We have been coming to G3 America Martial Arts since late October/ early November. My daughter was…read moreacting out in school and in after care, and the after school program offered us a step toward the solutions we were looking for. It's not all roses. So, here, I will list the pros and cons of this program and the staff. The first pro is the cost. The base after-school program is only slightly more in price than the after school program (ASP) available on site for most schools. There is an option to pay extra to extend the pickup time from 6 PM to 7 PM or 8 PM depending on your needs. This can be great for parents in healthcare or shift work. Prices change, so, I'm not gonna quote any. Second pro is the ease. They pick your child up at school and shuttle them to the facility/ studio. They have a fleet of vans available for picking up kids at multiple schools. They are licensed, insured, and having found their phone number off the back of a van, I can say they are conservative drivers. Also, they offer a winter break camp and break it down week by week so working parents can get child care coverage on days they are working. Third pro is the structure. This was actually a big selling point for us. They have designated homework time before the martial arts class. They have a schedule of activities and they follow it. This structured environment has helped my ADHD daughter. She complains about the rank and file discipline, and I consider that a success. The next thing I do not consider a pro or a con. The program is not seated in eastern philosophy as traditional martial arts programs are. This is a Christian faith based program. They have a rotation of principles they focus on weekly with a supporting bible verse/ passage. Frankly, I could do without it, but it doesn't hurt, and I do believe in parochial education. Now for the cons. Extras. So, the monthly price only covers regularly scheduled school days. This means there are additional fees for non-school days. The earlier mentioned winter break camp is also an additional cost. Then there are the rituals and rigamarole around progressing to the next belt/ rank level. This isn't going to be for everyone. This brings me to the hot button that made me deduct stars. When it comes to my child, I consider myself to be the final authority. So, when I say I don't want my 6 year old to participate in X or Y or Z, I expect my parental authority to be respected. I also expect that "no means no" is a philosophical tenet to be respected and followed. Maybe I'm just an uppity feminist like that or maybe I just follow humanism and existential individualism through my daily life. Regardless, I received a rude awakening when my "no" to having my daughter participate in one aspect of their offerings was not only disrespected and disregarded, but my very rights as an individual were flat out ignored. True to any retail business, they are out to sell a product and your "no" will be met with "let me e'splain" ad nauseum. No matter how much you say "no" apparently, even if you have your own black belt in Taekwondo, you must be a blithering idiot to say no to something they offer. Let me explain the 3 reasons I do not teach my kid martial arts myself. 1. Time. I just don't have enough, but after school, she does. 2. Socialization. An after-school program with a bunch of kids gets her socialized. Super important for my ADHD feral child. 3. Class size. It takes a few kids to demonstrate the appropriate lining up and ranking and following hierarchy and order. With my one kiddo, I cannot accomplish that. But never in a million years did I dream that the teachers would not respect "no". Consent issues are at the forefront today, expect to deal with them everywhere, apparently. So there you have it. A comprehensive review. Consider yourself well informed.

Grandmaster Bonaparte knew about this, but did not make plans for a replacement instructor. My son was supposed to continue with a class since his instructor had left. We waited for Grandmaster to follow up with us. When he finally did he said my son could not be in the class and he said he had no one available to give him private lessons. To add insult to injury, Mr. Bonaparte took a week simply to return our phone call. We thought Martial Arts were for building up a student, not leaving them hanging out to dry.

My son has been attending the Little Dragons (ages 4-6yo) class here at American Dragon 3X per week…read moresince the fall of 2015. We started him off at another martial arts academy, but quickly moved him here after my husband did some research and found this place. The style they practice is Jeet Kune Do. Since our son began attending classes, we have noticed improvement in his confidence and self-control/discipline. He also is respectful to his elders, calling them sir & m'am, which I'm pretty sure he learned from coming here too...they always stress making sure the students have eye contact when being spoken to and that they always shake hands and say "thank you sir/m'am". They have a monthly mantra (or lesson) to teach children about confidence, integrity, perseverance (never giving up), etc. Our son seems to really enjoy attending classes, and is so proud every time he graduates to a new belt (he just got his 3rd - orange). We love that this is a family owned business. All of the staff takes the time to learn everyone's names and they are all really friendly and personable, not only with the students but also the parents who come to watch class each day. They happily listen to any of the concerns we ever have with our son and his behavior, or anything we need to address, which is very rare. American Dragon offers summer camp, after care, and camp on days when Broward County schools are closed. They offer classes for children, all the way up to adults. Sifu Helena even teaches womens' self-defense courses every so often. They also have gatherings a few times per year (a fall pot-luck and Halloween party just to name a few), which is always a fun time for the students/kids to get together and play. Their costume Halloween party is great! Oh, and they also offer "Parent's Night Out" every month or so, which is great for parents to get a little date night for a few hours on a Friday night :-). Anyway, we definitely recommend coming here if you're looking to enroll your child into a martial arts program. They offer a 6-week intro course I believe (which is what we did before signing him up full-time). And you renew every 6 months (or year perhaps).

They teach respect and responsibility in and out of the classroom. Even the ability to test for the next level (belt) is predicated on performance in school, home and class. The parents and their teacher have to sign for the testing! The kids have a seemingly good time in class. They are focused and there is a very even distribution of attention from the teachers to each student so no one student is left out. The owners (Sifu Helana and Sifu Neil) are both readily available and ALWAYS take the time to make each person feel important and address any concerns or questions - no matter how trivial. As a former student, I'm happy and proud to say my children are now students here! ASSA!!!!!!
