The only real quality it's got going for them is the limited selection of Taiwanese restaurants in the area. They're the only one close enough to me. Not terrible food, but nothing exciting. Pretty bland on flavors but the service is polite and the bartender is very nice. (I didn't sit at the bar but could see from my table). We ordered Pad Thai, some spicy chicken option (which wasn't the least bit spicy) and some pork egg rolls. All decent just fairly bland. Comfortable atmosphere. The service is so great and the food is never bad, great for family dinners, dates, and a quick bite to eat! Food comes out within 10-15 minutes! Portions are big and very tasty. Firstly, thank you to Laura B. for mentioning the drastic change in the Pad Thai. I thought I was crazy the first time I tasted the new recipe because no one else seemed to realize the difference, the buffoons. I always enjoyed that dish, as well, but haven't ordered it since because of the strange new taste. Luckily, they have plenty of other options that are delicious. The Amazing Chicken certainly lives up to its name, and I order that quite a bit. Its crispy breading and warm, juicy interior is a delight for your tastebuds and the seasoning is spot-on. I'd recommend this for any chicken fan. I'm a spice fiend and find myself often underwhelmed with most Asian restaurants' "spicy" dishes. Taiwain 101 actually delivers on its promise and this has endeared me to them forever. The Hot and Spicy Tender Chicken has a generous kick to it without masking the flavor and the Kung Pao beef is just as good. The vegetables are never soggy or sallow, they are always crisp and flavorful. I agree with my fellow Yelpers that the prices may have risen slightly, but this restaurant gives you such generous portions that I hardly mind the hike at all. It usually takes me a day and a half to finish my meal and, yes, the food is filling, contrary to the popular stereotype. I've eaten at a lot of Asian restaurants and most are good, but Taiwan 101 is definitely a cut above the rest in all facets. Try them out if you haven't yet. Excellent Asian cuisine. The Crab Rangoons are delicious. The egg rolls are never greasy. And the Kiew Wan with shrimp and scallops is the stuff of which dreams are made. The crisp green beans and eggplant are perfectly cooked. And the jalapeños offer just the right amount of heat, paired with the cooling coconut curry. I only suggest that you ask for extra sauce. If you're anything like me, you'll need to take home a good amount. And the extra sauce is needed when you reheat it. Plus, it's just that good. You'll want more. Trust me. read more

Taiwan 101 has is my favorite place for dinner! By far THE BEST Asian cuisine I've ever had. Even better than anything I had while travelling through Asia. Everything has always been cooked to perfection. Large portions, fair prices, excellent staff and a clean, quiet environment makes this the perfect place to either unwind the day or gear up the night. All the appetizers are excellent, but Teriyaki Beef and Crab Rangoon top my list. My goal for 2016 is to try every single item on the menu. Finally, a New Year's resolution I can keep! Edited to add: After scrolling through a string of great reviews, I came across one from last year written by an obviously confused individual by name of Shaun M in Beaver. Two people already voted it "funny" so I went ahead and added a third "funny" in case the review was actually an attempt at parody. If Shaun wasn't joking, I am certain he failed Geography. Otherwise, I'm dying to know what could possibly make anyone think an establishment with the word TAIWAN in its name could be Thai. I could see if the name was "Bangkok Bistro" or something like that. In case anyone else is confused, Taiwan (Republic of China) is an island about 110 miles off the coast of Mainland China. Great food, quick service, nice atmosphere. As others have said, the food here tastes different than what we've had elsewhere (and we've eaten all over the country). The Thai food (pad thai and panang) didn't taste anything like what we've had before, but it was delicious. The chicken and eggplant was also delicious and our granddaughter enjoyed here chicken and corn (baby corn on the cob). This is served family style with the food arriving on platters; you take what you want from each platter. The serving sizes were easily big enough to feed two. Excellent food and great services. There fried rice and chow fun are the best. Wonton soup is fresh. They use big, real chunks of meat. Not the little cubed pieces found in some cheaper take out places. They are a little more than most but you get what you pay for and its worth the extra cash. Favorite Chinese in Pennsylvania. Don't go here thinking you are going to get a $7 dinner entree. This is a sit down restaurant with quality food. Taiwan 101 is the go-to-place to get good food at a reasonable price. First, I would like to say how great this restaurant is and that my boyfriend and I regularly eat here about every other week. The food is what keeps us coming back. They bring out massive portions family style on beautiful white plates. It is meant to be shared, but we tend to just eat the dish we ordered. Normally there is enough food that it cannot be finished in one sitting unless we come in starving. You can get everything here that you could at any Chinese place, but the food is one step up. My boyfriend always orders egg rolls for us, and the sauces are out of this world good. Oddly, however, the dishes I order are rarely ever the same. Even though the menu does not specify what vegetables should come with the dishes I have seen this with, I think there should be some consistency. For instance, I have ordered the Bean Curd Family Style on several occasions, and while always delicious, the vegetables can come in any combination of broccoli, carrots, baby corn, green beans, etc. Also, the tofu is cut different each time, something squares and sometimes triangles. There should be a level of expectation when serving food at a restaurant, but beyond this slight problem I love eating here and would recommend to anyone looking to get delivery or restaurant. I have never used the delivery myself because the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The service is excellent as well. For these reasons, I will continue to keep going back. read more

Rudeness over a bill lost this place a long time customer. This used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant, and my fiancee and I came here quite regularly. Today we had our normal meals, everything was pleasant, we paid and left. In the parking lot as we were getting into our car our waiter ran us down and told us we had been charged incorrectly. I admittedly hadn't really looked closely when signing the receipt and tipped an even 6$, and when my fiancee asked if we had underpaid he told us we had not, but asked us to come inside. When we did, the manager was already voiding our previous bill and asked for my card in order to rerun the transaction. After which he then handed me a bill for 5$ more than I had already paid. I really do not care about the 5$, but the fact that they had the audacity to ask me back inside to pay again because THEY made a mistake to me says they do not care at all about their customers. I can't think of any other restaurant that wouldn't have just eaten the cost, especially given how Taiwan 101's prices arbitrarily double at 3 PM anyway. Even worse, I was also promised the first charge wouldn't be on my bank statement, but that was a lie. Oh, and their ice tea tastes like they mixed powered tea mix in tap water. read more

We order from here every now and then. My father-in-law enjoys Chinese, so if they're here, this is what we get. I used to give them 5 stars, but we've had a few 2 star meals from there every once in a while. Since the new places opened up in downtown Monaca and at the mall though, they've picked it back up.
