I also have two specific examples of how Frank saved the day: 1. I have a pair of earrings made of semi-precious stone with a thin gold wire running through a tiny hole drilled in the top of the stone. The gold wire on one of the earrings wore out and snapped. I took it to an upscale jewellery store for repair and they said they couldn't do it because the hole was so tiny and the wire was so thin - they didn't have wire small enough to fix it. I took it to Frank instead. He took one look, said that yes, the wire was tiny, but he could special order the right wire if I was willing to wait two weeks. He fixed it and it's been perfect ever since. 2. I received a vintage, 35-year-old quartz Mickey Mouse watch by Lorus. It didn't keep proper time, as it lost 20 minutes every day, despite having a new battery. Brought it to Frank, he cleaned it, serviced it, replaced the rotted gasket, and it now keeps perfect time. Don't be put off by his modest storefront - it's not the jewellery he sells that's the draw, it's the expertise of his repair service that's important. There's nobody I would trust more with handling my expensive pieces for day-to-day minor repairs or bracelet/strap adjustments.

The problem is he knows exactly what she will like. After visiting some places in Canada, online and in Barcelona and France where he was, he decided he will give her a custom ring. It was an other level, I went to all stores, sometimes it was the price sometimes it was something else. I went to the internet and found the name of David Congers. I called him, a very calm, confident voice. I felt that he really wanted to help me and knew what he was talking about. The problem is that during the pandemic, he closed his store and was working from home. The first time I went to his house, he was scared of me and I was scared of him. Showing diamond in a garage was not to reassure me. My phone died and I asked him if I could charge it inside his house, I could feel that he was not confortable to let me in. To make a story short, I showed him a model. He showed me a diamond that my son was thrilled about. We discussed prices and settled. When the time comes to deliver we went to a mall. Again, we were both scared of each other. I had to make sure that the number on the diamond was right and he did not want to give me the diamond until he received the money on his account. Besides that lack of confidence on both sides, it was a great experience. The ring was wonderful, both my son and my future daughter in law are so happy about it. The size, everything was exactly they way the wanted. I really recommend David Congers for his patient. He is working from home but he is honest and direct. Thanks again David.

I am pleased beyond my ability to express superlatives with Master Jewellers at Billings Bridge…read morePlaza I have an old Timex Expedition watch that I cherish very much because it is a reminder of happy times from the past. A few weeks ago it stopped working for some reason. I took it to a reputable jeweller and I was told that it needed a replacement movement, but that the replacement unit would not have the illumination feature because it wasn't available. I decided against getting the repair done and I took the watch to another reputable jeweller. This jeweller also checked the watch and told me the same thing. I also decided not to have the repair done. As I mentioned, this watch is very dear to me and I wanted it to work as it was intended. A friend of mine recommended Master Jewellers to me as he so very pleased with their service. I took there and I told the lady how much I cherished this watch, also mentioning the information that I was given from the 2 other jewellers. The lady was familiar with this model of watch and told me that the illumination feature is separate from the movement and it would be retained if a new movement was needed. I agreed to have the inspection and repair done. A few days later she told me that the watch only needed a battery and the existing movement was operating correctly. I was so pleased!!! Not only did it not need a replacement movement that 2 other jewellers told me it would need , but it only needed a battery ! This watch is now woking perfectly just as it had been for so so many years. I highly recommend Master Jewellers to everyone, especially if a treasured item is involved. They are so courteous and honest , such wonderful service !!

I noticed that most items are short-dated. Past best-before items are marked down. I love imported snacks, and The Scottish and Irish has lots. All their dried goods are imported from the UK or the Republic of Ireland, but some of their frozen products are made in Canada or the USA. They don't just sell snacks, but they sell clothing, jewelry and knickknacks. But I was there exclusively for the snacks. They have lots of chips/crisps, chocolate, candies, cookies/biscuits and drinks. I did notice that many of their products are short-dated with imminent best-before dates. These products were still regular price. Items that are actually past their best-before dates are marked down. Single serving portions of chips/crisps are between $1-$3. Single cans of soda are between $1.25-$3. The place is rather large. Staff are pleasant. I was greeted on the way in, and left to my own devices to shop, which I liked. They are located in a small plaza. Lots of free parking available in the plaza parking lot. (134)

And in the age of online purchases, where online measurements may not be accurate and return shipping is too expensive, I've found many brand new, still with tags items on consignment for cheap! However, some consignment stores are better than others. Act II is one of the better ones in that it is not overly crowded with merchandise. I don't like it when stuff is crammed together. Act II also does not smell musty. They have a good mix of regular clothes and higher end items. When I was there, the person working was named Penny and she was very friendly and nice. They have 2 prices listed on the tag. The original price, and the price if it doesn't sell after a certain date (the date is also printed on the tag). The tags are colour coded. After a certain time, certain coloured tags are 50% off (the original price). Then at the end of the season, some items are 70% off (the original price). So today I scored a Christian Chenail (really cool Montreal designer. Designed and made in Canada, woo hoo!) skirt for $19.99 (it was several sizes too big, but too cute and too good of a deal to pass on it, so I will have to pay for the alterations this time), a brand new still with tags Jockey workout top for $8.50 and a Holt Renfrew house brand basic black t-shirt without tags, but looks new for $4.20. All their designer purses looked legit (no replicas/fake stuff that I could discern). Their shoe selection is not that big and very little in smaller sizes (I don't think there was anything in my size (5)). They had some jewelry too. Act II is really out of the way for me and not in an area that I frequent, but it's a cool store and I think it will be one of the stores that I'll be sure to visit whenever I'm in Barrhaven. It's in a strip mall and there is a lot of free parking.
