My husband and I went here today after reading mixed reviews so we decided to judge for ourselves. We went during lunch and the place was empty. Our waitress Kimberly was super sweet. I had the most delicious Mango Mojito. The baby shrimp fongo was the BEST!! FLAVORS were on point, it wasn't salty or overbearing it was just right. The chicharon de Pollo was amazing as was the rice and beans. My husband was very happy with his meal he had the breaded cutlets which were made to perfection and also had a hint of lemon. The music was perfect Latin music loud enough to hear and low enough to have a conversation. Overall this spot is now our favorite! If you are in Coram, NY and want authentic latin Dominican food this is the spot. They have parking as well. We happen to drive past this place and didn't know it changed hands from the previous "Mike's Place Bar & Grill". We were definitely impressed with the cleanliness and appearance of dining area. Our waitress was super nice and explained each dish to us. Our drinks were delicious. Food tasted fresh and also delicious. We order a blue berry margarita and a strawberry margarita- Yummmm! We ordered the trio empanadas- 1 beef, 1 chicken, 1 cheese with a tangy sauce that complimented them very well. We got chips and salsa with a side of guacamole. OMG- we loved it and finished it all. Best part was the salsa is served warm. Sooo good. Then we ordered the 2 Monfongo dishes; chicken and the other shrimp. Comes with a garlic-buttery sauce. Again, fresh, hot and extremely tasty. These dishes did not come with sides. But you can order a side of rice and/or beans for an extra $4.00. This was plenty to eat though. We had no room for dessert. Too full. This place is great! I love Mofongo and Tainos makes the best around. I ordered the currasco mofongo maduro and was almost in tears. It brought me back to my abuelitas house as a kid. This place has a lot of hype so my husband and I decided to try it... they advertise lunch specials from 12-4 on Instagram but when we went in they did not tell us, we had to ask which is not so bad... but when we asked the waiter acted like he didn't want to tell us & then proceeded to tell us that the lunch menu portions are not as big as regular portions (which I would expect)... it was more of how he said it... anyway, the food was pretty good. I got the steak with onions, my husband got breaded steak, & tostones. There's not many good restaurants in that area so that's a plus for them. We have always loved the food at Tainos. Our recent visit a couple of days ago, on a Wednesday, was a disappointment. It took about 45 minutes to simply get water for the table. Appetizers and good all arrived at once after a long wait. The food was not as hot as usual, but still good. The atmosphere, however, was chaotic. The music was blasting and there was no distancing between tables. They seemed to be more interested in providing a club atmosphere than restaurant. In a connecting area, near the restrooms, there was a Dj blasting more music and people smoking hookah. The area itself was crowded more so than the dining area. All this, and it was only around 6:30PM, only a couple hours after opening. Lastly, during our visit. I did not notice any staff sanitizing or wearing their masks properly. Most had their mask only covering their mouth and not nose. An overall, disappointing experience. read more

We have been searching for trifongo since we returned from a trip to PR. Well - we are happy to say that Tainos did a fantastic job of this most delectable Caribbean dish - don't ask questions just order it , it's so savory you will be looking for more . The criollo sauce is seriously to die for , get the shrimp trifongo to really get a good idea . The people here are also warm and inviting and most helpful , Maye , I hope i spelled it correctly, is a such a doll, and an excellent bartender !!! The portions are appropriate for the price , the chunks of fried chicken were juicy and delicious as well . The tres leeches cake was superb , now that really makes you feel like you are on vacation ! The music was great too but if you have a sports buff there are plenty of tvs - turned down so you can enjoy the musica!!! We will definitely be returning to Tainos , I'm certain it will be a regular !! Try it , I really think you'll like it ! I saw the empanadas , they looked really formidable and delicious but we were on a mission for trifongo !!! But damn those empanadas are on our list for next visit!!! Dined here on 12/14/18 with the family. We ordered beer and juices. The juices were mixed with water, it was ok but at $4.50 each I found it too expensive. We ordered one appetizer: the Taino nachos. I ordered the grilled chicken and substituted the rice/beans with yucca and onions, table also ordered the Taino mofongo, pork mofongo, chicharron de pollo. Verdict? The platanitos in the appetizer were freshly made and did not taste oily but the cheeses never melted and the bacon/shrimp was hidden and did not mesh. The guacamole was good. For the entrees: the grilled chicken breast was ok, yucca and onions good. The Pork mofongo was room temperature, the dipping sauce was good. The Taino mofongo was the most expensive dish, the diner enjoyed it, I thought it was ok. The shrimp was over cooked and part of the seafood mixture was from a frozen bag, but it did have crab and clams too, the broth was delicious. The chicharron de pollo, boneless, are chicken fingers but better, served with rice and beans. So, to be clear, I'm not sure this is a Puerto Rican or Dominican restaurant, I think it's Colombian, mostly because of the words used in the menu and the bartender and hostess are clearly Colombian. The food was good but not seasoned in the same manner as PRicans or Dominicans would. Having said that, it was good to have the place here. Happy hour is Mon-Fri until 8 PM, half priced drinks and food specials at bar only. Music and dancing Fri and Sat after 10 pm. Next time I'll try a mixed drink and the steak. read more

We had the shrimp mofongo and chicken Trifóngo. Both were authentic and absolutely delicious. We had to send one plate back because it was cold. The waitress was great about it and it came back perfect. We ate at the bar so our margaritas were half price. They were very good as well. The decor was really nice and the service was exceptional. I came here a couple months back for happy hour. The food and drinks were great. I took my girl here yesterday for valentines thinking it was gonna be a good night. We sat down at the bar and asked the bartender for the happy hour menu and she looked at us like she didn't know what we were talking about. So she asked the other bartender and he also didn't know. So I'm there sitting waiting for the bartenders to come back so we can ask for the drink menu. We waited almost 10 min and when the other bartender came back he didn't even look our way. I would understand if the place was full but it was not. It was us and another couple on the other side. Service sucks and I will never return!!! read more

We came to eat with the family thinking we can have a good experience, unfortunately we did not, we were 4 adults and 5 kids, 1st they brought one of my kids salchipapas (small peace of hot dogs with French fried) and the rest of the kids had to wait for their food (chicken fingers with French friends) make no sense to bring the food for just one and the rest has to wait. Then the hot dog were old and spoiled, taste and smelled bad, we return it and tried to exchange it for chicken fingers instead which they End up bringing after we all finish the food. We order 3 chicken Taino (rice, chicken and shrimp), the rice was cold and the chicken also taste old, the only one that had some decent food and lucky was an order for shrimp asopao with a lot of hot sauce!! You figure.. unfortunately my wife know the owner and we tried to give some support but I would not recommend the place, if the owner get to read this I hope he can take some action and look into his workers better training, chefs and take a look inside then kitchen for spoil food, this can bring a huge problem with heath department and law suits for food poisoning. Food is excellent. Love it and they party on the weekends. The drinks are ares strong. The kids love the service and food.

We got take out from Tainos this afternoon and OMG is it fantastic! We had the shrimp mofongo and the skirt steak mofongo and shared a chicken Yaroa. All I can say is wow! It was melt in your mouth delicious. The meal was filling, so we really were only able to eat a quarter of it, but the rest will be left over for lunch tomorrow! Or a midnight snack! We can't wait to go back to try more of their delicious menu! read more
