Yelp to the rescue again! As with another yelper, I also grew up in Southern California, and spent half my life there. And then spent another 15 in Texas, and ate my way all over the Southwest. Get there early - when I arrived at 7, they were out of carne asada and picodillo. I ended up getting the taco dinner with carnitas. It ended up being a very good choice; most times I get carnitas, the meat is fatty and too chewy for my taste. These carnitas were lean, and muy delicioso. My heart skipped a beat when I saw they had elotes (Mexican corn). It's just as good as what I would get at 2 am at Fuel City in Dallas. I also got a couple churros for the road (my plan was to dip them in a Culver's concrete mixer, but they didn't make it that far). The churros were fresh out of the fryer, nice and hot and crunchy. I was too full to try the tamales. Maybe next time. They now accept credit cards with a minimum purchase of $5. Joliet is lucky to have this place. You will never look at Taco Bell the same. It's kind of difficult to get to it, just follow the US 52 signs. It's worth the drive. read more

Great food when my company started ordering from here weekly a few months ago. The quality started going downhill fast, everything started becoming either super greasy and under cooked, or burnt to a crisp. Almost always, something was missing from the orders or the order was grossly incorrect. It was usually something small so we never tried to recoup any money or go back to get the item since the place is about 4 miles away. The most recent trip involved a whole plate of tacos missing, and that was the last straw. Tried calling to remedy the issue, no answer at any time during the day (tried numerous times at different hours). On the website it says to email them, did that, never got a response. Showed up the next day to inform them of their mistake with the receipt, they claimed complete ignorance over a few bucks. I hope they miss the $50+ we spent there at least once a week, because we are never going back due to declining food quality and terrible customer service. Back to El Comal it is! read more

This has to be one of the cutest taco joints I've visited. The front of the stand looks jyst like a taco food truck, but peeking through the order window it's a full serve kitchen (not opened to the public). They offer tacos, burritos, tortas, and Mexican style corn. After placing your order, they will call your number over the intercom where you pick it up from the "pick up" window. When I had parked here, everyone was eating in their car , I thought it must be that good they can't wait until they get home to eat. Well it is that and the fact that there is no seating, it's winter so maybe in the summer (I'm not a local). I had the steak burrito and it was seasoned well. Excellent tacos, great prices! Hubby got 3 steak tacos with everything (tomatoes, cheese, onions, cilantro &salsa) and I got 2 steak tacos traditional (cilantro & onions). So fresh and so tasty! $3 for a giant bag of chips and large cup of salsa. Only bummer was that I ordered rice but got frijoles instead. But as you can see from the pic we got tons of food for $13! I ordered 4 Asada tacos and 1 Carnita These tacos are beyond over priced and under flavored. The woman who took my order had an attitude the whole time. And when I asked for chile she told me they don't have any but on my receipt it clearly states "salsa on the side" and when you go to their website it clearly shows Chile on the picture of the tacos. My tacos look like ground beef and taste like ground beef. My limes are dried up and I'm not happy at all. I don't recommend this place to anyone. I went here seeing they had a 4 star rating and I'm just confused as to how? Attitude was given to me, nasty half ass tacos were sold to me and mind you I paid $26 for 5 tacos and 2 sides of rice when I can go somewhere closer with real authentic tacos and pay less for better. The reason this place doesn't get more than 3 stars is because all the food, except the tacos, just isn't very good. The tamales are extremely disappointing and their tortas are just... so-so. But!
