It began with chips and salsa. The chips were... acceptable. The salsa, however, seemed to have escaped from a dusty jar found behind a K-Mart Grill circa 1987 -- bland, lifeless, and utterly devoid of character. Cardboard would've been spicier. Then came the BBQ, a tragic performance in three acts: strange aroma, off flavor, and the lingering question, "Is this safe?" It tasted old -- tired, even -- and we couldn't eat it. The vegetables were at least recognizable, but seemed to have been seasoned with pure indifference. Salt, pepper, and taste had clearly taken the day off. To be fair, the cook was the lone bright spot -- kind, well-meaning, and genuinely eager to please. Unfortunately, no amount of kindness can resurrect a meal this far gone. In short: a waste of money and a triumph of tastelessness. A place that should stick to pool tables and pints, not plates. Even the old K-Mart Grill -- bless its greasy, fluorescent soul -- would blush with pride next to this disaster. The first thing to greet you when you come into this place is unfortunately a stale basement/cigarette stench which has clearly been there for many, many years and probably won't ever go away. That's the reason for maybe 1.5 stars taken off. The other half star was because we were there at a non-busy time and still had to pay per hour and per person to play pool. There are many pool bars downtown that don't even charge for playing as long as you buy drinks. I would maybe understand per table but per person? That seemed a bit much especially for what was being offered. They do show at least the Fight Night UFC events here though which is nice... but without volume.

My Google Maps said I had arrived, yet out of all the shops in the strip mall none of them said Rack'em Billiards. Turns out it's located in the back behind the Mexican restaurant. This is a 21+ establishment and if you're playing pool they will hold one persons ID until you return the balls. The entire place needs a major remodel. There were holes in the ceiling and the carpet was dirty. Not to mention, it was hot as hell in there. Then I went to the restroom and had to venture to three different stalls to find toilet paper. We were given table number 5 which was all the way in the back and I'm not a professional or avid pool player so I thought everything looked fine. However, the chairs that were at our table were wobbly and my seat was falling off. As for food, it's your typical bar fare. There were wings, chicken strips, a salad and some other items. I ordered the chicken strips and fries and thought they were actually pretty good. The service was slow even when the place was extremely vacant. Thankfully playing several rounds of pool kept us busy and having fun. At the end of our night we received our checks and weren't aware that it cost $5 to play pool. Yeah, it's only $5, but I wish they would have disclosed this verbally instead of putting up a sign that no one reads and then finding out on the check. And come to find out it's cheaper on every other day except Sunday, the day we went. Overall, not the best place for a night out, but if you like pool they have plenty of tables.

The staff are all very kind, especially if you're kind to them (I'm a regular though so they love me). They take vertical IDs, however they don't take the Colorado app which has been an issue for some friends of mine. I love the option of having quarter tables as well as the larger tables for $5 per person per hour option. Plus, if you don't use the larger tables for the full hour they won't charge ya for it! Love that they have drink specials every day (very helpful as a college student) but also just some decently priced drinks overall. The food is also pretty tasty, but I've only eaten here twice. The only reason for 4 stars instead of $5 is because of the cash only option after 6 pm and if you're going to use your card before then, it's a $40 minimum!! They do have an ATM on site but still, it's a bit absurd to have that high of a minimum. Additionally, not taking the Colorado app is not something I've heard of at any other place.
