Amazing food and service. Hole in the wall feel. Most authentic Mexican food I've had in St Louis.

The special with asada was on point.

This one is tough for me since I am the first reviewer and I want this place to do well, but a few things fell short with the first being the price, and because your near the airport you can't have in-airport pricing. $14 dollars for the burrito pictured is too high IMO. Moving onto the burrito, the provided salsas were delicious, the asada was underwhelming and lacked flavor and crispiness expected in a well prepared carne asada. Additionally, there was very little steak with majority of the burrito being beans and rice with the ratio off IMO. In a 14 dollar asada burrito there better be some meat, some in each bite. On to the service, it was outstanding. Menu arrived quickly as well as the ordered water, followed by the burrito about 10 minutes later, brought initially with only red, I was offered green and it was brought immediately back. Overall, I will give it another chance because it opens early at 6am and has more than Mexican fare and is extremely close to the airport. The restaurant is spotless, just hope they will pay attention to what I consider is important. I have often stated that yelp really needs 1/2 stars because I believe this currently sits at a 3.5 stars, but prices are a little out of line if I was wanting to stop in for lunch. $18 for a burrito with water and tip is high!

Food is fantastic, I highly recommend. There was just one guy running the whole joint and I mean serving and cooking.

Certainly, I'd rather not go to a Chipotle, where you risk gastrointestinal distress in exchange for less food than they used to give you, for even more money; or Taco Bell, which actually costs more than Chipotle now, despite still being Taco Bell. Enter Abelardo's Mexican Fresh, which somehow (ostensibly) combines the quality of a fancy sit-down restaurant with the convenience of a fast-food restaurant. Not only do you not have to go inside to get your food, you couldn't go inside if you wanted to. There's probably an alarm that would trigger if you tried. There's all kinds of signs and stickers on the building's exterior warning of alarm systems and the restaurant's right to refuse service to anyone for any reason, Title IX notwithstanding. There's a little window where you can get out of your car and order, if you just have to. You don't have to worry, if you're wearing pajamas. It's not the kind of neighborhood where you're going to be judged for that sort of thing. The menu is entirely too extensive. But you get the sense that, as is the case with the aforementioned Taco Bell, it's all 1001 different combinations of the same few ingredients. You probably couldn't go wrong with just throwing a dart at the thing and seeing where it lands, unless you're Stevie Wonder, in which case you might put someone's eye out. I wanted to get a combination that had both a taco and a burrito, so I could try both items, but the only one I saw had ground beef in both. So I went with one that came with two carne asada burritos, refried beans and rice. I suppose I could have just ordered à la carte, but I wasn't feeling up to it emotionally. I noticed the bag, when they handed it to me, was surprisingly heavy, like they accidentally gave me someone else's order. I wasn't about to complain. This is a proper Mexican establishment, so there was no risk of there being anything gluten free or otherwise inappropriate for an adult male. But no, this was my order. It's just a lot of food. The two-burrito combination plate seems like it would be two small burritos instead of one large burrito (which seems stupid), but it's really two fairly large burritos. At $15 and some change, it might be the single most expensive thing on the menu, but it's not expensive in an absolute sense, by 2025 standards. This place packs great value. The carne asada wasn't the most high quality beef in the world, and it's a little bit dry, which I attribute both to how thoroughly it's cooked and how it's served. There's nothing in the burrito but meat, a few peppers and maybe a little pico. Presumably, this is a more authentic version of the dish, like a chili with no beans in it. It benefits from the hot sauce they give you with it, which is legitimately hot and redolent of actual peppers. The tortillas were similarly high quality and, if taste is any indication, not good for you. The refried beans were lacking in salt compared to the kind that come in a can, which are amongst my favorite things in the world, but that's probably more a testament to the utter savagery in which I was raised than anything else. Sitting in the drive thru, I was reminded of the Oreo cookie shakes I would get from the Jack in the Box that used to be here. If they could somehow put that on the menu, this would be the GOAT restaurant. As it is, it's not half bad.

Inside, it's simple, comfortable, and exactly what you hope for when you're searching for an authentic hidden gem. No gimmicks. No over-designed decor. Just the hum of conversation, plates coming out of the kitchen, and a dining room filled with people who clearly know they've found a place to break bread. Er-- tortillas. I ordered the Pollo a la Plancha, and it was outstanding. Grilled chicken served with perfectly seasoned vegetables, fluffy and flavorful Mexican rice, and warm corn tortillas. I asked them to hold the melted cheese (because dairy and I are currently in a complicated relationship), and it was still one of the best gluten-free meals I've had in a long time. Fresh, satisfying, and packed with flavor. My husband ordered the Norteño tacos, which arrived piled high with toppings and absolutely loaded with flavor. And yes, they come with fries. I had never seen this combination before, but I can confirm it is life-changing. He enjoyed every bite. Before the main meal even arrived, we were hooked by the complimentary chips, salsa, and a bright green crema that came with a serious kick. Spicy enough to get your attention, but so good you keep going back for more. This is the kind of restaurant you almost don't want to tell people about because it feels like a secret. But places this good deserve to be celebrated. Authentic food, generous portions, warm service, and the unmistakable feeling that you've stumbled onto something special. Five stars without hesitation.

Great sign to us that people love coming here. We ordered the chicken flautas, shrimp tacos, a barbacoa taco, elote in a cup, and a strawberry Agua fresca. The food was wonderful! My favorite was the chicken flautas. They were very crisp but the chicken inside was so moist. The toppings and the salsa was a wonderful addition. They really need to bottle and sell that salsa. It was some of the best we've had. I'm a non beef eater but my husband said the barbacoa was . He said it was hard to determine his favorite between that and the flautas but if he had to choose it's the barbacoa because it was juicy and very flavorful. It also held together well in the corn tortillas. He wished he ordered more than one. The strawberry Agua fresca was very tasty. It reminded me of a strawberry milkshake. The portions are so plentiful and the menu has so many choices. We are looking forward to trying new things. We were so full we didn't get to try desserts, as it is a Paleteria, but we will most definitely be back!
