They even have information about how to purchase that particular mattress -Each cabin comes with a spacious, private deck/patio -The staff is so helpful and welcoming -Beautiful, heated pool -Lots of recreation for the kids, like basketball, swings, mini golf -The property is beautifully landscaped -Restaurant on site CONS (these are pretty nit-picky) -The rec room could use a little TLC. My first weekend visiting Idlewild and we saw a sign for the second annual luau and decided we probably should check it out. It was a very nice event and wasn't too crowded although quite a few people did show up. The event was on an area covered with fake grass, so no dust and surrounded by pine trees with mountains in the background. The luau food was pretty darn good and at $20 seem to be a bargain. Entrance fee was $10 for adults and seem to be a very good deal considering the authentic Hawaiian entertainment provided. The singing and dancing was informative and fun to watch, really added to the whole festive night atmosphere. Although not Hawaiian, I especially liked the attractive llama that was hanging out for kids to meet. We enjoyed this fun local event while visiting Idlewild and would not hesitate to visit the third annual event next year! read more

I was invited to a wedding at this venue and I booked a room here for three nights. I had room 61. The room had a great view of pine trees and oak trees. In the early morning there were lots of squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks running around. The room is nice. A big kitchen, dining table and living room space. The bedroom had a king size bed, a walk-in closet with extra towels and bathroom with a shower. The complex has everything you need. Basketball court, volleyball courts, pickleball courts, a pool, a chapel and a bar/ restaurant. The grounds are beautiful. There is parking everywhere and golf carts are available. The front desk is helpful. The town of Idyllwild is a couple of miles away. I liked the red Kettle for breakfast. I heard there was a lake nearby but I did not have the extra time. We visited other friends and they were in the larger cabin style rooms. Both versions were nice. Nothing fancy but they had everything you need and are comfortable. We had our wedding here and had a great time. A beautiful place with great amenities and kind staff. They have a good selection of vegan options at their on site restaurant, can't wait to come back and see what their chef comes up with as the new vegan meats are released to grocers and restaurant suppliers. The Peak Hall was beautiful, the chapel was comfortable and intimate. We also enjoyed the Bridal Suite and felt it was great for hosting our guests before the wedding. Rarely are my expectations exceeded... But this quaint cabin resort in Idyllwild has done it! We initially saw the resort on booking.com but went to the website and chose to book there because you can actually pick exactly which cabin you stay in. My fiancé surprised me with an overnight after we hiked Tahquitz Peak yesterday. We stayed in cabin number 12, which was a little duplex cabin. Our patio faced out to the woods and we could hear birds and crickets and see gigantic squirrels running all around. This resort looks like it was recently upgraded. The flooring looks brand new, everything is freshly painted, and I think the patios were all recently rebuilt. Possibly this year even! The only thing that did not look updated was the actual shower in the bathroom. It was not in bad shape, though, just didn't look as spiffy as the rest of our cabin. The interior of the cabin smelled like fresh cut wood. We absolutely loved it! The grounds on this resort are immaculate. It looks like somebody is out there daily picking every stray blade of grass. I love the variety of trees, and there was a lot of lavender blooming along the walkways. It smells wonderful and the sounds of the crickets in the evening and the way it is dramatically lit made it such a nice atmosphere. I took pictures of a few of the cabins as well as the interior of our cabin. Disclaimer, the cabins aren't exactly set up to photograph very well. Not that that matters you want a nice place to stay. But believe me when I tell you that it is much nicer on the interior of the cabin and then the photos on the website look or the photos that I took. There is a little restaurant on the grounds that we planned to go to, but by the time we got hungry last night at about 7:30 PM it was already closed. So that is something to think about if you are staying there. Normally we eat earlier, but after our big hike, we went and got some coffee and a little cake at a local place the person at reception recommended to us (Pure Bean if you're into that kind of thing- it was outstanding) and then had some decompressing time before we were ready for dinner. The only constructive criticism I would offer to the resort is that when checking in be mindful of giving the code to the room. My fiancé was very aware that the room number and code to the room was stated loudly and there were other people also waiting to check in. Just for security reasons. Nothing bad happened and we will 100% stay here again! Also, my fiancé's name is Ashley, he's a man. Named after Ashley Wilkes from Gone With The Wind. The girl at reception really could not wrap her brain around the fact that he was Ashley. She kept calling him Trevor and she was asking him to have Ashley come sign in. Not sure where she came up with his name being Trevor, but this is something that happens somewhat frequently so not the end of the world. read more

This retreat is a great option if you're looking to stay near Idyllwild. The property is tucked away enough to feel private but still just minutes from the main street and restaurants. The landscaping is beautiful, the rooms are clean and modern with a rustic feel, and the bed was extremely comfortable. I slept great. I'd definitely stay here again. Highlights: + Beautiful grounds and lots of parking + Clean, well-kept rooms with new furniture + Comfortable bed and overall relaxing atmosphere Areas to Improve: - At check-in, my room number and door code were read aloud in front of another guest, which felt like a serious lapse in privacy and safety. - Hot water and internet were inconsistent, and at one point the toilet water shut off for about 15 minutes. We booked an executive queen, which is a stand alone cabin. We were looking forward to the large windows and a relaxing rainy weekend in Idyllwild. When we arrived the room was not clean. The bed was recently slept in and bottles of water around the room. We returned to the front desk and were told we were getting an upgrade to a cottage. We arrived to the cottage, which is an apartment. It is bigger, but not what we reserved and not what we wanted. The windows are small and the rooms are dark. We shared a wall with people who were very loud. It's very disappointing to not get what you paid for. We also arrived in the dark, which I don't recommend. The cabins are not labeled for darkness, I wish they had large signs indicating what cabins were where off the road. read more

High in the idyllwild mountains is great resort. Nice room and amenities. Beautiful scenery, fresh air, great restaurant. It's a great place to relax and walk the local shops. We came here back in May looking for a quick retreat from the city (and by city, I mean the suburbs of LA that we live in). I was so pleasantly surprised and happy with our stay here! It's such a cute place with beautiful new renovations around the complex. Our room was a semi-cabin connected by one wall to another. I loved that they are dog friendly (up to 2 dogs). They also have a recreational room on site with a pool table, foosball, and games as well as a pickleball and basketball court available with equipment to rent. The property also has a pool available and some seating areas with fireplaces for colder nights. Our stay was very comfortable and considering they're only 1.5 hours away, we'll be making it a regular thing to come up for a quick getaway! read more

VERY nice and honest people working there and running the resort. My husband and I went up for an overnight getaway. Nice, big property with nice views. Restaurant was good. However, the most impressive part was their customer service. We had a missed call/voicemail once we got home stating that housekeeping had found my husband's wallet in the room and they had it at the front desk. I called them back and once they realized how much of a commute back and forth it would be, they were more than happy to mail it back to us. Two days later, it showed up in our mailbox as promised, AND with everything that was in it originally still there! Thank you SO very much! The AC is too loud!!! I spent $300+ for a 2-room suite on Xmas eve 2025 for family of 4, and our experience wasn't so good. The AC unit was too loud, and the hinge of the bathroom door was loose so the door couldn't be closed. The 2 front desk staff were impatient, which might be understandable because it was Xmas eve. The equipments in the gym and recreation center are broken or obsolete (please see the photos). Overall, this business has done one thing very well: the location with beautiful views; Otherwise I doubt people will be happy to stay there. There was a large group of us staying for the weekend, celebrating 3 of us who were turning 70. We had a great time at the pool, and the firepits were large enough to accommodate us. The people in the office were very friendly. I enjoyed the patios, and the atmosphere was so relaxing! Why only four stars? I was in a two-bedroom (which sleeps 6). The unit had 2 coffee cups with only a 4-cup coffee maker, no silverware, and no plates. There wasn't a set of sheets for the pull-out couch. And we couldn't figure out the a/c with its weird controller. My other family members had silverware, knives, plates, cups, the works in their places. So, because I only paid for a 2-bedroom and not a 3-bedroom, I'm not allowed the basics? There is nothing on the website that I could find that tells us we won't be given these. (The website could be more user-friendly.) I knew it was a kitchenette with no stove, but how am I supposed to use the microwave with none of the basics? When I went to the office, they gave me metal plates and plastic silverware, but no spoons! Can't put those plates in the microwave! But I was happy to be given something. I guess I felt like a second-class citizen when everyone else was talking about their full kitchen, etc. We did enjoy the restaurant, but were told after we had eaten there, that we were supposed to get a free drink and salad bar with our entrées. Why weren't we given the tickets for that when we checked in? One last thing-when I made my reservation and paid the down payment, I got an email saying "Your reservation has been received and is pending confirmation. You will be notified once your reservation is confirmed." But I never got a confirmation! I had to call to make sure I had a cabin for the weekend. What I am writing is more about what can be done to improve a guest's stay. I still had a good time! read more

Wow this place was so cute and cozy! Clean and dog friendly! They made the process of checking in / out extremely easy, they answered all of my questions with quick urgency- I would definitely come back again and plan to soon! The only mishap we had was the the peak restaurant and bar - the bartender seemed to lack any etiquette and or care for any other patron. My husband ordered a beer just to sit there for 10 minutes and be asked again if he wanted anything and to then repeat he had ordered a beer - the bartender didn't apologize nor seem to recognize that he had even forgotten due to comping free drinks/food to a singular customer that had been there for hours. Seems like the staff was just all over the place unfortunately. Other than this our stay was absolutely perfect and we will definitely be planning a stay again. read more

The Mrs. and I spent one night at the Tahquitz Pines Retreat and we already miss the place. We've stayed at other places in Idyllwild but Tahquitz Pines Retreat is by far the nicest place we've stayed. The Tahquitz Pines Retreat started it's life back in 1931 as a religious retreat. COVID hit and basically decimated the place and then in 2022 a local developer bought the property and turned it into the piece of paradise it is today. The property consists of 79 original structures. Each of which were painstakingly remodeled and upgraded with modern amenities. We arrived around 1p.m. on Saturday, August 24 for a one night stay. The website says check in is at 3 or later but the registration staff didn't even bring it up. It took us about 10 minutes to check in, get our door code, and we were on our way. We were assigned Forest Room number 37 which is a second floor room located in the southern most building of the retreat. The room was very spacious and had a king sized bed. The decor was minimal but comfortable. The room had a desk, two nightstands, a dresser, tv, and most surprisingly....carpet. The toilet and shower are in separate closets. I found the shower to be surprisingly spacious. The bathroom vanity is located across from toilet. There is a small outdoor seating area in front of the room. The bed was very comfortable. My only complaint was that the pillows were very small. During the night our room got kind of warm and working the thermostat was a bit of a challenge but we figured it out. The walls are pretty thin so if you're a light that might be an issue. The Peak Restaurant and Bar is located on the property and is open to the public. We stopped in for an appetizer and a few drinks and then a few small bites later in the evening. I don't want to do a full review until I actually have a full meal at The Peak. What I will say is that service was excellent and the Pit Master Wings were INCREDIBLE. The wings are smoked for four hours and then tossed in an Alabama white BBQ sauce. Ranch dressing isn't necessary. The Tahquitz Pines Retreat doesn't charge a resort fee which is surprising considering the amenities that are available. The Wifi was solid and parking was amble. read more

My husband and I needed some time alone away from the busyness and craziness of Los Angeles so we decided to come to Idyllwild. We heard great things about this city and it is the perfect place to go to if you love to be surrounded by one of God's biggest creations: mountains and huge pine trees. I booked Tahquitz Pines Retreat for one night on Hotels.com because it looked so beautiful in the pictures and they have great reviews. I booked their economy king and was assigned room 24. The front desk people were friendly. This room was beautiful! One of the most beautiful rooms we've ever stayed in and the price point was reasonable. It's modern yet still woodsy and I love the way they made it look bigger than it really is! The room had a nice table and chairs for 2, a small couch, mini fridge, microwave and a nice king size bed. It also had a tv on the wall hooked up with apps including YouTube! Everything was perfect until our power went out the next day. It was out for almost an hour and I did call guest services twice and they assured me they were going to fix it and they did but I wish this didn't happen at all. Good thing is that it was only a few hours away from check out time when it happened. Anyway, the whole place is huge, you can definitely get your steps in walking around the property. They also have their own restaurant on site which we ate at twice. (I'll review the restaurant separately) I wish their pool was open, I believe their pool opens in May. We would definitely come back here soon, enjoy their amenities and we'll be taking our son with us next time! read more

I used booking.com, which I've had nothing but great experiences, to book a room with 2 beds for me and my son to enjoy Mother's Day weekend together. We got there just before dark on Friday night and the woman at the front desk was wonderfully friendly and informative. However, when we got to the room, there was only 1 bed. I went back to the front desk and discovered that on her end, the booking was made via Expedia (I do not & did not use them), and it was for 1 bed. I showed her my booking.com confirmation that was for 2 beds. She offered another unit that had 1 bed and a couch. I asked if I could see it first & when I entered that room, it became clear that it was already occupied by other guests (yikes!). When I went back to the front desk and told her what happened, she said the only other thing she could offer was some extra bedding that my son could use to sleep on the floor. I could not believe what was happening. If it was not already nighttime in a small town, I would have left. We returned to the initial room and shared one bed, but didn't get much sleep because it was uncomfortable, and the walls were so thin that we could hear everything that was going on in the rooms on either side of us and above us. Maybe this would be acceptable if it were your family sharing the building, but that was not the case for us. The kind woman at the front desk asked me to send my confirmation email so she could have her management team make this right, so I sent it. I had to follow up several times over the next nearly 3 weeks to finally get a reply, which said there was nothing they could do and I'd have to contact booking.com. I spoke with booking.com, who said that the booking, unbeknownst to me, involved a 3rd party - DIREWOLF Limited, and that because of this, the only way to resolve this was to have the property contact their 3rd party for a resolution. I shared this with the property & was again told there was nothing they could do. BEWARE! If you decide to stay here, I'd highly recommend booking directly with the property and bringing your earplugs. read more

It was our very 1st visit to Idyllwild and my only requirement was a pet friendly hotel. Let's just say my pooch was more than happy here. Our cabin had a front patio, small dining area, comfy full size bed, AC, many drawers for storage, a small fridge and a microwave. It was perfect for our 2 nights stay for a peaceful and quiet July 4th weekend. We were able to relax by the pool, got a great workout at the pickleball court, there was also live music at the restaurant at night. Will definitely bring some smores ingredients to enjoy the fire pits even more next visit. The Idyllwild town is only about 5 mins drive away, and there are many hiking trails nearby. This is a great home away from home and we highly recommend it! We are already planning our next getaway. read more

We came here to enjoy a few days away from home. The price was fantastic. The staff was friendly here which is always a plus. The only things that were not so great was the beds were too mooshy no support. I felt like I.was drowning in the bed and the pilliows go flatter than a tortilla in a few minutes of use. The recreation room was cool but it's not maintained well. The ice hockey broken. Foos ball.broken. Pool sticks tips broken. The Ping Pong table also broken. The plastic darts all broken. There were also some weird adults in the recreation room drinking in there. They also brought in there husky that was not well trained. It was two couples two men with glasses and a lady with purple hair and her friend aurba pierced nose. They were so loud from being drunk if rad almost hard to enjoy playing pool with my son. Eventually they left but just wish there was a park staff member to.control the recreation room better. Other than that the park is beautiful and our stay was great.I would definitely come back. We had previously stayed here twice before and loved it! When we were there July 4th of 2024, we loved it so much we put a cash deposit down to save a room for next years 4th of July. Unfortunately, my husbands work is moving us out of state and we can no longer make it there for the 4th of July. He called the front desk in May to let them know we would not be able to make the reservation and if they could mail us a check for the deposit we put down. They said no and that we would have to drive back there to get it. We were in the process of moving to Idaho. He explained that this could not happen since we would no longer be living in California. We are quite surprised they couldn't mail us the deposit back. Edit: we will call Monday. He spoke with a female who said she spoke with the manager and was told we have to come in person to pick it up. read more

Horrible customer service. Very unfriendly. This place advertises that they are dog friendly, they are not! The restaurant had no running outdoor heaters in 44 degree weather. They offered a place to eat inside with my dogs over the phone, then when arriving they no longer could, bumping me for " other larger parties". No one in the restaurant knew how to turn on the outdoor heaters, and staff was rude and unfriendly. The room was cold, no charm, only 1 decor on the wall. The cleaning ladies were shouting in Spanish outside while waiting at their outdoor " relaxing " area for my room to be ready. The rooms carpeting smelled like dog urine. They do not allow u to leave ur dogs attended in a carrier or anything while u go eat or leave the room. There are no trash cans around the grounds to discard your dog poop. The manager was condescending, unfriendly and uncaring. Very unfriendly robotic front desk attendants. When leaving at 5:30pm maids were cleaning other rooms next door. Not welcoming or relaxing at all. The manager did not want to give me a receipt of cancelation, he said my third party booking would refund me the full cost- have not received any email of transaction or refund yet. I like that there were a lot of different things to do and that there was a restaurant because no one feels like driving when you are on vacation. The room we had was a good size and looked clean. What would have made this place better was a hot tub or at least a tub because it was so cold. I think if they added a sauna, steam room or a hot tub this place would be over 5 stars. read more

Great place to stay in Idyllwild with a dog. Requested a digital check in, and the associate texting me the information was very helpful and specific. Upon my arrival at night, finding the cabin was a bit difficult as there didn't appear to be lit cabin numbers but doable if you review the given map and instructions. The King Village Cabin I had reserved was clean and comfortable though. Thoughtfully updated to give it a modern cabin vibe without being cheesy or too soulless modern. My cabin was located right by the parking lot, and while you can hear people chatting as they walk by and arriving in their cars, etc., pretty much everyone seemed to head out around 7 AM and retreat to their cabins for sleep in the evening, so overall it was pretty quiet. The only thing I was mildly surprised by was that most of the complex's square footage is covered by concrete or turf so there were fewer dirt patches for my dog to go potty in than I initially thought. Overall comfortable place to stay in the area though. read more

I hate writing bad reviews and I really wanted to love it here but I currently find myself and my child, once again, wide awake in our beds at 5:30 in the morning on our vacation because the people upstairs are awake and moving around and the sound of every single movement they make is so incredibly loud I cannot get myself back to sleep. It creaks and cracks and seemingly shakes the entire downstairs. Every footstep. Every shift of their body weight. This is nuts. We rented a CABIN, not imagining for a moment that there would be upstairs neighbors to worry about IN A CABIN. I figured, incorrectly obviously, that for well over $700 for a two night stay, that we would get a standalone building and some peace and quiet. Sadly, this has been the least restful trip to the mountains that I or my family have ever had. There are plenty of other places to stay in Idyllwild, unfortunately we will not be coming back. Three stars because the area is lovely and the front office staff were very pleasant. read more

I've stayed at Tahquitz Pines previously and it was an enjoyable experience. However, that was a year or so ago. This week I was planning on booking a stay and I decided to call to confirm a few details. The individual "Monty" was very short on the phone and when I asked him if he could check that a particular cabin was available - he said he had to many people waiting for him, and it's just him working and that he couldn't help me. That I can just go online if I want to find out. If someone is calling to spend 250 to 300 dollars a night for a rental. I think it would be best to have a ittle better customer service. Otherwise, eventually it'll add up and people will stay at the many other cabins in that area. If this individual is the manager as they state they should be able to juggle multiple guests quite easily. Here are some tips: 1.) If you can't handle the work load at the moment. Politely, ask if you can call back and help while apologizing. Most people will understand. 2.) Don't just cut someone off and indicate you need to go on hold. Try "I apologize, would you mind if I put you on hold for a moment?" and when the other person responds then put them on hold. Update: I noticed the manager responded and I called and spoke with him because I do not like the inaccuracies in his response. He did not place me on hold three times. It was a single time. He did not while I was on the call ask if he could call me back. He did end up getting my phone number from their records and called me back. When I asked for corporate information - he mentioned that he is the general manager. When I told him I did not like the inaccurate information on his response (which luckily, all my phone calls are recorded) he said "I had three people in here that are a witness". I find it odd to attempt to save face on such a small matter. If someone approached me in a different manner, I would change my review from a 1 star. However, these interactions confirm the rating. read more

I hate to drop a star. I like this newly built hotel but the second time visit isn't quite as nearly nice as the first time. I think the hotel doesn't have enough precaution method taken to deal with rainy snowy icy days. A car was stuck in a snow bank earlier due to the icy road. Icy road is everywhere around the hotel. The worst was the deck before entering the cabin. I think it's important to drop sand/salt or whatever necessary for safety precaution. It was scary to walk our dog around. Get slippery everywhere. They didn't do a good job getting the snow plowed properly and a lot parking spots were randomly taken up by snow bank here there. The hot water, can burn your hand without any cold water running with.. overall, it's more expensive but less pleasant is the overall experience for this time. read more
