. I ordered the birria plate while my partner ordered the chilaquiles. Our food was FRESH!!! My birria, probably the best I've had. Slow cooked, tender, and seasoned. Some places I noticed rely on the consumé for seasoning and flavor and the meat itself does not carry much of the flavor. In fact, I was brought out a full 8oz cup of consumé to go along with it. Overall, very delicious. Will be back.

let's keep this short and simple. they're been on my wishlist. and they met my expectations. super kind staff, and cute little color interior (with seating), and great food. the horchata was delicious, and the tacos had plenty of meat with a fabulous consumé. it wasn't greasy like some places' broth. will definitely be back!

I can't stop thinking about this place. Wanted to try for years and finally took the 45 minute drive down. Worth it. Service was phenomenal. We got the beef quesabirria plate and a small chicken quesabirria, elote, and Pineapple soda for around $30. They threw in duritos and a strawberry cream popsicle. Red sauce was flavorful with the right amount of spice. Quality flavor in everything. Just go. You have not tried quesabirria if you haven't tried it from here.

I have been meaning to check out this place for a long time and finally got to do so recently! They're in a small brick and mortar location shared with other restaurants, so you walk up to the counter and order, then they bring your food out to your number. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I got four mini quesabirrias which were the special of the day (birria beef, steak, and chorizo). The small ones come in a corn tortilla and the large ones in flour. I especially enjoyed the flavor of the birria beef, and thought the salsa had a nice smokiness to it and wasn't too spicy. The fresh onions and cilantro added a great freshness as well. The steak and chorizo were also good, but I felt like they were more small tacos with cheese melted in them rather than dipped in a broth. I will definitely be back when I have time and look forward to trying out the rest of their menu!

Came to this unassuming place because I was craving Mexican food. I'm from Texas, so I was avoiding getting Mexican food here because I knew I'd be disappointed. However, the cravings finally hit so I caved in. I got the birria burrito here. Lots of seating around, and you pay at counter. It was busy so I think it was about 10-15 minutes for my burrito. The actual burrito itself was surprisingly good. The crisp/gently-fried exterior was very well-contrasted with the soft interior. The rice, beans, and birria were super well-seasoned. The meat was very rich and flavorful. The salsa was tangy enough to cut through some of the richness of the burrito. Not to mention, the entire burrito was very hefty. Only thing I wish was that I got a side of the actual birria consome, but alas, mistakes were made. I was very impressed by this burrito, and I want to come back to actually try birria tacos themselves, with the consome included. But based on how this burrito went, I wouldn't expect anything less than amazing. 5/5 stars, good enough for a little Texas-boy. Will definitely come back.

Did you know La Jefa means "the boss" this spot's story is about a matriarch's special recipe for birria tacos. Us St. Louis Foodies went to eat at Urban Eats on Meramec. Love this Food Hall. There are many options for all palates and dietary restrictions. Tacos La Jefa is a spot at Urban Eats. Had to stop and get the fish tacos for Fish Friday! The fish tacos were huge. This is not a bad piece of fish. This is a huge piece of fresh fish. It was perfectly fried with pico de gallo, avocado, and freshly made corn tortillas. This spot is no joke on authentic Mexican food. Stop by and give them some love! You'll love Urban Eats!

We went to the Dia De Los Muertos (day of the dead) street festival in the Delmar Loop and we ate at their booth. I ordered two street tacos, one asada and one carnitas and a chicken quesabirria. The street tacos did not have cheese which was okay because I ordered an extra taco. The meat in the street tacos was tender but a little under seasoned. The chicken in the quesabirria was shredded but it was a little chewy. The flavors were good and it was filling. I will visit their restaurant soon.

I needed good Quesabirria in St. Louis because I just moved here and this was recommended by a friend and DELIVERED. The quesabirria plate is more expensive than what I would expect ($17 for 3 tacos) but I am tempted to forgive it because the corn tortillas are crispy and flavorful, the tacos are so cheesy, the meat is juicy, and the consommé is beyond flavorful. The plate also comes with cilantro and onions which just add a perfect freshness to the whole ensemble, as well as a spicy salsa. Will definitely be coming back here for authentic quesabirria.

Absolutely exceptional. Tacos La Jefa has been on the top of my brain since I saw their birria excellence on here, and I knew I had to make it there sooner than later. I checked the hours before I went, because I know they're not open during dinner hours, and more of a lunch spot. I ended up going at 2pm on a Saturday. The spot is located in Urban Eats. Once you go inside, go straight back and it's on the right hand side. I wanted to make sure I ordered what I was craving, and the staff member working talked me through the menu. I waited about 5-10 minutes for my order. They got it out fairly quickly, and I'll definitely wait for fresh and high quality. I got the beef quesabirria and it was everything I thought it would be. Cheesy, crispy, and absolutely delicious. The consume was flavorful and truly completed the meal. I want to come back and try everything. Thanks for a delicious Saturday!

Came by because I heard some talk that there was good birria, and it did not disappoint. Crazy good in all aspects, crispy shell, generously portioned meat, abundant cheese, and tons of consomme to dip, The salsa is also an amazing taste, though a bit spicy. Service was great, Food was served fast and burning hot, and they explain anything you'd like from the menu. The cafeteria style building theyre in is nice inside, and has options for other restaurants.

Tacos La Jefa is a not-so-hidden gem in South St. Louis serving up authentic Jalisco style birria inside Urban Eats. They've recently expanded their hours, so there's no reason not to visit! We always order the quesabirria- so much cheese, lots of tender meat, and a crazy delicious consommé for dipping. We also ordered their strawberries and cream last time. Lots of strawberries, lots of whipped cream, but also, it's kind of a drink? You'll love it regardless. Have you been? Tacos la Jefa is inside Urban Eats in the Dutchtown neighborhood. I finally had a chance to try this little St. Louis gem. The birria tacos did not disappoint. Authentic and delicious! I also tried the chorizo taco and it was excellent as well. We were smart to go on a Sunday because I've heard this place can get crowded. Only waited 15 minutes for the taco heaven to arrive at our table. If you consider yourself a taco lover, you should check this place off your list.

Birria Tacos beef & chicken and I forget the name of the other one. It starts with a v, but whatever it was it was DELICIOUS!!!

The food is AMAZING! THE family is PHENOMENAL, and the atmosphere is always peaceful. Ive been to several places in St. Louis for several, many were not worth writing about, but this these most definitely are. Stop by and show them so love, beautiful people, with authentic food and beautiful vibes!!! I love's! You will too, and of course they are cooked to order. I forgot to add that their customer service is just as great as they are!!!! They make you feel like family

Mi Tierra Bonita Mexican Grocery Store (3203 Collinsville Rd, Fairmont City, IL 62201)…read more My love wanted to take me to a place near and dear to him: the very first Mexican restaurant he and his late father dined at when they first moved to St. Louis. It is located in Fairmont City, not too deep into Illinois, situated by farmland and near the raceway. The place is like a mullet: business in the front (store) and a party in the back (restaurant). The aisles of the store have everything one would need, from food staples to household items. We were warmly greeted by our waitress, who proved to be super attentive during our visit--even after we paid. We ordered a top-shelf pitcher of strawberry margaritas. It was a huge pitcher for $32, came with a side pitcher of ice, and we were able to make a total of 12 glasses out of it. They started us off with chips and salsa. The chips were made of super-duper corn and came with two spicy table salsas. For our appetizer, we had guacamole. It was freshly made but lacked salt and lime for what we are used to, so I took my lime from my margarita and squeezed it over the guacamole to make it better. I ordered à la carte: one quesabirria, a grilled chicken taquito, and a chicken gordita. The taquito and quesabirria were on point. The gordita was not the mainstream version of what I had been used to seeing, but still good. I would definitely return!

Before today, the only Mexican places I've actually enjoyed in over a year living in the area are Frida's in Fairview Heights and Agavero in Collinsville, and honestly, Agavero is just okay. Visiting Tienda El Ranchito today was a breath of fresh air and I'll definitely be back! Their salsa is more of a pico de gallo with a slight bit of heat from de-seeded jalapeños, but it was delicious. I had the al pastor and chicken tacos, with rice and beans, and my spouse had the carnitas, and all were great. Their beverage cups are large, which is nice, and the service was fast and friendly. Be aware, their main sign at the road is currently broken/missing anything that says their name. The front of the premises when you first walk in the door is actually a grocery store - the restaurant is in the back. Also, as many area restaurants do, they have an additional charge to pay with a credit card. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

I'd never heard of it, and I may have never visited, if it weren't for the fact that I was meeting a group here. I'm against both cultural appropriation and food that doesn't have any meat in it. There are no vegan Mexican restaurants in Mexico, right? Do they refer to regular Mexican restaurants as Mexican restaurants, or just restaurants? I've often wondered the same thing about Chinese restaurants in China. Certainly, they don't call them what we call them here. I don't even think they do that elsewhere in the US. Terror Tacos has tables named after horror films and a QR code-based ordering system. I was lucky that my group selected a table named after the Lost Boys, a staple of my childhood. Death by stereo! I've seen old people get up and leave restaurants because they preferred not to order via QR code, or they couldn't figure it out. It's a testament to Terror Tacos uncompromising nature that they employ such a system. I mean, if you couldn't already tell that from the decor. I briefly considered seeing if they had any real meat in the back they could put in my tacos, then decided I'd better not. Old people might consider dining elsewhere anyway, for the protein. Apparently, there's a pizza place across the street that also doesn't serve meat. On my run, in the neighboring streets, I saw several people kinda stooped over. Was it the vegan food, or the drugs, or a little bit of both? I kid Terror Tacos, but this was honestly great. In a few cases, I could hardly tell I was eating fake meat. Some of the meat substitutes were obviously not real, but still not half bad for what they were. If they used these same recipes with actual meat, they'd have a line down the block and around the corner, as if they were selling especially potent heroin. You can get tacos in a flight, like at a winery, and if you order at least five of them each one is discounted. Five is probably more than most people need, but not anything I couldn't handle. When I mentioned that I ordered five tacos, members of my group were shocked and concerned. It's that kind of group. They use a lot of go containers, which I'd oppose philosophically even if I needed them. An obvious standout was the Basic Witch, basically their version of one of the regular crunchy tacos at Taco Bell. It's surprisingly similar, but more hefty. It'll run you, but it's the cheapest of the tacos on offer here, and if you get five of them, they knock a couple of dollars off. If I return, which of course would only be because I was meeting someone, I might do just that. The other ones were pretty good too. I appreciated some of the other fake-meat options because they were spicier, but I didn't care for the texture as much on the ones that were meant to resemble whole cuts of meat, like a steak. The guy who brought them out pointed to each one and said what they were, but I immediately forgot. I know I had the Citrus Mistress, the Cowboy from Hell and a Quesabirria. Anyway, individual names are less important when it's all just ground up agricultural byproduct, soy and various other things RFK Jr almost certainly wouldn't approve of. The key is that they've somehow gotten it all to taste not half bad. They may have made a deal with the devil.
