We stayed in Hope for 2 nights while we went to the Crater of Diamonds State Park. Dos Loco Gringos is right next to our hotel so we gave it a try. So glad we did! We enjoyed it so much we ate there both nights. The service was great. Waitresses were very attentive. My husband had the ribeye both nights. It was delicious. They cut their steaks on the premises. Cooked perfectly. I had the Burrito con Queso the first night with beef fajita and the Chicken Laredo the second night. Both were delicious! Highly recommend!! read more

Was happily surprised. The Ribeye I had was perfectly seasoned and cooked a perfect medium rare. Had a good sweet potato to go with it. The potato was great, not stringy. My wife had the queso burrito with fajitas steak and it was delicious. The staff was great and took great care of us. Restaurant was ok, wasn't overly decorated, but nice. Yelp reviews should be contextual. In any major city this place would be absolutely bottom the barrel. Passing through a place like Hope, it was a pleasant surprise. I have to admit the main reason I visited here is because they serve alcohol, secondly, it was walking distance from my hotel. It doesn't get the best reviews in town, but I still came anyway. I wanted something light since I had lunch just 3 hours before arriving. I picked the ribeye steak, as it looked good and would probably be less calories than a Mexican choice. Although steak isn't exactly light. The atmosphere here isn't quite homey, as the interior looks dated with short ceilings. I think it might have been the white walls that set the mood here, as it seemed more like an office than a restaurant. Top shelf margarita - they let you choose between about 5 different premium ("top shelf") tequilas, but top shelf doesn't mean fresh ingredients as the margarita is not made with fresh lime juice. They use a mix instead, and you can taste it. 3/5 Chips & salsa - salsa served cold, tastes like a brand you can buy at the local grocery store 2/5 Ribeye steak - served with a salad, texas toast, and a starch, I chose a loaded potato. The salad is okay. The loaded potato was not exactly what most restaurants consider loaded, as it came with margarine, sour cream, and some bacon bits. The oddest part was the hot plate. Why does the plate need to be so hot? Everything is cooked somewhere else. Unless they needed the melt the cheese on the potato? Who knows. Anyways, the steak was pretty good actually. It was a 12oz boneless ribeye that was tender and had a nice chargrilled flavor and not a lot of fat. Mine was a little on the thin side, but the cook was a medium rare as requested. read more

I'd give Dos Los Gringos of Hope, AR a zero if it were available. Today I did the lunch special. It was supposed to be salad, potato kegs, country fried ribs, corn bread, and a brownie. I told them to put salad, corn bread and brownie in a separate container because I was sharing with a neighbor. I added fries because I've never had potato kegs and wasn't sure I'd like them (I didn't). So I go through drive-thru and pay $20 for the $19.06 order. I let him keep the change because the old man kept touching and picking at his nose. It was nasty. I got the big brown bag, got home and went through it all to divide the bag up (even though I paid, I was sharing). No corn bread and on brownie. It had some stale chips and dip. I called to say the corn bread and brownie were missing. They argued. I said "whatever" and hung up. I got no reason to lie about an order I was sharing anyway. I hope it was worth them getting a 1 rating but I think they should have a zero. They made no effort to fix the situation. I wasn't going to drive back out. But they could've put that down for another time... (10-17-25). I ended up giving that neighbor part of my fries and 2 1/2 of the 3 potato kegs enclosed to make up for the cornbread and brownie missing. I also gave her the chips and dip. The chips and salsa was ok, but what I liked best was that they brought the little carafe so we could refill our salsa. The service was fine. There wasn't many people when we arrived/left. As San Antonians, we like to think we know a thing or two about Tex Mex. These folks are doing a bangup job! We dined in for lunch, and the service was excellent, the all-veggie quesadilla (lunch size was big) was so tasty I took the leftovers all the way back to south Texas, and we had the top shelf queso (or maybe they called it cheese dip). The chips were crisp and generous, and the salsa had a nice little kick. We were very pleased and full! If you're wanting authentic Mexican food, this is not it... but if you're looking for good food, awesome service and a great atmosphere then this is the place... First off, the service was amazing... friendly... efficient, and how they remember our orders without writing anything down... we're impressed. Secondly, come hungry because the portions are generous. I had the "make it as you want it" quesadilla... the meat (beef fajita steak) was tender, the fixings (spinach, mushrooms) fresh... the guacamole and pico de Gallo seemed freshly made as well. Hubby had a stuffed potato dish with chicken topping which he enjoyed, and the granddaughter had a beef burrito with beans and rice which she said was good. Wonderful staff, good (tall) margarita! We're from Texas so figure we can know good Mexican food when we taste it and this was pretty darn good. First thing we always taste, believe it or not, is the rice. If it's basically plain white rice with a dab of tomato sauce, we know the rest of the meal will disappoint as well. Here, the rice had great color, was fluffy and the elegant taste of Camino was just right. The only thing I would add to the refried beans is a bit of smoky flavor but we discovered topping the beans with a few of the fried onions from the fajita was a great addition. Next time I'd even ask for some fried onions for just that reason. Speaking of the beef fajita meat, it was amazingly tender and had a great smoky flavor, just as they should. No frying pan fajitas-- they're just not as good. For the enchilada, if the traditional "school lunch lady" red enchilada gravy had been an option, I would have taken it. Everyone loved the lunch lady enchiladas with that mild, red gravy-- yum! If the friendly folks want to put things over the top, I'd heartily recommend taking a swing at home made flour tortillas. Go to any Taco Cabana in Texas and get one of their tortilla cooking machines-- they work great, are fast and only require one staff to operate. Of course, the tortilla masa must be high grade and they'd have to experiment to get the perfect taste/texture. But if your restaurant can claim your tortillas are home made, you are definitely a step above everyone else. Finally, I'd also recommend putting some coupon flyers at the nearby hotels as a great means of advertising. Maybe chip in an employee discount for the hotels who host the coupon flyers! read more

Since we were traveling with our dog, we stopped here when we noticed the patio dining area. The owner was at the front desk when I asked if we could eat outside with our dog. After finding out that it was only 8lbs and not a pit bull, he agreed. He was extremely accommodating, setting up our service with menus and drinks. The server was very nice too. I have this slight obsession that I want to be able to walk to a bar from my hotel and mingle with the locals when I'm vacationing. You know, like in movies. For whatever reason, I haven't been able to do this yet. I sought my chance with Dos Loco since it was right across the street from my hotel. Ehh, close enough to a bar, I thought. But I learned something my first night in Hope. It's in a dry county. Fun fact: More than half of the counties in Arkansas are dry. That meant no bars. No beer at the Walmart which was also kind of across the street from me. And no margaritas at Dos Loco. The waiter I asked about booze was very sweet, but I left the restaurant since I had dinner elsewhere and was just looking for a drink. Came back the second night for dinner with my family. Was not expecting anything special since us Texans are snobs when it comes to Mexican food. It's true. However, I was pleasantly surprised. -Salsa was delicious. Spicy, but not overpowering, and good flavor. Better than many other restaurants I've been to. -Beef enchilada, beef fajitas and grilled chicken (from a salad) were ok. Tasty enough and up to par with any other place. -Rice was equally as delicious as the salsa. All the food was definitely more of a tex-mex quality than authentic, pero no problema! -I did not eat the beans. I hate beans. My sister ate some, although, I did not ask how she liked them. -Sopapillas were effing amazing. I've never had one so soft and fluffy before. Stopped here on our way home from Texas, and that was our mistake, stopping for Tex-Mex in Arkansas so it was really Ark-Mex food. The food as it was was not bad in quality or taste. The service was great and everyone who worked there was extremely helpful and pleasant. they had some HUGE (100+ pounds) watermelons for sale by the front door,that in its self was the trip to put my 1yo next to them for a picture. my only word of caution is we ordered a enchilada from the child's menu and it was seasoned the same as my "adult" entree which was a little on the spicy side. needless to say my daughter was not into it.
