Though it was a bit of a rough time I felt blessed to have Dr Rogers on my side. A year and 2 months has passed since the procedure . Highly recommend!…read more After years of dealing with chronic lower back pain, trying everything from physical therapy to pain management with no lasting relief, I finally found the answer with Dr. Rogers and Dr. Satterfield. At 50 years old, I was hesitant and scared. I had heard so many negative things about spinal fusions, and being a high-risk patient with a history of blood clots only added to my fears. But from the moment I met with Dr. Rogers and Dr. Satterfield, I felt heard and understood. They took the time to explain everything clearly and compassionately. My X-rays and MRI made it undeniable--my spine had slipped to the point that surgery was the only option. It wasn't going to get better on its own, and I wasn't getting any younger. In early February, I had the surgery. From the very first time I got up afterward, I was pain free--something I hadn't experienced in years. Now, eight weeks later, I'm still pain free and healing well. I am beyond grateful that I chose to trust these incredible doctors. They gave me my life back, and now I have a future full of possibilities ahead of me. Thank you, Dr. Rogers and Dr. Satterfield, for your skill, your kindness, and for helping me reclaim a life without pain. Angela M.

I had a successful left hip replacement 2.5 years ago by another surgeon who used a more universal posterior approach with MAKO robotic assist, so I have a good point of comparison. Dr. Wassef uses the DSA (Direct Superior Approach) with MAKO robotic assist which is currently a less common method due to the specific training and technique required to do this approach (google DSA to see differences). In simple terms i have been blown away at how minimally invasive this approach seems to be. Without a doubt, to date, this technique has been less painful than my previous hip. I am so impressed at how quickly I was walking normally without a walker or cane and without any limp. At 2 weeks in I am in PT doing exercises that i could not get to many many weeks beyond the 2 week point with my previous hip. Incision is quite small as well but i am not a "meaty" guy so not sure what allowed me to have such a small incision. Lastly I have NO problem taking narcotic pain meds like oxycodone! I'm not an abuser but definitely a willing user if need be. After this surgery I had real trouble justifying much of any use of the Oxy prescribed. I easily survived on two 500 mg tabs of Tylenol 2x's a day once in AM and once before bed. Thanks Doc.

I've had 2 prior spine surgeries which were laminectomy and laminectomy revision. I was told my only option after that would be a fusion. So I switched health insurance and did extensive research and Dr. Melikian was on the list of top neurosurgeons. I made an appointment to see Dr. Melikian who ordered multiple MRIs. After careful review Dr. Melikian recommended a microdiscectomy which ended up being the best decision for my back. The pain I was feeling daily is gone and the recovery has been much easier than previous surgeries. His Physician Assistant JoAnna and the rest of his office staff were always so supportive and helpful. I would recommend Dr. Melikian to anyone suffering from back pain due to spinal issues.

Although I live in Long Beach and had limited time to visit in person, Dr. Melikian was kind enough to initiate contact via email and responded promptly. He arranged a quick phone consultation at no charge. He came across as very amiable, genuinely concerned, and highly knowledgeable about the subject. During our conversation, he brought up additional tests and treatment options I wasn't previously aware of. The call was definitely productive and appreciated. My only gripe, generally speaking--not specific to his practice--is that stem cell treatments are exorbitantly priced and not covered by insurance. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $9,000 or more for various stem cell treatment options. So, not a go just yet until I figure out how to come up with the money, I will have to live with my back pain.
