Today I had a horrible experience with Tailgators. I requested the double fry my french fries. Did curbside parking. Paid for order with cash and added a tip. I've suggested time and time again all these fast food restaurants need to wear hairnets. These cashiers and employees hair is too long. I guess that should indicate my issue with the order. I AM SO DISGUSTED I AM NOT EVEN CALLING THEM ABOUT IT. I just threw the entire order away. It has turned me off their food...maybe forever. At least for now... read more

Driving back to Texas from Illinois wanted something better than the regular fast food! Great choice. Burgers were delicious onion strings with a lil bbq to dip with. Chocolate shake! We were driving down Interstate 30, and starving hungry. Not being from the area, we came across this gem of a restaurant! The young woman that answered the phone cheerfully took our order, and said she'd have it ready when we arrived. They offered great service and great burgers/steak fries. Everything was correct with our order, and she gave us ample ketchup and the correct number of utensils. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND to anyone--even the starving travelers! Best food we've eaten on our 2,000 mile trip. We had a medium and large burger one with fries the other with a side salad everything was delicious. The place is very clean and welcoming I wish we had one in our neighborhood. Great ambiance, the building was an old hotel for the railroads. There's an old depot right across the street. Did I mention they also have wonderful food too!!! I highly recommend we've add this to our future trips this way and will make it one of our regular stops. Food was so tasty and fresh. If you're a pulled pork fan, theirs is fantastic. Had mine with the fried pickles. Yum! Owners are very personable and welcoming. Stopped here for lunch on a long road trip to visit family. The restaurant does have a nice atmosphere with cool decor. When we went to the counter to order, the server did not greet us and seemed to be bothered that we interrupted her by needing to take our order. My husband had a burger that was good but nothing to brag about. The fries were tasty but not as crispy as desired. I had the Mustang Salad that was fresh but very overpriced for the size. It was smaller than a normal entree salad; just slightly bigger than a typical side salad. I was still hungry after finishing it. Better than fast food, but we probably wouldn't go out of our way again to stop here again. read more

My wife picked the fries, they where hand cut and fresh. Not far off the I-30 and really worth the serendipity. We stopped here on our drive from Texas to Tennessee. The customer service was incredible! They even gave us on the house pup patties which was essentially burgers for our dogs! We each order burgers and the burgers were great! The fries on the other hand were pretty basic and underwhelming which is why 4 stars instead of 3. Very cute and cozy with a hometown feeling. Getting there, you will pass all the regular fast food joints (that you can find anywhere), but keep going ! In a beautiful old building, on a corner, you will find a great place to eat! The lady taking my order at the front counter was really friendly and helpful. This was my first time there, so she was able to answer all my questions. I went with the mushroom Swiss cheeseburger, and boy was it good!! Great tasting hamburger, grilled mushrooms and onions too. They have several sides, and are happy to give you two different (1/2 each) if you like. I went with the tater tots and fried okra. What a great place! We stopped in Hope for the night as we were heading back to Houston. We'd never been. We knew that it was Bill Clinton's home town, but knew little else. A quick Yelp search yielded Tailgater's - just a short hop from our hotel. It's situated downtown, which looked really cute. It was over 100 degrees, so we didn't stroll around. The former train station (now a visitor's center) was right across the street. When we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the counter staff. This is such an obvious customer service point so often overlooked. The decor was nostalgic and very cool. We made our selections and ordered at the counter. I had a burger and my wife had the Chicago dog. My burger was huge, and fresh and delicious with the right amount of char. The bun was fresh and obviously custom made (not Sysco mass produced). The hand cut fries were great. My wife's hot dog was pretty authentic - not a Vienna beef sausage, but bigger and better with all the correct toppings. At some point, the owner came over to introduce herself...she knew everyone coming in, so she obviously surmised that we were not from Hope. We had a nice conversation, and she then offered to make a burger for our dog! This was promptly delivered, already in a bowl, in little pieces. And she wouldn't take any money for it! (Our pup left a tip for the counter staff above and beyond what we left.) if Yelp had paw ratings, he would offer 5 paws. We completely enjoyed Tailgaters and would consider stopping in Hope again just to dine here! Get the tots!! Combo includes side & drink, which you fill yourself at fountain dispenser. Adeuate street parking for this small town icon. On this friday night; everyone in town were here to eat and be seen. Nice staff. Interesting eclectic decor is visually appealing. Corner store across from the train station makes it easy to find. We needed a stop on our interstate trip for a lunch break. But with a dog, we also needed a place that is dog friendly. They have outdoor seating! It's more like an open part of the building, so it's protected from winds and rain. No menu, so my partner went inside and snapped a pic of the menuboards so I could order. There were so many options! Our food was brought out quickly, which was amazing considering its a pretty busy place. Burgers were great, fries and okra were great too. I'll have to remember this place next time I'm on the road. read more

Great food!!! Service is a little slow at lunchtime ....small town business, so a lot of residents eat lunch there. Tailgater's has freshly made burgers, fries and wonderful salads. Drinks are self service. My family from Timpson, Texas and the Little Rock area meet there a couple of times a year for catching up and eating lunch. My wife had the Classic Hamburger and had the same experience. Not far from I-30 and close to the Amtrak station, so plenty to see around it once you are done. We were traveling through Hope and decided to try Tailgater's. Based on the reviews, we really expected to enjoy this place, but NO...so I felt the need to add our review. First, the restaurant is in a great downtown building with fun, vintage decor. You order at the counter and your food is delivered to your table. The staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu options. We split a burger, onion rings and fried okra. The food was delivered to our table promptly and looked pretty good. We took the first bite of burger and just looked at each other in disappointment. The patty was a preformed, frozen type you would get at any cheap fast food chain and the bun was cold. C'mon...if you're going to advertise a better burger, the patty should be hand formed and the bun heated for crying out loud! The onion rings looked hand battered with a nice golden brown color, but they were lukewarm at best. Then on to the okra. Obviously pre-battered and frozen, which is typical, but they were not even lukewarm. It's as if their fryer was not working properly. Fresh fried food delivered directly to your table should be piping hot! To compete with other better burger joints, they need to take care of a few details to succeed in this crowded market. read more

My Recommendation would be to either take burger out of the name of your restaurant or make your burgers better than anything else on the menu.
