I've been here numerous times but the last two times I've been here have been very disappointing. Today, I tried one of the special off-the-menu items...fried crab sticks. As soon as I tasted it, I suspected it wasn't real crab meat. There is a distinct smell with imitation crab and it's often used because it's cheaper. This crab also was rubbery and had thin lines in it. I asked the server if they used imitation crab and she said no, but I have a hard time believing that. The smell was so disagreeable that it ruined the rest of the meal, which was cold. This will probably be the last time I come here because there are too many other Asian and Thai restaurants arhat serve better food. read more

Wow. Where to begin. Ordered Kung Pao white meat chicken with steamed rice, hot and spicy. The chicken is dry and stringy. The dish has absolutely no spice at all!! I threw half of it away. The hour and sour soup is very good. The egg roll was average or below. That takes care of the food. The delivery was 35 minutes past the promised time. Thus, the food was cold. There was no way to track the driver, and when I called the restaurant they had no idea Bottom line is that I will not be ordering again. read more

Does a restaurant in a strip mall make it any less enjoyable... Absolutely not because being located in a strip mall has it's advantages like having a ton of parking always available. Once you walk in and see the nicely appointed dining room you instantly forget you're in a strip mall. The menu has lots of great choices with some very good specials for lunch. Very, very disappointing. I got the General Tso' chicken and was hoping to have the chicken crispy as described in the menu: fried until crisp. It came out mushy as though it had been sitting in sauce all day. For me, it's the crispness that makes the General Tso's worth while. I used to love this place....pre Covid.. Overpriced, ketchup based sauces that gave me severe food poisoning. The food poisoning I received from this place was so severe that I'm still trying to get my body back to 'normal' 3 MONTHS later. Judging from the store front, Taiwan 101 doesn't look like much. That's at least what I thought the last couple of years and the reason I hadn't tried them prior. But a neighbor raved about the food, so we decided to give them a go and were not disappointed. The menu has pretty much exactly what all other Chinese restaurants offer, but there are a few Taiwanese and Japanese hibachi options as well. I started with the pan fried dumplings (cause I am a nut for dumplings!). They had a really good crunch to them but were a little bland. I then got the Singapore Rice Noodles with chicken, shrimp and pork. Really good. The aroma was awesome and they tasted great! My wife had the Walnut Chicken with white rice and it was also very good. A lot of the chicken at Asian restaurants around here seem really chewy, but this was really tender and delicious. The sauce was also very addicting? Will definitely be back to eat in or take out. So glad we were given the vote of confidence by a friend or else we might never have tried Taiwan 101. read more

I don't know what happened to this place. It used to be to be my favorite Chinese food in the area. But now it has gone way down hill. The general tsos chicken was mushy like they buy frozen chicken from supermarket toss in some sauce that was more tomato based than it used to be to be and the call it general tsos. I have been searching for a properly prepared General Tso Chicken in the Beaver area since we moved here. After ordering from Taiwan 101, sadly, I will have to keep looking. While they have come the closest to the right combination of sweet, tart and spicy with the sauce, the sauce seemed more of a superficial coating...not marinated into the chicken as usual. Broccoli is also customary and there was none included. Dinner portion size was only average and the rice portion was rather small. Disappointment at a premium price. **UPDATE** Much better the second day after the chicken breading had a chance to absorb the sauce. One star was added for those who have the patience to save your order for the second day. Back to small rice portions, every Chinese takeout I have ever had in this lifetime has included the familiar small cardboard rice container *packed* with rice. In this case, both fried and white just barely reached the top of their respective containers. No big deal, right? It's just a few cents worth of rice, right? No. Repeat business is about exceeding expectations based on what is customary in your market segment, not just barely meeting them. A few cents of rice is trivial, but it did cost them a mulligan on the General Tso's and a possible future visit to try something else. read more

I have eaten at Taiwan 101 for the first time since it's been under new ownership and I was impressed. The new decor is lovely and the restaurant is very clean. I ordered Chicken with Broccoli and WonTon soup. My husband ordered Capital Chicken and Hot and Sour soup. The food was hot and delicious and the service was great! This place used to be a 5 star all day. Now it's just as bad as any other place in beaver county that's not being properly managed. Staff is slow and lazy and don't seem to care you're a customer trying to give them business. We used to go here at least twice a week, now they've raised their prices cut their portions and cut their customer service. read more

The. Best. Chinese. I think I must be very picky about my Chinese food, it's almost always just "meh" for me. Taiwan 101 is absolutely different. The orange chicken is truly outstanding. I can tell the recipes are a lot more complex than average, and the sauces are not overly sweet. Can't say enough good things! read more

I've been visiting Taiwan 101 since shortly after their grand opening. It's never hard to make the decision to go here, because in all my travels to this easily missed gem I've never once been disappointed. However, it was a little harder to coax my Polish Princess into this restaurant. Fortunately after a couple months of determination on my part, she finally broke down and made the drive out with me. I knew this dinner would be among the best I had had here; victory always makes food better. The service at Taiwan 101 is always good (except for one time a waiter refused to get me a drink because they were closing in a little over ten minutes) and they are helpful with the menu if you're uncertain as to what exactly you want to eat - which I'm normally guilty of. I'm typically a creature of habit, finding something I like at a restaurant and sticking with it with it, but I've somehow managed to never order the same food twice here and never regretted it. Their menu has some Thai and Japanese, but it is mostly Chinese. On this visit, I got the capital chicken with come of their egg drop soup to keep me busy while I waited. Their egg drop soup is great and is on another level from other restaurants in the area. Sorry, House of Chen. The capital chicken was probably the best meal I've ordered here. A close contender would be their treasure rice wraps. Their most popular dish is the amazing chicken. While it is indeed amazing, I'd only recommend it if you're looking for a sweet dinner. read more

I always eat lunch here when working in the area. The service is fast and efficient and the food is good (at a good price). The lunch portion of the Amazing Chicken (my personal fav) with your choice of rice & either soup or an egg roll is $9.50. I'm definitely a fan! We go to Taiwan 101 two or three times a month. We tend to stick to the chicken dishes with either rice of noodles. There's lots of variety on the menu and plenty to choose from depending on your likes. So far no matter how busy they've been the service has been great and the food always comes out piping hot ... no seriously ... like, wait a few minutes to not scald your tongue hot. Kay and I came here for lunch before she reluctantly took me back home. Hey, it hadn't been reviewed yet. I get Chinese takeout so much that I often forget how artful Chinese food can be when plated. Such was the case with my Scallops In Garlic Sauce. My girlfriend's eggroll alone was a beauty to behold, on a rectangular plate yet! Those scallops were quiveringly tender, not to mention flavorsome. The dish included broccoli, something I don't usually get excited about. Give it to me slathered in that garlic sauce, and I might partake more often. My date's shrimp (I forget exactly what she got) was equally plump and delicate...like she is. One thing is certain; the Chinese do seafood up right, better than most of the seafood restaurants 'round here I might add, and our lunch helped reinforce that for me. Your entree comes with soup and rice. I hadn't had Egg Drop soup in a while and upon first sip was reminded of why I always loved this broth of rags. What? That's what the eggs looks like to me. Rags. And I love that. My fried rice was a little tasteless until I added some soy, but it was no huge deal-breaker. The service was exemplary in every regard also. Taiwan 101 is a very swanky yet casual Asian restaurant that's hidden in one of many shopping centers out in that general area. Don't be deterred by all the Taco Bells and McDonalds you'll see. I've eaten here a couple times and just wish they could step-it up a notch. It's just OK. I had Panang Curry last time which had a mild but well flavored sauce but both the fish and the vegetables were a little overcooked. I don't like soggy vegetables. This time I went for the Pad Thai and was REALLY dissapointed. No fresh cilantro or lime and what vegetables were in it were soggy beyond belief. It seemed to have been yesterdays leftover as even the noodles were pretty congealed together. All of this was especially dissapointing as I paid $11 for chicken Pad Thai. I've had much better for less than half the cost! Please step up the freshness Taiwan 101! read more

Just to be clear right off the bat, this is by no means a Thai restaurant, but rather a (Americanized) Chinese restaurant with 3 Thai-inspired dishes. If you're looking for red, green, yellow, or massaman curry, they don't have it. Nor do they have Thai-style spring roles or any number of standard Thai-restaurant menu items. This is in every way, shape, and form a Chinese restaurant. That being said, I've tried all three of their actual Thai dishes. As a whole, I found them to be underwhelming, and the spice level disappointing. I like my Thai food to be a spice level that most people would find unbearable or unpleasant, and asking for my dishes to be made extra spicy meant barely even breaking a sweat. The Kiew Wan had a really good, sweet taste to it but far too much eggplant, which turned it into a kind of mush that led me to pick out the eggplant, wasting a good half the plate. The Panang curry also had a great taste (though not the best by any means) but was fairly watery, so it didn't stick to the veggies very well. Both of these dishes were made with a fairly bizarre (although not necessarily bad) mix of vegetables. The Pad Thai was good overall, although the sauce used was more watery and much much sweeter than Pad Thai normally is, and had a strange yellow color to it. Like YELLOW yellow. Again, it was good but it wasn't Pad Thai. Overall Taiwan 101 is a decent restraurant with a nice classy-ish atmosphere. The food they offer is good tasting and made with good ingredients. Just don't visit it expecting actual Thai food, as the name and marketing suggest. I'll probably be back at some point to get more of the Panang curry, some time when I'm too lazy to drive out to a real/better Thai place. With any luck they'll add more Thai dishes (RED CURRY) in the future, but I'm not holding my breath read more

From the outside it doesn't look like much tucked on the far side of the strip mall by the nearby big-box store, but don't let that fool you. Once inside you'll find a spacious and modern Asian restaurant, very neat and clean and polite waiters (for a change!) Service is very good and attentive, and there seemed to be a variety of Asian dishes to choose and was not limited to strictly Chinese cuisine. I had the Ma-Pa Tofu, a hearty stir fry of soft tofu, chili paste, and mixed vegetables served with a side of rice. Tasty and perfect to warm you up on a rainy day. read more

I am eating Singapore Rice Noodles from Taiwan 101 as I am writing this. I have eaten this dish from many different restaurants and have always been happy with the flavor. Not this time. There is no curry taste AT ALL, and it is greasy and flavorless. Also people have been complaining on Yelp about the Pad Thai. I agree, it is bad. read more
