I ordered sushi at the restaurant and immediately noticed that it had a very strong, unpleasant odor. After tasting it, the fish tasted rancid and unsafe to eat. I informed the waitress about the issue, and she spoke with the man preparing the sushi. He then came to my table visibly angry, raised his voice at me, picked up the sushi with his bare hands, pulled it apart directly in front of me, and repeatedly insisted that it was "totally fine." During this interaction, he handled the food aggressively and put it very close to my face. He also refused to take the dish back. At that point, even if I had wanted to continue eating it, I could not because it had been handled with his bare hands after the complaint. This recipe calls for crispy tofu with green onion, green & red chili peppers/bell peppers, dry long red chili, carrots, and the usual ginger and garlic. What was served was soft tofu with miniature peas and carrots and a brown sauce with a reddish tinge (probably chili oil.) Really? I make better at home. Been coming here since I was kid. I see everyone complaining about the oil in all of these American based "Chinese" dishes -- quite literally the whole point. That's how most Chinese food in the US is. However, if you try their fresh sushi bar, you don't have that issue. I've loved everything I've gotten from the sushi bar, even as of recently. Not pricy and good quality (not frozen or chewy). The service is great too. They're very attentive and kind. The few that don't speak great English really make sure that your order is as expected/correct, which is what you want in a server!! The Yelp! Elites are few and far between here which should have been the first sign. The fact that most of the decent reviews are really old and that there are so few good reviews that were recent should have been the other. But when someone starts off raving about how good the crab rangoons are, you know what you are about to get. WTF is a crab rangoon anyway? Yes I've eaten them and there's NOTHING Chinese about them. I've always wondered if I started a restaurant called 'All things Rangoon' how successful would it be? You could have breakfast rangoons with eggs and bacon, sausage, or chorizo. You could have dessert chocolate rangoons or how about a Cajun rangoon with crawfish in it? Don't forget the Maine Rangoons with lobster in them. The possibilities are endless. But I digress. Also with a name like Taipei and Tokyo I got a little excited that there would be some really tasty dishes. But in reality the name means nothing because there wasn't one dish on the Taipei side one would ever find in Taipei. It's the same Americanized garbage you find in nearly every Chinese restaurant in America. Thus, to attract more customers than what the crappy Chinese options would bring, they have to dabble in Sushi and therefore they do neither well. Positives: Fast and the order was correct. Negatives: Pricey. Food was meh. Ordered chicken fried rice which was largely flavorless and absent any egg. Scattered peas and carrots mixed in with a couple chunks of chicken added for effect. Had the Szechuan beef which should be renamed Shredded celery and carrots with scattered fragments of beef in brown sauce. Nothing Szechuan about it. Had the Ma la shrimp and scallop. Oh dear... do us a favor and just remove the Ma la from the name and it would be more accurate. 5 shrimp and 2 scallops. Same sad brown sauce the beef was cooked in. Also tried the Tokyo side of the menu, nigiri: salmon, tuna, yellow tail, sushi, California, spicy tuna, alligator and rainbow rolls. Have to say I would have been better off buying the ready made stuff from the grocery store because it would have been about as good and way less expensive. Wholly unexciting, lackluster, and mediocre at best. read more

Haven't eaten here in a year or so and I remember it being very good. My recent visit today wasn't good. I got the sesame chicken with pork fried rice and crab Rangoon. The sesame chicken was over cooked and the sauce was sticky and stringy. The rice was tasteless. Crab Rangoons were small. The soup was good though. Won't be coming back soon. read more

Possibly the worst Asian food I have ever had. Bland, over cooked, would not recommend even for rice.

This is the ONLY place I go for Chinese in Manchester/Bedford. Fast friendly service, and the service is the best. I've been coming here for 10+ years. Everything on the menu is good, but the twice sautéed pork is my favorite. They will adjust for your preferred spice level, so don't be afraid to ask. I always ask that they prepare my food extra extra spicy and they accommodate. It's delicious. Their prices are very reasonable too. I love this place. read more

I'd been here a few months ago. It was ok. I decided we'd have lunch - take out. It was awful. 1st the beef with broccoli. Unidentifiable as far as the beef. Ate the brown rice & broccoli. Threw the beef out. The sesame chicken was some dried out substance. Again!, inedible. Threw that out. To add insult to this, as I was leaving with our lunch, looked into the kitchen & there was a waiter smoking a cigarette!! I don't think that's sanitary never mind legal. I ordered the Seafood Supreme and it was awful. It came with this mystery meat on a bone. I didn't know what it was. Also when I walked into the restaurant it had an odor. Taipai & Tokyo serves Chinese and Japanese cuisine. My friend and I stopped here for Wednesday night dinner. The place was deserted. The waiter brought us some tea and some crunchy Asian crackers and we leaned toward the Japanese side of the menu. My friend ordered an assortment of sushi and sashimi. I ordered a dinner box combination (chicken teriyaki, shrimp tempura, gyoza, shumai) with a small salad and miso soup. The salad was okay and the miso soup was decent. My dinner box was actually good. The tempura was crispy dipping into the special sauce, the teriyaki and the dumplings were tasty. My friend's sashimi and sushi rolls were okay (had better). For dessert, we both ordered Ginger Ice Cream. I found a surprise in mine, a long black hair in the hard ice cream. Yuck!! I informed the waiter and he thinks it was the ice cream company??? He offered me a different ice cream flavor since the bill was already paid. I reluctantly took some Green Tea Ice Cream to go (I checked it before we left). read more

My husband loves their sushi so for his birthday, I surprised him with his favorite. I was out and about so looked up their menu on their website and when I got there, they were charging me more. I showed them their website prices and they just laughed and charged me the increased price. I explained that I was paying their advertised price and no more. The manager came over and said that those prices were 10 years old! Seriously? Sounds like a management problem to me. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid, i used to come here almost every week with my mom to get the lunch special. And I've never gotten sick of it. The food is always brought out insanely fast, the food is cooked fresh (sometimes when you come in you'll see the owners cutting up fresh veggies on the tables), and the sushi bar is incredible. I moved to LA a few years back now and I still come back here every time I visit for the hot and sour soup, because I just can't find any soup as perfect as this one. Love!!! read more

Service was extremely fast - we must have had food within 10 minutes of sitting down. I'm struggling between giving this restaurant a 2 or a 3. But I'm going to rate it on this specific experience and go with the 2. I've had good experiences in the past before I had moved to CA. When I moved back, either my expectations have changed because I've had really great Japanese food in CA, the food quality has significantly degraded, or I got them at a bad time. I'll preface this by saying that I'll probably come back at some point to see if I do have another good meal here because I used to eat here all the time and was satisfied. My aunt and I ordered a Japanese lunch special box with Chicken Teriyaki, White Rice, Salad, a Gyoza and California roll. The portion was pretty large, can't complain about that. A lot for the money (I think it was around $7 or $8) The food was mediocre. Horrible California roll, but I've yet to find decent sushi in NH so I didn't expect it to me great. The Gyoza was very dry and hard around the edges. The salad has a soy based dressing on it which was fine but I was really hoping for a good ginger dressing....and finally the chicken teriyaki was very dry. I was really disappointed. read more

My only gripe with Taipei & Tokyo is that its a small restaurant. Which is normally very busy and crowded. They have been in the same location for years and should probably consider upgrading to a larger establishment. Their growing in popularity and need more room to accommodate patrons. The food is delicious and the hot and sour soup is to die for! The quality of the food is absolutely why this restaurant is so popular. We highly recommend trying this restaurant. Until this restaurant decides to finally upgrade their location to something larger, I'd recommend takeout. Otherwise you will be waiting forever or crammed into corner seats. read more

Strangest experience. My daughter and I ordered the Chirashi dish from the menu. I first took a bite from the white fish which seemed to be a little frozen but I thought possibly from having been on ice prior to being served. I then could not bite through the tuna piece. My daughter's tuna was the same. We asked the waitress to replace our meals. The sushi chef came to our table with a large piece of tuna in his hand. Asked me if something was wrong with my teeth and proceeded to tell me this was fine fish. He said he would not take the price of our meals of the bill because it was too expensive. They eventually took the meals off our bill and did not charge us for the lo menu we ordered to replace it. He sent one of his "best customers" to explain to us what this special cut of tuna should be like. read more

One of our favorite places to eat in Manchester. Whenever we dine in we get the steamed vegetable dumplings, they are amazing! Worth the extra wait (about 20 min- they always warn you that it'll be a little more of a wait but it never takes that long). Great service and great food! read more

The food is delicious. The menu is big with Chinese and Japanese options. The won ton soup was flavorful as was the egg drop soup. The shrimp was fresh and the sauce was delicious. The beef was tender and the broccoli was cooked perfectly! We will be back for sure! read more

I own a small business, and I take myself out to lunch each time I book a new client. This means I will go out to lunch alone, and that's how I came to be dining alone at Taipei & Tokyo in Bedford. It was actually my solitary status that was the only negative of my dining experience here. The waiter and host weren't quite sure what to do with a single woman, and sat me in the center of the main dining area, in easily the worst spot in the place. I asked to be moved and they were accomodating, and the rest of my visit was great. My food was delicious: I had hot & sour soup, their awesome wontons with spicy sesame sauce (HIGHLY recommend), and chicken with garlic sauce. Everything was delicious, and with the lunch special prices, it was affordable, too. I was very pleased with my experience and will return in the future, especially to get more wontons (yum!). read more

In the bag were just our 4 items, no duck sauce, mustard, wontons, or fortune cookies. Very surprised because other restaurants provide these misc items. The food itself was cold and just mediocre. It was like it was sitting around for hours waiting for an order. We ate half then trashed the rest. Complete waste of money. Now we know why we haven't eaten at this Chinese restaurant in years. I was on such a good streak, finding all these diamonds in the rough restaurants in strip malls around the area......... this place is definitely NOT one. My friend kept saying how great the food was here, so we tried it. I was hopeful. Didn't want to be rude and complain throughout dinner so I saved my tidbits for Yelp. OVERPRICED for their quality of food. My friend's udon noodles looked like they were swimming in grease and oil, my "special" expensive Crazy roll, supposed to be shrimp tempura with tuna and avocado (sounds pretty good right?) came out... well picture: 3 small pieces of shrimp tempura wrapped up in a roll and 3 pieces of tuna avocado roll. What the F??? They basically made two rolls and gave me half of each.. charging DOUBLE. I complained and asked if this was right and the waiter took it back, came back with the most sorry looking roll with the ingredients inside. I didnt know what to say except smile and "Thank You" and told myself NEVER AGAIN. read more

Taipei and Tokyo continues to be the busiest Asian restaurant in the Bedford vicinity. As an update to a previous review, the food continues to be of good to excellent quality for the price. The issue is that the restaurant has not been updated in over 12 years. It is time for some cosmetic updating. The carpeting is worn and dirty. Plates and silverware are past their prime. My recommendation is that they close their doors for two weeks next summer and give themselves a much needed facelift. Nearby, Chen's Garden is providing a much better ambiance although I prefer the food at Taipei and Tokyo. read more
