Ordered chile rellenos, the three taco meal, and had a pork belly appetizer that we shared between us. Took most of it home, and I have to say, I love Mexican/Latin food, but this was the blandest selection of food I have had since trying a can of Amy's vegetarian Tom Kha soup. Amy sucks every last bit of flavor, joy and life from Thai cuisine, and while the food at Don Quixote wasn't depressing, it lacked what I expect from Latin food: A little spice, some savor, cultural pride maybe. I guess that's why we hadn't been back. But, if you look at reviews, most others seem to like it pretty well, so you'll have to decide for yourself. Restaurant was nice, clean and decorated for Christmas. A small bar when you walk in. We were seated quickly and given salsa and chips. Salsa was chunky and mild, very good. My husband ordered beef tacos for an appetizer, which he enjoyed. A nice crunchy taco always hits the spot. For dinner I had the Paella Marinera. The flavor in the rice was very good. The calamari, cod fish, and shrimp were tender. The mussels and clams were so dry & overcooked, I couldn't even get them out of the shells. Very disappointing. My husband had the Mixed Grill. The food was not good. I ordered the Fajita. I've never had one that did not sizzle on the cast iron plate or with sauce. It was really strange. No flavor, no spices,only a weird thick sauce. Had to ask for lime to give the food some sort of flavor. The kids meal was such a rip off, $15 for Mac and Cheese in a small guacamole bowl with some fries on the side. Other places I usually order one and there is enough for a 7 and 3 year olds share. Can't even give me a whole $1.50 box of Krafts for $15. Hubby got a chimichanga. It only had a few pieces of meat. The restaurant is divided into two sections: a small bar area and a large restaurant area. The restaurant side has various tables with two to six seats. My wife and I arrived early on a Tuesday evening and reservations were not necessary. Upon entering, we were promptly seated. Shortly thereafter, a basket of corn tortilla chips arrived with a mild dipping sauce. I cannot attest to the dip, however, the chips were warm, lightly salted, and crispy. For an appetizer we ordered fried calamari. As an entree, I chose the Don Quijote Mixed Grill. This consists in marinated grilled skirt steak, pork loin, chicken breast, Latin sausage, tostones, white rice, and pinto beans. I substituted additional white rice for the pinto beans. The calamari arrived hot and they were delicious. Definitely to be shared by two. My entree arrived sizzling on a flat iron grill. Everything was delicious. I enjoy a hearty meal, but I could not finish the abundance of excellent food on my plate. Of course I grew a desert appetite so I ordered the fudge chocolate cake and a decaffeinated cappuccino. Both the cake and the cappuccino were excellent. My only negative comment was that I received a fatty cut of pork. Notwithstanding this, I would still give the restaurant six stars if I could. All their food is consistently delicious, wait times are reasonable, dining area is always clean, and wait staff are quick and attentive. I used to frequent this restaurant before Covid & my mom loved it so I've held on to a fantastic memory of the place for a while now. I've been raving about it for years & we were finally in the area to stop in for dinner. It was Friday night so the place was packed which was a good sign to me! We sat in the corner, the seating between tables was super tight and my chair was pushed up against the wall so I couldn't move back or around. They tried to seat 2 other parties behind us and they reseated elsewhere or outside because they couldn't pull the chairs from the table to take a seat. Great! We had a corner to ourselves. The Pro is the service was phenomenal. I cannot complain; not at all. We ordered just waters since we're not heavy drinkers anymore & the wait staff ensured our glasses were always full. Our waitress was attentive and delivered everything we ordered perfectly. The Con is the food. It was off putting to me for the restaurant to be so busy; birthday party, families with children, date nights & the chips and salsa served to start had... stale chips? We had 2 servings and they weren't all stale but some were so maybe they pre-made the basket and this one came from the bottom of the stack? Idk. The salsa is odd like a duck sauce, mango salsa? It was sour sometimes & I questioned what it was made of the entire time. I was hungry so I ate it. We ordered the calamari as a starter. It was rubber. Chewy. Frozen Rings. I was hungry so I ate it. The sauce on the side has no flavor. It was not a red sauce. My bf had the Arroz com Pollo! It had chorizo in it which he did NOT enjoy & he said the chicken had no flavor, it was all bland. He said, "This is great for dog food!" as we packed it to go. I had the Cerdo Empanizado. No complain on the pork loin but the pinto beans were a horror. I had to smell them each time as I ate them like what the hell was wrong with these beans. At first I'm thinking "Oh I know! They're beans from a can." I smell them. "Oh I know! Good old Don Quixote! I've been coming here for years and never leave disappointed. The sangria is delicious and the food is always comforting and consistent. A friend and I went there for an early dinner this past Thursday. The place was practically empty when we arrived but filled up rather quickly. Very nice dinning area with a good side bar area, outside dinning is also available We were seated and given menus and a basket of warm chips and salsa was put on the table immediately, nice to get something to pick on while looking at the menu. We ordered a 1/2 pitcher of margarita's which while good were not in any way remarkable though it is nice to have the option of the 1/2 pitcher. We got an order of guacamole, which is served in a bowl made out tortilla chips. I'm not a huge fan of guac but this was very fresh and good. My friend who loves avocados and guac loved it. We also ordered the chorizos Sancho which was excellent & highly recommended. My only 'complaint' is it's not served with enough bread for dipping in the delicious sauce. Not a couple minutes after serving our appetizers my friends dinner entree, the chimichanga's was served. Not only was there not enough room on the table but why would they rush out her dinner, we had barely enough time to try the apps. Not only that but they just brought her dinner not mine, which I was grateful for but still... We had to have them take away some of the items on the table as there was literally no room. The chimichanga's were served with rice and black beans, my friend ordered one chicken and one beef and she said both were very good. I ordered the Paella Valenciana without mussels. It's served in a cast iron skillet and piled high, more than enough for two, maybe three people. Now I admit we over ordered so we took home most of our dinners and about half the guac & chorizos. What a great spot we found tonight. We ate outside w Latin music and we didn't need to wait for a seat. On the south side of the building there was no wind. The host lit an outdoor heater to warm my husbands back. The night started w mojitos and margaritas both oversized drinks. The appetizer of guacamole was freshly made and outstanding. We celebrated my friends birthday at this cozy restaurant . They were able to seat us, even though we did not have a reservation in a very busy Friday night. Our server was so gracious and welcoming. The food was outstanding, and they did not rush us in the least. We all had a wonderful time, especially the birthday girl . Very good food, but probably the most expensive Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to. Will only one or two drinks, your cost per person will be minimum of about $75, and that was without an appetizer or dessert, just coffee! It's probably been about 6 years since hubbie and I have been to this restaurant. I forgot how much we enjoyed it. We usually go to Don Quiote in Patchogue but since we were driving by we stopped in. We were immediately greeted by the hostess. We sat at the bar and warmly welcomed by the lovely bartender. Water and warm chips were served to us within 2 minutes . Great job! Bar is small but has a warm comfortable feel to it. My opinion is because of the awesome staff. Drinks were amazing! We ordered the chicken wings and chicken fajitas which were done to perfection. A complementary salad comes with the meal and we didn't have to ask for it. Appreciate that! I wish you were a little closer to my home because I definitely prefer this location. This place is a hidden gem in Miller Place. My wife had her Christmas party here a few weeks ago and it is DA BOMB! The food is really good but more importantly, the drinks. I knocked down three Margaritas on the rocks (which are outstanding) while I was there at the party as well as drinking homemade Sangria. My go to dish at Don Quijote is steak with rice and beans and the amazing stuff plantains. Don Quijote's also makes a great home made empanadas. This is just a fun spot. The owner is a sweetheart of a guy and the staff is always smiling (might be from the Sangria??) Have eaten here many times and it keeps getting worse. By far last night's service and food made me not want to come back. It took over an hour for the food to come out and they were not busy. My husband's food was cold and they forgot our appetizers. They even charged us for one extra soda before the bill came after all the screwups! $200 later, left aggravated and extremely upset. The person answering the phone said yes, they can do curbside. I will admit I am Covid cautious. They could not understand me and after 5 minutes they finally read the order back to me correctly. They would not take my cc and told me they did not have curbside pickup, but, a large sign was in the window that said curbside pickup! Mexican and Latin I had the good fortune to hit this place with some friends for a night out and wow- I was totally impressed by both the vibe of the place and the food. The menu is impressive - mostly Mexican but with Latin items tossed in there -I was thrilled to see mofongo and couldn't wait to get that- ordered as an app. In fact the menu was so extensive, I had to go back and forth a few times on deciding on the final dish because I kept finding things I overlooked the first time through. We all ordered different things so we could share and they even brought out dinner sized salads which was unexpected - not a typical thing in a Latin place, The table next to us was having a fun time and ordered a pile of shots - too many apparently so they handed some over to us as well - aye aye aye... The drinks were all of the margarita variety and were well made and in some large glasses - perfecto. We hit the bar after - mostly to finish off our large cocktails and headed out - the bill was reasonable and we all had leftovers and a great time.
